Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

Just received a Qanba Q4 3-1 during the week. I'm a PC gamer but have a PS3. Loving it with MAME, MK X and SFV. I picked up SFV for 10euro in GameStop last weekend, bargain of the century.

So did I do OK getting the Qanba? First arcade stick for me, but I wanted something that will last as I'm trying the kid on old arcades like pacman etc.

Didn't realise it would be so huge but I love that, I'm sure theyre all huge, just wasn't expecting so huge

Qanba's are supposed to be good sticks. I just ordered the new Crystal a few minutes ago, so hopefully I get it soon. It's based on the Q2 model with the lights, but I'll be replacing all the parts immediately so I guess no lights for me. The size is the main reason I decided to take a chance on the stick, since my Hori is a bit too small for comfort.

I've just ordered King of Fighters and Xrd for PS4. I havent played a fighter in a very long time but I would like a stick to play them. I dont want to spend much money as its a bit tight at the moment. Can any one recommend something for no more than a £100.

Would this be ok for my basic stick needs?

The Venom Stick is an excellent basic stick. and is easily moddable/upgradeable. Main downsides are that its stock parts are ok at best, it doesn't support XInput, and it doesn't have touchpad input.

Edit: If you want to upgrade the parts, I suggest going to to ArcadeWorldUK and geting an LS-40 with no cable, eight OBSF-30 buttons, and a JST-XH Female-to-Female cable. £29.39 not including VAT and shipping.

Are there any concave low profile buttons out there? Similar to HAPP buttons?

I don't know how low profile these buttons by IL are, but IL was one of the original manufacturers of HAPP parts until HAPP decided to go to China for their manufacturing. IL decided to stay open under a new name.

just wipe over thoroughly with baby wipes and your good to go

So I have a TE2+ and my buttons occasionally stop working. I had this problem before and it turns out that I just needed to push in the harness that all the buttons connect to further into the connector. It's been working fine since then (which was months ago), however it's starting to not register buttons again.

Should I unscrew the little containment that the harness connect to and disconnect and reconnect it? Or will that void my warranty?

I just don't want to pay the $25 to ship the stick to Madcatz's warehouse.

This is the exact issue me and tons of other te2+ owners have had. Those sticks just suck, and I'll never trust mad catz again.

So I need to return the stick?

I would. I paid shipping to get a replacement from them, only to have that one be faulty too. I just stripped the parts and threw the shell in my closet, since I was done working with them at that point. I'd recommend Hori or Qanba instead.

I mean return the stick to Madcatz to fix up. I still have the warranty, but I can't return it for my money back.

Your call. The fact that so many people had that exact issue with the stick made me wary of ever trying to use it, since you never know when it'd crap out on you.

Arcade shock teasing the fighting edge for 2017 on their facebook :).

Hm, how much did the originals go for? I literally just placed on order for the Qanba Crystal, but maybe I should have waited if the stick is around the same price range. Though I'm guessing it'd be $200+ considering the HRAP seems to be their "budget" stick at $150.

OG was 200. I wouldn't be surprised if this one was a bit more as all the other "premium" sticks have seen a 30-50 dollar bump.

It is, by far, my favorite stick ever.

In that case, I'll probably just stick with the Qanba. Been spending too much lately, and I've already got way more sticks than I'll ever need. The Qanba should be exactly what I need as my go to stick once I stick some Sanwa/Seimitsu parts into it.

Any idea where I can pick up a replacement bezel for the TE2?

I picked up an empty TE2 shell to mod but it doesn't come with the bezel unfortunately. Amazon seems sold out and I can't find it anywhere! Seems nuts that it's so hard to find..

Bump for this page, in case anyone has any ideas.

Is MadCatz going out of business or something? I thought the TE2 was one of their premier sticks, weird that it's hard to find parts for it.

I have tried asking this in the shmup thread but never got any help, i'm putting together a shmup machine and i want a decent stick for 100-200€ range but i have no idea where to look since there are so many of them available and so many modifications one could make. Any suggestions? I trust you guys a lot more than a random internet search i would make.

could you elaborate a bit? you're making an arcade and just want the parts or you need a premade console arcade stick?

they are on hard times and it shows. no, you probably won't be able to find any TE2 specific parts for sale anywhere. best you can do is email customer service and see if they have any little bits of stock left.

I tried searching through the thread, couldnt find any info regarding the F300 Mayflash stick on the ps4. Does anyone know if the ps4 controller disconnects after a certain time using the stick?

iirc it requires a ps4 controller to be plugged in at all times to keep its authentication, so it shouldn't have the 8 minute timeout.

Thanks!

I did email them a few days ago but nothing yet. I've heard that they ran out of supply apparently so I'm not too optimistic. I'm surprised there are no 3rd party clones though. I'd imagine it should be easy enough to make with a 3d printer..

If you still have your HRAP2, why not use it with a Brook PS2->PS4 adapter?

I didn't know such a thing existed! Wish I did before I bought the Venom.
Does it work well?

Anyone know where I can get one in the UK?

Edit: I do actually have a PS2 to USB (PS3) converter that looks very similar to the Brook one (I can't remember who it's made by though), but I assumed it wouldn't work with the PS4?

either the wires or a random pcb issue. if the wires aren't broken or falling apart then it'd probably the pcb. those issues can be hard to tell sometimes.

So I assume that I should still send it back to Mad Catz? Or should I wait a few more months til my warrenty almost runs out to see if something else funny happens?

ArcadeworldUK looks to have the Brook PS2-PS4 adapter. Probably no luck with the other adapter, though - PS3 is weirdly friendly in a way that PS4 isn't in that it accepts pretty much anything Windows would recognise as a direct input controller (basically, hella old PC/Mac/Linux controller protocol) as a valid functioning controller, and most these adapters loophole through that. Honestly, chances are your PS3 adapter is just a repurposed PC one - I have adapters I bought before the PS3 was even launched that do the same thing.
