This is the case for a huge swath of mobile games but I don't see it as a huge issue really.
much less interested in buying it now..
One of the few times I would want to play a mobile game would be if I were on an airplane with the radios turned off.
Because your phone is connected to the internet 99% of the time.
Don't you have a cellular provider?Considering I mostly mobile game on the bus, this is a solid pass for me then.
Wifi at home or place of business, friends, etc.It is? Thats news to me.
Hmm, I guess I never knew people played mobile games with their cellular data or wifi turned off.
"We wanted to be able to leverage that network connection with all three of the [Super Mario Run] modes to keep all of the modes functioning together and offering the game in a way that keeps the software secure."
the fuck does that even mean?
It means there will be a shitload of microtransactions and don't want people playing it for free.
well that's stupid
rayman jungle run didn't require this
There are no microtransactionsIt means there will be a shitload of microtransactions and don't want people playing it for free.

It's a mobile game, so I kinda expected this.

I only game on my iPod touch, and I certainly wouldn't waste the limited mobile data I have on single player game DRM checks.Don't you have a cellular provider?
Seriously, how many times are people going to have to say this?
There are NO microtransactions
Every mobile game app i have requires constant internet connection
I don't see the big deal here...
Fuck off Nintendo. I play games on mobile when I'm on an airplane. How stupid can you be?
Unless you happen to be in an area that your data doesn't cover, then it's just Mario Stop. Do the people who think this is no big deal live in big, heavily populated cities or something? I don't even live in the middle of nowhere and there's tons of areas where my phone simply won't get coverage and not everywhere has wifi. Very strange move for Nintendo considering their handhelds have generally been "play anywhere" devices.
Maybe they'll be selling characters. Who knows. What I do know, is that there are plenty of games that don't require an Internet connection. And for some reason Nintendo decided to go with an agressive drm.Maybe not in this game but that is exactly what it is for.
Nintendo will either roll it out later or are keeping their options open for future titles.
Do you know what an underground tunnel isI'm really confused by people saying this is a deal-breaker for them because they play mobile games on the bus or train.... Are your buses/trains EMP-shielded so you don't get a signal or something?
Or is this just people playing on tablets and not phones? Doesn't seem like a game that would actually be any better on a tablet and would work better on a phone.
Oh yeah that's more accurate. There's no in app purchases after the full price unlock.
No "crap". One payment and its all yours.
I thought the Toad tickets have to be purchased through My Nintendo with coins or something...?There are no microtransactions or in app purchases of any kind.
Im a mobile game developer. Most of these game require a constant internet connection. Just how it is.
Can't wait to see Mom hand her phone to little Timmy on the 5 hour cross country flight and struggle to figure out why Super Mario won't work...

When was the last time you were on a subway, or just a regular train for that matter?I'm really confused by people saying this is a deal-breaker for them because they play mobile games on the bus or train.... Are your buses/trains EMP-shielded so you don't get a signal or something?

Loads of games don't.
Just how it is.
And some people eat it up. Just look at some of the posts in this thread.Miyamoto makes it sound like they're doing gamers a favor with this decision. pfffft
Unlimited data doesn't cover flights iirc, you need to pay the extra $10 charge ot whatever to the airplane companyIn this specific instance, if Mom is giving little timmy her smart device, she probably has a data plan in place anyhow to placate him anyhow.

I've done data on planes all the time and I never see that sort of additional charge on my bill. That's within the country though. I don't attempt that the moment I'm out.
