No Man's Sky: Foundation Update (v1.1)

SLI broke with the update. Now most of the textures flash like a damn strobe light. Had to shut it down before it gave new a seizure. Guess I'll wait a couple of months for the next update :(

As a Sony published game, it isn't. There has been a few Sony published games with packaging errors, so is nothing out of extraordinary.

The sticker if anything was a way to fix it, since they never do. That it became part of a huge snowball was another thing. :p
Yeah, Driveclub had a spelling mistake on it too. Can't remember what it was, but it was briefly mentioned, then forgotten.

In normal mode, you can go to your corpse and get the items back. I guess that's not possible in survival mode, which is sort of a shame. Fun mechanic to have an objective like that.

Im starting to think that the proper way to enjoy the game aspect of NMS require the same type of fans that like Dark Souls. I mean im enjoying Survival mode despite some real difficult frustration, but the rewarding aspects are very satisfying.

My new freighter.

cool beans. how much did that cost you?

7.5 million. It's only 13 slots - so starting that upgrade path again.
I just warped into this system, and the freighter was under attack. It's the largest ship I've ever seen!
There were no others like it in the area, so after defending it I bought it from the captain.
Ship is huuge... just look at how far away those landing ports are :)

ok, i started this game today and have about 6500 credits. how long did it take you to amass 7.5 million. that amount seems unobtainable to me at the moment.

Older game.
I have 60+ hours on this game. Maxed out 48 ship (through ship farming on a single planet), suit and multi-tool.
Selling the stacked ship materials (when that was possible - I'm not sure if you can do it anymore, but single slot items harvested from downed ship tech could stack to 100.)

Gathered lots of parts that were worth a ton of credits.

It's much easier now that fighting pirates gives you tons of credits (200,000+ average).

As someone that loves Dark Souls and Monster Hunter, I think NMS has some potential to capture some of that, but it's pretty clunky right now.

In normal NMS, I found a couple planets that were very hostile but had nice rewards. It was fun constantly evading drones and setting up optimal trade routes for vortex cubes etc. That's really the only time the game truly shined for me, but that sort of experience seemed rare.

I later upgraded my warp drive to go to different class planets hoping for more of those extremes, but only found more of the same. When the randomness is too strong, everything ends up feeling the same -- if all planets roll the same dice, all the systems feel the same. Big planets and small planets have same gravity, seemingly same dice for everything else too. You had to visit so many dull planets to find something worth exploring -- that's a pretty big flaw for a game built around exploration.

My brief time with survival was just ridiculous. Being stuck near one building because of radiation wasn't too bad and felt pretty neat when I took the risk of trekking out to a new location and barely making it, but the fact that I couldn't keep life support up because there were no resources nearby just ruins it -- at that point, if it's possible at all to survive, it just becomes an exercise in brute force where I die over and over and I don't have time for that. The life support drains whether you're inside or outside, so it's just a time limit -- it doesn't leave you much room to play around it. There's ways to have procedural difficulty that doesn't leave so much of it to random chance that disrespects the players time.

Hmm, so I just hopped into the game, saved a freighter from some pirates and its asking me to land to talk to the freighter captain but its not docking. Is it a bug or am I missing something?

Nice to see a big update, bases are pretty cool from the little I played with it. Unfortunately I think this game does need some kind of functioning multiplayer if they want to keep building on it. Hopefully the come out and start giving use a road map for updates. I might play around with it a few days, but yeah core game play and lack of multiplayer won't have me spending a lot of time in the game.

you need to have a stable supply of upgrades first before you consider getting money in this game.

First get upgrades , second upgrade your exo suit up to the max ,

Third get a decent sized ship 30++slots at least, any less will make the rest tedious.
Then find a planet with rare ressources , sell it at profit in the right system.
Repeat untill you get a sizeable amount of money. Once you get a good loop , exploit it.
You'll need to find a planet to exploit first and to do that you need to be able to move freely so start with the upgrades.
Getting 2.5Million /hours in doable if you have a good farming loop

My ship has a room for every taste.
Radnox, Calium, Murrine and Omegon rooms are VIP only :D

I'm not wealty enough to enter the radnox and omegon rooms :(

thanks for the responses guys. looks like i'm going to be hunting down some pirate scum (normally i'd put on an eyepatch and join in, but i need some ducats) whenever i can pull myself away from titanfall 2. of course, i first need to get my ass off the first planet. heh heh.

Not sure, but you may or may not be aware that launches from outpost platforms don't consume booster fuel. Although if they've reduced the number of buildings on planets, it may be harder to find a landing pad close by.

The patch notes mention some planets with less buildings, but some planets will actually have more. It also says some planets will not have any. So yeah, overall buildings will be less. I guess it will force you to really take advantage of planets with many buildings, especially in survivor mode.

Radiation killed me on my first survival try. Found plenty of thamium, but no zinc or caves unfortunately. Btw, planet I was on was very flat which I hadn't seen much of. Granted, I only made it halfway to my ship, so perhaps there were mountains or large hills elsewhere. The lack of any caves near me did me in quickly. Also, using the laser on carbon and iron gives you much less. The jetpack is laughably short lived and quickly drains life support.

I may just have to restart on normal mode.

It takes a little doing, but you can find systems with a planet that has rare resources that sell for 100%+ in that system. When you do, stay in that system, farm as much of that resource as you can hold, go to the space station and sell it, repeat until boredom makes you blind. You can easily clear 5 million an hour doing this, especially with upgraded slots in your suit and ship. Never spend money on ships (besides freighters now); use beacons on planets to find new ships and always take the ones with an extra slot (sell the resources from breaking down resources in these as well for extra cash). It's grindy but it works.

So you can build bases in normal mode correct? I've read online you need to scan the planet and it'll tell you a base that you can inhabit but I'm not seeing anything on any planet.

Someone else had this problem, but it was just because the freighter's red alert status hadn't ended yet..

To add to this, individual traders have their own specific things they're looking to buy or sell at high rates, so it's worth talking to the different ships you see.

Can you upgrade the capacity of your freighter or do you need to buy a new one with more slots, like ships?

The patch notes say that the freighters have upgradable cargo slots, but I don't know what the mechanism is for that.

yep. all modes include base building. survival is just tough as heck and creative mode just makes resources free and you are invincible so you can build to your heart's desire. trophies are disabled in creative mode.

Try scanning a different planet. You'll see an icon that looks like a house. It will say Inhabitable Building, or something to that effect. Just scan all the planets from space.

I gotta say, this update is really, really neat. If they keep going in this direction, this game will become the game that many people wanted it to be. Man.

Dreamlist-
Huge derelict bases
Underground derelict bases
Derelict ships we can explore

That's not 13 regular slots is it? Or are they bigger freighter style slots?

Yeah I couldn't get anything that way for some reason but I built a signal booster and finding one is an option so I just used that.

Why can some things be stacked in your ship but not your backpack? Like warp cells for example can be stacked in your ship but not the backpack. That's still a bit of a pet peeve for me being a hoarder. Ugh, though I just bought my first freighter so maybe that will help me out. The stacks of iridium and what not I've been lugging around with me are now in the freighters inventory.

And I still wish there was a different section to place suit upgrades in. I wish life support and thermal layers, etc. had it's own section.

Have they made flying in-atmosphere more fun? That weird, seemingly locked to one axis flight model made exploring planets from the sky more chore than fun.

And have they increased how much you can look around your cockpit?

These two things never stopped bugging me for the 40 hours I put into the game.

Not sure what you mean by one-axis flight model... it's the same control scheme as space, so you can roll with L1 and R1. Unfortunately it still has the invisible wall keeping you from flying too low.

Cockpit freelook seems the same, but how much you can look around depends on your ship type.

Nope, it's still 25%, and yeah, it's pretty annoying at this point.

Argg! I was hoping they have changed that, It was pretty annoying to constantly look up for fuel if you wanted to explore a planet without landing pads.

Yeah, by the end, I just landed on outposts and pads; however, i felt that hurt the game as I'd to think twice if i wanted to land near a cave or something worth exploring.

It sort of makes sense that your backpack has (or should have) a far lower capacity than your ship - and in turn your ship to your freighter.

Wait...what?

Not sure if it's a glitch or a change, but it definitely needs iron now.

Also, I restarted the game on normal and my upgrade blueprints are coming in an odd order. I keep getting theta blueprints but so far not the more basic Sigma ones I could really use right now.

Before this update I would always get the upgrade blueprints in pretty much a specific order from sigma, tau, theta, and omega on a few mining tool ones. (restarted game 4 times)

Is it possible to change the camera perspective in game? All gameplay I can see makes it look as if the camera is stuck on the characters kneecaps.
