FFXV's future updates adjust chapters, add cutscenes, add playable characters, more

Ummmm... All of this should've shipped with the game

Now I have no motivation to continue playing until everything has been patched in(which it looks like could take months or even a year).

While it wasn't in time for my first playthrough, I'm glad they're committing to improving the game and I'll look forward to the second half story stuff next time.

is there something wrong with me? I thought this game was great minus that one long ass drawn out chapter, it's the type of game i can replay, oddly i went through all of this game and i haven't finished witcher yet, lol.

I dunno I enjoyed everything about it, i'll probably come back to check out the extra stuff later.
There's nothing wrong with you, plenty of people enjoyed this game with all its shortcomings.

I don't think it's such a big deal. This feels like tweaks and additions such as with Final Mix, IZJS, International versions, etc. This was always inevitable with the PC re-release coming soon. It just happens to be more extensive because the game came out much sloppier with the second half and all.

It's just in the form of DLC. Tabata's reasoning for the delay is still sound I think. It came out in a form of a solid performing 83 MC instead of a bug-ridden (hypothetical) 65 MC with the two month delay. All on disc. I have the game, but now I'm thinking whether I should just wait and play Gravity Rush and Uncharted 4 while I wait for the updates.

Seriously, this is like a bad joke. Should have gone with my gut and sat this out until prices fell. I figured, hey, what the hell. Why not buy it at launch for old times' sake? Well, a fool and his money... Maybe this will teach me for good.

I'm happy with this. Honestly this game with a few extra cutscenes explaining a couple of things would be perfect. Maybe a DLC involving the
Empire and some of the generals who were never shown again
(Like
Prompto's father? Though I assume/hope that's in the Prompto DLC
).

Now I have no motivation to continue playing until everything has been patched in(which it looks like could take months or even a year).

The only thing that should have shipped with the game is the Chapter 13 fix (Which is still beatable normally) and "What happened to Ravus scene" (Which isn't even a game changer).

Everything else is FREE content.

Man, I'm only on Chapter 8 or so. I'm really enjoying playing so far (save for the story) and want to keep plowing through.... but all this makes me want to just throw it on the back burner until its all polished up. Sigh.

Weirdly torn on this, post launch support is always welcomed but this feels strange.

Certain things about the game are kind of neat but it simply failed to draw me into its world. If I'm going to play a story driven game that focuses on relationships I need to like, relate to, or care about the characters on screen -- And I just don't. I mostly find my characters obnoxious and find myself rooting against them, and that's never a good thing.

The only real style or charm in the game is when the big guy slicks his hair back mid combo. That's about it. Everyone else is an unrelatable plastic weirdo either staring blankly or over emoting and being an annoying **** (Prompto).

It feels like an MMORPG but without the satisfaction of sharing a world with human players or creating my own avatar to express myself.

Incidentally, you have the ability to equip new clothes but from everything I can tell you virtually never get anything new and are forced to look like a weirdo most if not all of the game.

Good news to me. How mad can I be about new playable characters and content, presumably for free?

It's not gonna be free. They intentionally cut very important scenes and characters to make more money. That's fuckin greed to the maximum.

Back then, this shit wouldn't happen. Especially for a franchise like FF.

My favorite game of all time is FFVII...Now I have no doubt that this modern day Square Enix is gonna fuck that up big time.

To the people claiming they're adding one cutscene, they obviously aren't just adding one cutscene. They said multiple scenes regarding Ravus will be added as an example. Now, I'm not expecting 2+ hours of additional scenes, but I'm guessing it will improve the experience.

I'm disappointed greatly by this game, but I will wait! As painful as it is to wait a little longer. I hope they make significant improvements. I'm at the very beginning of Chapter 5 so I'll just stop here for now.

Good thing my copy is still sealed, at least I will be playing a better game when its all patched out. Maybe I should sell it, and rebuy when it drops to 30 in a few months.

I think as an aside from my perspective the story in Final Fantasy games are universally awful, so this issue matters less to me than some others. When SquareEnix is behind the writing, the less story the better as far as Im concerned ;)

That opinion makes me sad.

I'm in chapter 4. Now I'm considering holding off playing more. Fuck. Are these issues really that big of a deal? Opinions seem to be mixed. Also I wish there was a more concrete timetable for these changes. Does short term mean a month, or like 3?

I've got plenty of other stuff to play right now, but the plot really is full of holes so far.

You don't know what content will be put on dlc, you don't know if it was ready for launch, you don't know how 'important' it is. Yet you claim this saying that back then it would have never happened. No dude, back then it wasn't technically feasible but it didn't stop Squarsoft from releasing international versions or releasing "incomplete" gamed (as people are calling them in this thread) like Chrono Cross, Xenogears and Final Fantasy XII, just to give a few examples.

The overall story is not going to change. It is just going to add some cutscenes about a side character who, ultimately, doesn't affect the outcome of the game at all.

People are blowing this wayyyyy out of proportion.
Well, okay. That should be in the game in the first place, but it's probably not game changing, so I don't worry about it anymore. Still not very happy about it.

But so far I'm enjoying the game and don't feel like a beta tester.

the game is totally playable, and parts of it are enjoyable... but they're big enough of a deal where they're doing this, eh?
the pacing of the game is real bad, the story lacks a solid focus, the plot holes grow larger... adding playable characters legit changes the game completely, so I don't know what to say about that.

I don't see them being able to fix the plot short of a complete overhaul. There's just too many structural problems. People might as well just enjoy what's there (and there is plenty of enjoy. I had my issues with the game but still liked it, overall).

I feel like Mass Effect 3 changes were a far, far, far bigger deal than this, honestly.

Regardless of your feelings on the game, anyone expecting this to make the experience better or worse better check themselves.

Not even one bit. You should be really excited about that as I am.

For having an incomplete story and waiting another 5-6 months to get more custscenes that may or (more likely) may not manage to make it any better though? Yeah, you can be pretty mad.

yeah, this is them just admitting they shipped an unfinished game. very uncool

Not it's not. They are happy with the finished product. They are just adding things that the fan base has requested. They alreAdy had planned more content with DLC anyway. This stuff will be free.

Might as well wait for a year

I welcome the upgrades coming in from based Tabata, The Witcher 3 did similar things with Triss's part of the story and balancing adjustments too like major armor equip changes and such....can't remember the people screaming 'It's a Beta' then.

Free DLC and improving the base game is now seen as horrible dev work...now I've seen everything. They are trying to improve the experience, not destroy what people have already enjoyed IMO.

Game is only going to get better, can't wait :)

The stuff they end up adding story wise us only likely to clear up some smaller things in the grand scheme but people are acting like they're adding a plot to the game.

I was upset last night when I read this but after sleeping on it, I'm going to see how things play out before I get angrier.

I don't have a problem with companies providing post release support to improve a game. The problem I have is the wording, as it is in the OP, makes it sound like Square acknowledging that these things are indeed 'missing' from the release we bought on day one, which is why it rubs many the wrong way.

How would fleshing out the story slightly not make it a better experience? Because you want to downplay any issues this game has? Sorry doesn't work like that. Your whataboutism with ME3 was cute though, the three fars really sold it.

interpret it how you want to, but claiming they are going to be "Updating the production of the second half of the game," is them clearly admitting they rushed it.

That's an awfully positive attitude you have there. D:

In all seriousness, it's not that people are angry about post release updates (well, some might) but that the game was very obviously released in an unfinished state. Like it is at this point, especially the story, it makes not much sense. A product shouldn't ever be released like this. People, including me, have a right to be at least annoyed.

Sooo... I guess I should wait to buy this? I would be annoyed if I got through the game and they just added new content.

Edit: Apparently it's more fixing their rushed game. Sucks that games come out like that. I'll definitely be waiting to play it the way they intended, I guess.

I was planning on waiting to buy this til it was sub 30 and I guess this just cements my decision. Honestly there is almost no point in buying a game day one anymore unless you're mindlessly hyped (happens to me 2-3 times per year most recently with No Man's Sky and up next is Horizon).

I like seeing developers improve their game though. But if I wait 6+ months I can get the game at least 50 per cent off most of the time and it will run better and sometimes have free additional content. Some games might even fundamentally be changed for the better (No Man's Sky).

It's hard to see the incentive to pay full price. I wonder if this will hurt developers in the long run as peoples' habits continue to change, or if the same amount of people will continue to pay full price. If that's the case this could be beneficial for everyone, since improvements like this could give games longer legs while still having the benefits if big day 1 sales. It will be interesting to see.
