No Man's Sky: Foundation Update (v1.1)

From reddit, bases appear to have no height limit (gif):

Insane.

So... How do I interact with freighters again? Can I claim the ones I find? Destroy them for the cargo? What are my options here and what are the consequences?

So far everything labeled new was a blueprint I already had. Often I have it even installed.

I'll go with this is a new bug introduced with the patch.
Ah, that's disappointing.

height limit is limited by build limit in an easily editable file, no? which you can find details of on reddit because i am lazy

All freighters you can dock at are for sale. They start at 7 million+ Units for the cheapest model. You can fight freighters and shoot out the cargo to steal it, but remember... some freighters have big guns and a swarm of interceptors. Don't fight those freighters.

You can also join in and defend freighters that are under attack, after which the captain of the ship invites you on board for free stuff as a reward. If your ship is combat capable, it's definitely worth it to try and save freighters under attack now. Especially those with big guns and a swarm of interceptors. You just have to hit the enemy fighters once and you get a reward.

Thank you!

so if I got this again

Should I get this on PC or my PS4? I dunno if my PC could run it well..(I can run Overwatch on High for example, with 60fps..) and I heard it wasn't that stable on PC ._.;

One advantage to the PC version is you have mods available. PS4 people like me are stuck with the vanilla version. I can't speak to the stability on PC though. It's probably more stable than it used to be at launch, though the patch may have added some bugs.

10 Cool Player Bases From No Man's Sky's Update
http://kotaku.com/10-cool-player-bases-from-no-mans-skys-update-1789482294

Some awesome stuff.

It's a really cool feature and after watching streams and looking at everything I still feel like the game lacks purpose. You build a house and sit in it alone.

..So it really needs multiplayer, for starters. I didn't think it was going to be that kind of game, but now that they've gone the direction of customization and building and setting roots and having a home it's starting to seem like a more natural path.

I also want to see more risk and reward. They've taken some steps in the right direction in the patch but I want there to be more real goals and more opportunities to do something difficult and get something good for it.

Hrmmmm

I would get it on PS4 but I've heard of cool PC mods(Like the 'make huge trees' mod...)..

Not modded/ini-edited?

Seems weird that it's much more restricted on PS4 and even on PC you would think they limit it at least until the atmosphere due to all kinds of possible glitches etc

It's modded. Of course that also means that technically with enough ressources you might be able to link two planets/moons together if the horizontal limit dissapears.

Not everyone needs multiplayer. The main purpose of the base seems to be to provide greater storage, an ongoing revenue source, and allow interaction with traders in a convenient area. And of course for people that just like to build stuff. I don't see why you need to add co-op multiplayer to make base building an enjoyable feature. It just adds to and refines the current gameplay loop.

Yeah, the Make Trees Big Again mod is pretty cool, though I remember people saying it had framerate issues. I'd probably play it on PC if they supported the Mac, though it is nice to just chill on the couch with a controller.

I mentioned this in the OT, but when pirates attacked me post-update, suddenly the NPC Korvax ships around me started attacking them. I've been in plenty of pirate fights with this game, but I'd never seen NPCs help me out before.

If this is indeed a new feature in the update, then it would be a small start towards fleshing out the Faction system into something that's actually significant and meaningful.

I have been helped by alien allies against pirates before the patch, although it only happened twice in my many hours of playing. Both times by Vykeen Ships who happened to be nearby when I was fighting.

For starters, the existence of homebases starts to put additional stress on the idea that players are sharing a real place -- a universe. Two people occupying the same space is rare, sure, but chances of seeing a house seem even higher because most players will have one and they are stationary. It seems like you'd see someone's base once in a while in your travels, and not only does the absence of this hurt immersion, but the inclusion of it would be really neat. Maybe folks could set up vendors in their base that other players could trade with.

I'm not expecting multiplayer to ever be added to the game, but then I wasn't expecting base building to ever be added either. :\

honestly multiplayer is 'low' on my list of wanted features

if they focus on everything, I hope it's fortifying the underlying systems(Asset generation, creature generation, adding more content IE quests and creation stuff within the game)

oh boy, haters will not be pleased....

This is counterintuitive and you guys don't get to complain about this sort of discussion in your threads when you place bait for it.

I've been called a hater/troll/etc for being critical of the game in past months, but I don't root for things to fail just because I don't like them. If they improve the game and take a step in the right direction then it seems natural that they'd get a boost in sales. It'll probably never become what it was pitched as, but if updates improve it enough and give it enough purpose I might get the game again -- Especially if they add MP like they claimed it would have over and over and over.

Right now I would happy if they would add aluminium back to the game. /s

Can't find any anywhere, not even on planets where "Aluminium" is listed after scanning. Is it a bug, or just incredibly rare now?

Edit: Found some! On a planet with aluminium listed too. So it might just be rarer now.

Tried to play last night. Remembered why I quit...

Trying to get it in my head that I need to look up different things now for life support etc.

The base building is quite restrictive but its good to see changes being implemented

This game needs some kind of diary. I want to bookmark planets with ressource info (ridogen im looking at you). Then you can select an Entry and it calculates the route for you.

Damn, I hope it's not bugged out since Aluminum is needed for a fair amount of upgrades. Including one of the Warp Drive upgrades. Emeril seems to be in caves now and not giant pillars. Although Gold still seems to be the pillars. Is Copper still floating balls?

Locking Titanium and Chrysonite behind base building is a curious decision as well. Both of those are needed often, and it kind of sucks that the game is trying to get you to build a base. Titanium is also used in some basic Sigma upgrades.

But what do you DO in No Man's Sky?

Wasn't Alu always findable in asteroids?

The game is still directionless at a high level, but this is true of countless very successful games. Not every game has to be like that. Minecraft, for one. I love Minecraft but once I hit about 5 hours in any given world I end up sitting there just surviving. The same goes even with friends. Multiplayer doesn't necessarily always help this.

The crux is that if you aren't satisfied with just adventuring for its own sake or just making stuff for its own sake then it's not for you.

Also Survival mode adds a pretty huge amount of risk/reward. The problem is it's still tied to the mining grind. But it's nice that you lose everything if you're not careful. I've had some really clutch blood-pumping moments while almost dead and finding a cave at the last moment. Then it adds an actual horror aspect in that a small, simple creature can kill you, so you sort of tiptoe around in caves a lot more. Adds a ton to the experience.

I believe people were calling you a troll/hate for doing nothing but yelling at anyone who had anything positive to say about the game with: "Get over it, the game is dead." "No more updates, get used to it." I'm paraphrasing but I'm sure you remember as it was you who made those comments. And after weeks of that we get a huge update.

Anyway, I really enjoyed the vanilla game but have to admit I'm very pleased with all of the updates.

I definitely hope the galactic map is updated next time. It looks really good but needs some tinkering with.
- I'd like to be able to colour-code systems I've been to.
- I'd like to be able to see the names of the planets and what resources are on them from the GM.
- I'd like to have an "area of influence" - or at least change the colour of space on the GM to show my "empire", or at least be able to see where I've been easier. See below:

solar+farm+post.png

- You can press a button to go "home" but at the moment that simply goes back to the planet you're on. There should be another button which will zoom you all the way back to your base.

Aren't the planets only "level" and not "physically" in the universe? The landing and starting sequence load the planets surface. Universe and planets are strictly separate.

A couple things I discovered tonight:

- If you have a base and go to a different star system, that system gets added to a list of stations you can teleport to. Effectively a fast travel system. Does anyone know the limit of systems, or if there is one?

- You can fire your weapon inside an NPC freighter. Has anyone tried to kill the crew?

I believe it's 4. And no I haven't tried, not sure you can fire?

I think the station's teleporter gets added only if you use it, but I might be wrong. I've read that the limit is four shortcuts at a time, but I've only ever seen two so far in my game.

And yeah, I noticed you can shoot inside freighters but you can't hurt anyone, nothing happens.

Anyone else have a bug that means you're stranded at a station? Ship has fuel for hyperdrive, proton drive and launch thrusters but it won't let me take off.

I use the quick menu to try and recharge but it says no fuel in inventory.

Fired this up after 2 months and I'm totally stranded... =/

Make sure you hold down the launch button. I made the mistake of letting go too quickly and I thought I was stranded inside a freighter.
