FFXV's future updates adjust chapters, add cutscenes, add playable characters, more

I thought that with this admission of what so many people who have beat it realised - that they shipped a completely unfinished game and that chapter 13 is bollocks - people would wake up a bit to the game's issues. The people who continue to defend the game and the state it launched in the light of this announcement are embarassing imo.

But I'm the one who spent 70 euros and 30 hours playing a shite early access open world game and I'll never get the 'proper' experience so I'm the loser here for sure.

Sorry, sorry shit from square.

What the fuck were the reviewers smoking? They really let me down on this one.

Get over yourself.

This is probably just me, but this really feels like "Please don't sell this game when you have finished the story!" type stuff. Which is fine I guess, but odd to see it so blatant outside of the season pass tactic.

Kind of happy someone else bought this one for me. If the PC version is finished and released some day, I'll purchase that one myself. I do dig the game.

THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN THE GAME TO START WITH..

I think this is the main problem with todays fucking games. We should NEVER accept that we are being sold an unfinished product with missing Story. Its a horrible fuck up from SE

The story is all over the place at times.

I think they should've allowed an option for advanced combat controls where we can actually hit buttons for custom combos. Holding down a button is actually pretty weird.

You can do that, though. You press different directions while attacking, and you don't have to hold down the attack button.

The whole "so people can play it a long time" statement makes it sound like they want to turn this into a GTA Online type platform ...

Because they rushed out a project that clearly needed more time in the oven, especially when it comes to its story and presentation of it

No, nobody should thank them for doing the thing they should have done from the get go

Rushed a product that they already delayed for 2 months?

And does all of the complaint about the story and presentation are solely for the chapter 13?

I'm up to chapter 8 and haven't found anything to egregious story wise.

Probably because it makes it sound like se is doing this out of the goodness of the hearts. As if a week of feedback really made them arrive to this conclusion. Like I said before, they likely knew these problems existed. However talking about them would have cost them preorders. Square Enix is a business and Final Fantasy is one of their biggest most recognizable brands. They're going to do everything they can to maximize the sales of this game.

Most of the sales happen in the first week of release, announcing this right now won't really boost sales I think.

Is this patch the same patch for the 1080 60FPS PRO version?
that's the one I'm waiting for, I own the game and I'm still Level 1
but all I've been doing is fishing and playing Justice V

LOL- yeah I walked all the way galvin bay ;P

Tabata butchered Nomura game, took scenes from it, killed characters , eliminated FULL PARTS OF THE GAME to release them in movie format, released a game incomplete , people bitched about it now he will add scenes again and playable characters?

Holy shit you are incompetent and should never be a Final Fantasy director again, tabata will be the next janitor along side toriyama.

I am about at the same point (after 35 hours :P) and so far the game has been pretty great. I guess issues start Ch.9 onward from all reports.

I think as an aside from my perspective the story in Final Fantasy games are universally awful, so this issue matters less to me than some others. When SquareEnix is behind the writing, the less story the better as far as Im concerned ;)

So release an unfinished game, get slammed for it, then add the missing content for free months later? Last time I buy a FF game at launch. Next time I'm waiting until it's $20 and complete. No way I'm going back to replay chapters.

What's really embarrassing is your constant desire to shit on the game and the people who enjoy it.

Your opinion is /not/ gospel. Get over yourself please.

So the main thing is they are adding a reason why some NPC does something in chapter 13?

So keep playing then look up the reason online later on?

Chapter 13 isn't nearly as bad as people are saying it is, but it does over stay its welcome.

chapter 9-14 is just filled with unexplained things that would have made the story way better if we got some sort of explanation.

I'm happy they will at least be giving us something.

I do agree ami, its been shit since FF VII. I kept playing due to the battle system and that its fun to LVL characters, doing side quests and finding hidden op weapons and gear :)

I guess that gives me time to focus on the Last Guardian and Watch Dogs. I've already put in 31 hours into the game and I'm on Chapter 5. Hopefully some of these fixes/changes come out by the end of December.

if running around back and forth doing mmorpg kill quests with time-of-day requirements, with no way to set the time except when you accept the quest, is the 'good' part of the game...

Anyways after it crashed on me and corrupted my save file I'm probably just going to wait for this patch.

Sadly, yep, that's the good part. The first five chapters of the game allow you to explore detailed environments, and provide side quest opportunities. Most of the side quests are poor quality, but thanks to the gameplay mechanics and the environments, they're where most players are getting their enjoyment from in this game.

The final ten chapters, so two thirds of the story, all take place without any environments to explore (though occasionally you'll be free to walk up and down train carriages), just dungeons. The game whisks you around from one rushed plot point to the next, with much of the story taking place off-screen and your characters informed of developments as they get practically teleported along the game. The worst offender imo, which I'll spoiler just in case:
Tenebrae is a fantastic environment of forests and mountains, where Luna and Ravus are from so highly important to the story given it's a kingdom of great power. You step off the train to see a backdrop of the environment in flames after a demon attack. You walk about 100 yards to speak to an NPC who tells you all about what happened, and that Ravus is now on your side and wants to help, and then you get back on the train and continue on to the next location
. It's that bad.

The ending picks up in quality, but everything from Chapter 6 until 14 suddenly starts feeling "weird". Things happen that make very little sense, and seem like the devs had plans for the story beats and events but ended up having to cut them short.

"Guys we listened to your complaints and will address them as soon as we can to make the game as good as we can"

"Lol what a mess, fuck you guys!"

Fan: Pays $60-$270 for the complete game following the original delay meant to get the complete game on the disc. Beats it.

Square: lol wait hold on

Heh. Like I said in the OT, I'll revisit the game when the inevitable Enhanced Edition releases on PC if it's good. We could have another Dark Arisen on our hands.

They should probably have delayed the game another 6+ months, but honor and shame etc.

It isn't to boost sales. Its to keep them from falling off. Once more people start discussing the game and talking about its faults. People can sit here and say that the game is fine as is but clearly some people disagree. And those people that disagree may discuss that opinion online and dissuade others from picking up the game.

People , reeeaaallly want that PC version I see.
;P

Do I play the game I bought and experience the game as is with the chance to return later and play the update? Or wait?

Decisions decisions

Long-term goals
We will make it possible to use important characters that appeared in the main game as playable characters. We will also consider adding an avatar system to create original characters. In addition to this, we will continue to actively update so that various players can enjoy Final Fantasy XV for a long time

Online co-opp? Please, please, please!!!!

The world is certainly big enough to put multiple players on the same server and work together for hunts, etc.

Now that would get me pumped and I'd buy a season pass for...

I agree in the sense that I comprehend why they did not communicate that fact, particularly given the games history. That said, sometimes difficult choices must be made. In the perfect world, they would have delayed the product again or told gamers the product was not in a completed state upon release.

However we are not in a perfect world and they made the decision that best helped their bottom line in the short term. I think that was a mistake, but I understand their thought process here.

Still ultimately they do have a responsibility to fix this mistake. And they seem to be doing so. Im not sure how much their DLC will cost, but they should probably offer episode Prompto for free or something if it isnt already. For ammends.

And this is why I'm not really upset about it. It just is what it is with AAA gaming these days. Most games come out before they're truly finished. Some get patched later like this, others never do like MGSV.

I've just stopped preordering entirely, reading lots of reviews, performance analyses etc. before buying near launch, and mostly waiting a few months until prices are down.

FFXV I was fine getting as it was clear I wasn't going to care much about the story anyway after Kingsglaive and Brotherhood and the combat, dungeons and exploration looked up my alley. That turned out to be the case and I'm loving the game for those reasons and don't care if I finish before these updates. As I said, at most I'll YouTube them, if I even bother with that given how bland I find the story and characters.

That said, I can see how people who finished it already, were more interested in the story and wanted more and don't have the time or interest to replay are upset. This trend of games releasing unfinished and/or broken is lame, but it is what it is and we should all know this before preordering or buying things at launch.

I feel like an idiot for even renting this so soon. Now I guess I should let it sit for a while while they patch it. I'd be furious if I paid actual money for this. Finish your fucking game before release. You only had a fucking decade.

You guys are talking like the game in unplayable at this point, yeah the story is crap but everything else is fun. I don't get this hyperbole.

Because they rushed out a project that clearly needed more time in the oven, especially when it comes to its story and presentation of it

No, nobody should thank them for doing the thing they should have done from the get go

Embarrassing; pointing to the mistakes of MGSV doesn't nullify mistakes of FFXV

My thoughts exactly.

Fucking really? I'm only at Chapter 3 and I've kept in the dark but seriously Squenix, adding and changing story content? Maybe just release the game whole. It'd be one thing if it was DLC. This is so stupid

Adding story content to main storyline months after release says otherwise.

Someone could argue anyways.

It's not early access, it's not a beta. They could have not patched anything and left it as a game with a bad story.

It has the makings of a good game, but it's a mess with some of the most unlikeable main characters in recent memory. Combat that looks flashy but lacks any real depth and fetch quest after fetch quest that maybe has a paragraph (if you're lucky) of set up.

Yet I keep playing it and I couldn't possibly tell you why.

"Guys we listened to your complaints and will address them as soon as we can to make the game as good as we can"

"Lol what a mess, fuck you guys!"
Yeah, no. It's not like that and people should stop trying to paint the situation to be another "whiners gonna whine" kinda thing.

The game is incomplete while they sold it as a complete product. Adding, changing and refining gameplay contents in one thing, but adding completely new and necessary cutscenes (that had to be there in the first place) is another.

People need to wake up. These open world RPGs are all the same. You're always playing the worst version day one. Fallout, Witcher, Elder Scrolls, etc. I can understand the excitement of playing these games day one, but you are beta testing their products for them. If you're not okay with that, then just wait it out.

You know theres a difference between enhancing an experience and completing one right?

.

This game is anything but not complete. Sure things could've been handle better or differently but the game is surely a good game and awesome final fantasy as it is. And they could've left everything as it is if they wanted instead they're going to bring more to you and us for free in the coming months, showing dedication in making the game even better.

And remember: they could've took the money and go away with them. Instead they ll use manwork for next months in delivering more stuff to you and without asking money back. How is that even bad for god's sake?

You guys are talking like the game in unplayable at this point, yeah the story is crap but everything else is fun. I don't get this hyperbole.

Have you played chapters 9-13? There is literally nothing there. They take away all your open world freedom, throw you from point to point, have the large majority of story points happen off screen and be explained in loading screens, and the one dungeon they do have , in Chapter 13, they even have the gall to take away the combat system that is actually fun. It isn't unplayable but it's a complete mess that obviously wasn't finished and/or was cut for DLC. It's pretty sad to see them admit they didn't even finish the cutscenes they wanted in the game.

Yeah I agree on pretty much all points. Only thing I'd add is that if this makes people more hesitant to preorder games, I'd consider it a net positive. I stopped preordering a long time ago, and Ive refused to even buy any more Ubisoft products for these reasons.

You're welcome to that opinion but FFXV barely manages to give us any proper context or set up for why we're doing what we're doing half the time. It's not that the writing in FFXV is bad per say, what little is there is decent. But the game literally feels like a bunch of stitched together set pieces - there's no sense of flow. The game frequently makes these abrupt interrupts to itself between story segments (the first red flag is when Ardyn picks up the crew after Titan and goes "Yo so I'm the chancellor" but the cutscene just ends and the crew get dropped off or something, it's literally bewildering). And then everything else literally happens off screen.

It's just... Not a good look.

Well you are in for a ride. I was the same from 1-9ish (the city looks like low poly shit sometimes, but it was okay) but everything after that killed it for me too much. Fortunately the gameplay is fine and there are enough MMO hunts so that I will get more fun in which is okay in my book. But everything else? Nothing to defend here.

I mean you have to have the guide book just to read what's the point of the things that the endboss does is and more for your main characters backgrounds. It's hilarious in that regard because nobody that will search more online will ever know the story completely because nobody talks about that shit in the game. And these are things which are the whole point of the game.

They've always said they had a linear section by the middle of the game, why are you surprised? Sure, I agree that the story presentation is absolute crap and the story is seriously short and feels like its missing a lot, but the OW section is fantastic and I am on my 85th hour into it and still didn't clear all the dungeons. The only thing they're adding is story content, and judging by how badly it was handled I welcome these additions very much because I actually care about these characters.
