This would be so cheap even for Capcom.
So it's probably true.
The only explanation on why Capcom is doing this is because they want to distance this game from the Street Fighter brand as much as possible. Bringing back old and beloved characters would only hurt the franchise and its universe even more.
They've publicly said time and time again that they're in it for the long haul, even the CEO of Capcom said so. And Ono specifically said that the game has support planned until 2020.Sorry I'm still salty as fuck.
Also, no way this game gets support until 2020. Expect it to be discontinued way before of that.

Gotta ask though, why do you hate this game so much?
How is adding new characters going to hurt the game in any way? Some would argue that it's a good thing, adding completely new characters with new playstyles means that roster will be different from previous Street Fighters.I bought the game day one.
I even bought the season pass and some costumes.
I play it almost every day with friends.
I want this game to be good, that's why I can't defend the shit Capcom is trying to pull. A lot of people I know (long time SF players) already dropped the game after the shitty launch and the rootkit fiasco.

Nah, the game will still be played. I'm sure Season 3 will be a return to classic characters.Sorry I'm still salty as fuck.

Because a lot of people was expecting to see their mains from previous games (Sakura). I don't see newcomers as a bad thing, as long as they bring back some classic characters that would bring more variety to the current roster (C. Viper, Rose, Makoto). Also, If that image posted turns to be true, it would show that Capcom is just being cheap.
Maybe?
how is that them being cheap?
He'll likely headline the 2018 season pass. What about Sagat?
I'm pretty sure none of the Dolls will be in season two. I'm so positive that I'd bet on it.Some models are already in the game, even with a moveset. So for Capcom is a "free" character, with almost no cost involved in the development of season 2.

Their wording seems to imply that these 5 characters didn't even exist in the game world before Season 2 so that might even rule out characters that have been in previous stories/cutscenes etc.
Same, have a friend that would jump on after juri, still hasn't.
Cool, saves me money.

I wish people would stop acting like this is the end of SFV. We're getting several more years of new characters. Capcom knows that Akuma, Sagat, and Sakura are their biggest characters left, so they're being spread out over multiple seasons. This whole thing is really a punch in the gut. Why does Akuma return and not Sakura? Do we really need another male shoto?
The game didnt meet its initial sales target, but maybe the DLC (especially costumes) is selling well enough for Capcom to consider the game a success. The CPT DLC bonus pot alone was massive. They probably wouldnt have gone this route with season two if they were in as much trouble as some of us think theyre in.They have to literally sell these characters, after all, and a game that's doing well can afford to take risks like this. A game that isn't? Well, I guess it's good for people like me, but I don't really understand the decision!
I like the spirit of it... for me 3s is the pinnacle of the genre from a conceptual standpoint along with the gameplay, audio/visual elements, etc. If I want to play the likes of Sagat, Sakura, etc that badly I'll pick up any of several dozen fighting games that he's featured in -- and probably be able to play it online. I'll never truly understand the "It's not (insert series) for me if (insert character) isn't in it" stuff. In a fighting game, the more new shit the better for me. New stages, new characters, new combos/mechanics. How many people bitched about Cammy, Vega and Guile not being in Street Fighter Alpha, instead we got some wannabe-Ryu schoolgirl, a wannabe Guile, a fishnet wearing ninja from Final Fight, etc. Lo and behold, SFA was successful and those characters became popular. I'm not saying people don't have a right to feel a certain way, just that I can't sympathize.
With all that said, in the context of SFV this reads to me like a mixed message from Capcom. Season 2 would've been the perfect time to reintroduce characters that were in high demand and sprinkle some new ones in. They have to literally sell these characters, after all, and a game that's doing well can afford to take risks like this. A game that isn't? They just announced 5 remaining characters in Season 2 are going to be completely new to the Street Fighter universe at Capcom Cup.
Credits to Ryce, God's Beard and Sinatar for bringing the news in other thread.

Well there goes my hope of Sakura.
"This is the path. Of my DESTINY!"Jago
Nice, need Sagat, Thawk and Hugo though, but the big guy in that pic looks interesting. They all do tbh....Maybe?
Turtling can only get a franchise so far you need to attackPerfect alternatives for playing your favorite missing SF characters!
If this thread was somehow indicative of sales like so many claim, all any game has to do is include Sagat and Sakura as guest characters to sell millions of extra copies.
I have no emotional attachment or nostalgia to five brand new characters. This seems like yet another enormous misstep in the clusterfuck that is SFV's ongoing development.

The characters you like were once new too.
Interesting that they are choosing this route. The last time they tried something similar to this, the entire fgc nearly died. :/
