Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

Is there anything wrong with the xarcade tankstick? Also is there drop in happ parts recommended? I really want a 2p stick and prefer American style controls.

So I brought a Hori RAP4 Kai, but one of nubs broke off from the cable compartment door. I was able to talk down the price, but is there anyway to fix this?

Anyone else?

X-Arcade used to be seen as infinitely shitty back in the day, because while the sticks performed well on PC, they used to lag significantly. Not sure if they've fixed that problem all these years later.

My qanba carbon warranty expired so I figured I'd replace it with spare sanwa parts I had lying around

TES and TE2 are the same sticks on the inside. In general MCZ is not worth putting your money in to this generation. Depending on what your want the stick for, the Venom or Hori are better choices for UK folks.

I have a HRAP4 Kai, one of the early ones though. I swear I notice input lag, might just be SFV shitty netcode though. Plus it a pita to mod.

judging lag by netcode is a bad call, especially sfv netcode lol. if you are looking for a stick that is an easy mod, the te will do you well but beware any pcb issues. though if you wanted to mod the pcb anyway, then you are safe.

Not gonna lie part of the reason I got back into SFV was to be able to use the VSHG I picked up a while back. Man, what an amazing stick. Aesthetics are on point.

Is there a better reputation american style brand? I doubt MAS exists anymore and that is the only other american style stick I used to see being talked about.

If you are looking for a battop joystick and lever, I would go to a Crown or Myoungshin fanta stick. They are both Korean sticks and feel great.

Etokki has the Omni stick in stock for $199 plus shipping (Shipping will be $50+ in the states though) with the Myoungshin Fanta stick pre installed.

https://www.focusattack.com/joysticks/popular-brands/crown-myoungshin/ Focus Attack sells both Crown and Fanta sticks. If you're going Crown, some people like to buy the microswitches upgrade kit to switch out the Crown microswitches for the Fanta microswitches. But that's due to preference.

If you are looking strictly for the old HAPP part feel, I suggest Industrias Lorenzo, or IL parts. They used to be the HAPP manufacturers until HAPP shifted production to China to save on costs.

Even at £80 for the TES+ vs £70 for the Venom?

damn that thing looks slick.

edit: and a headphone jack? I'm gonna have to wait and see details on the fighting edge but that looks mighty tempting.

Yeah, that Obsidian looks too cool to pass up. Pre-ordered.

Just need to get rid of my TES+. Barely used. I should have sold it earlier.

Ugh, new Obsidian announcement + the fact that I "fixed" my TE2+ last night (Stupid issue with how the wires were set up by MadCatz that I should have noticed earlier, though it remains to be seen if this one also has the board problem my original had) means buying the Crystal was a huge mistake. Qanba's return policy seems pretty terrible, so I might just try to sell it off myself to make back most of what I spent.

Anyone know the best apps to use for listing a stick? Is Craigslist still the go to place?

It's a shame those new Qanba sticks don't seem to be available anywhere in Europe.

Maybe it isn't a bad thing though. I really don't need another stick, nor do I want to have to go to the effort of selling my TE2. :P

Kinda crazy how many new models they've announced I'm a short time. Nothing until evo and then like 5 different sticks in almost as many months.

Qanba this gen is again killing it with these joystick designs. I'd honestly say they have surpassed the other mass manufacturers.

So what's the problem exactly? I see posts about input drops due to connection to buttons, but what's the PCB issue?

I have an original PS3 TE stick, how would I go about getting it to work across PS4 games, being I'm in UK and have no soldering equip and not enough practise I wanna gamble it.

I'm also pretty clueless on cost. :P

Thanks for your input so far.

PCB issue on it can lead to missed/dropped inputs and problems connecting/staying connected to the console.

The cheapest way to get a PS3 stick to work on PS4 is with a Brook adapter for £35. They don't have lag and are allowed at tournaments but you will a PC/Mac to update the firmware on it if needed.
https://www.arcadeworlduk.com/products/brook-ps3-to-ps4-controller-adapter.html

The main PCB replacement is also a Brook, their Universal PCB which gives PS3/PS4/360/X1/PC and requires no solder. That will be around £80 but I wasn't able to find it in stock in a couple UK shops so you might have to wait for that to come back in stock

I went and ordered the Obsidian myself. With free shipping, no tax to California, and the free backpack, it's too good of a deal.

Qanba is coming at MadCatz's neck right now. MadCatz is basically done after this gen.

I just wish they released this stuff a year ago. I'm happy with my HRAP4 but I would've strongly considered a Crystal or an Obsidian if they came out around SFV's launch. I feel like they went radio silent for like a year or two while they were working on these. I remember for the longest time Eightarc's online site had nothing in stock to the point where I wondered whether or not Qanba was dying.

And yeah, MadCatz is dying. They've been losing tons of money year after year and a lot of their high ranking staff left including Markman (who, from my understanding, spearheaded MCZ's foray into sticks from the very beginning). I would not get their stuff at this point because once they go out of business you're SOL if your stick breaks.

you can use the te2 ez mod in conjunction with the brooks ufb to mod it for all consoles though.

Been on the fence on modding one of mine, I love the form factor of the te2 a lot.

Anyone got their hands on a Qanba Dragon yet? I'm considering jumping into the second wave of pre-orders.

Edit - Fuck it I'm just gonna get one.

with MCZ sticks, its inevitable
I've never had a problem with Mad Catz sticks and through the years I've owned quite a few:

Original TE (multiple)
TES (black)
Comic Con TE
Killer Instinct TE2
Guilty Gear TE2
Fight Stick Alpha
TE2+

I own just an original TE (360) now which I bought from another member recently. I love it.

Again, the complaints about Madcatz right now are the TE2+, and the TE+. Those PCBs are fucked. They switched to a new PCB that shortened the input lag, but also seem to cause higher failure rates.

I'm glad that you seem to have no problems with your sticks, but that doesn't disprove that there haven't been issues with Madcatz's current sticks, just that you have been lucky with a good pcb.
