Super Mario Run 10M+ downloads Day 1, over $4M revenue, biggest Appstore launch ever.

I was skeptical of the game but I have to admit, it's insanely addictive. Especially when you link up your profile with friends.

At least in this magical mushroom world, I will always be #1...

A game that encourages people to play outside and socialize in the world versus an endless runner. Pokémon Go has a lot of flaws, but even with glitches, it still managed to be revolutionary.

It isn't an "endless runner". Not even close. Why do you, and others, keep purposely lying about this? And why do you insist on commenting about the game if you've obvisously never played it, nor have looked up even the most fundamental aspect?

What are you talking about? How is this different from any other mobile game? And since it's an always-online game, what happens if they shut off the servers?

While it's true that few mobile games can have that broad kind of appeal, it is like many others in the fact that it has an in-game currency--purchasable with real money--that can be used to buy consumable items. These games will continue to rule the highest-grossing charts.

Super Mario Run will fall off the highest-grossing chart much more quickly. I'm not knocking it, it's just that people will either buy it or not, and then there is no more reason for anyone to spend money on it. I'm kind of shocked that the game was released in this state, where it's 100% complete and doesn't seem to leave the door open for paid DLC to be added on a regular basis. That's completely the opposite of most mobile games in 2016, especially the popular ones.
You know, I think they'll be fine when it does drop off even if it's like the end of next week. They've still got fire emblem and animal crossing ready to go early next year. I feel like they'll start pumping out these mobile games like once a quarter for easy money lol.

People will literally buy anything with a picture of Mario on it.

Obviously it doesn't hurt that the game seems to be a quality product.

Just updated to reflect new figures of 10 million downloads for the first day.

Can you blame them? Look that happy face on Mario compare to other moblie games lol.

Side note: The red color in the app makes feel for me like the perfect game for Christmas.

Thread title needs that 10 million number.

I'd say this from the OP is important for the thread title too.

Update: App Annie sent us a bit more data after this story ran. The company estimates that the game had more than 10 million downloads on Dec. 15 worldwide and brought in more than $4 million. They also noted that the game had 20 million pre-registrations (people who clicked on the Notify button in the app store) prior to its release.

Super Mario Run became the top ranked game by downloads in 60 countries shortly after launch, according to the company.

So it looks like only 400,000 thousand people have paid for the game so far out of 10 million?

OHMYGOD
3X Pokemon Go!???

It's just free downloads anyway, it looks like only 400,000 thousand people have paid for the game out of 10 million downloads.

Super Mario Run still has a long way to go and compared to go Pokémon Go, Pokémon Go reached 600 million downloads last reported in November.

I downloaded and paid for it. I'm having a blast with it. It's the first mobile game I've paid for or played in nearly three years. This is how mobile gaming should be on a phone. There are so many crap games to filter through that I don't even bother anymore.

I wonder if the NSMB and 3D Land/World games will see a huge uptick in sales. Too bad the only "new" Mario packaged game for a while is Mario Maker 3DS. Nothing is really in the pipeline to get the boost that Pokemon Sun and Moon got becoming the fastest selling Pokemon titles in the US and beating this year's CoD despite how "terrible" 3ds is.

Lol the facebook button makes the app crash in my old iPad 4th gen. At a least it runs, although I did notice some minimal hiccups here and there.
How am I supposed to add 10 friends then? Then again it doesn't seem they sell anything useful in the points store.

Mario Switch is rumoured to be a launch title. That would be 4 months from Mario Run, similar number to the difference between Pokemon Go and Pokemon Sun & Moon (July & Novemver respectivelly).

That's awesome. I just wish they would change the always online part to just be a 24 hour check or something like that . I was on call at the hospital and whenever I had the chance to play my phone would barely get reception and I couldn't .

Only 40 million in revenue on day one...they must be shitting their pants

I'm curious to see how FE and AC will do. Definitely not as well as Mario or Pokemon, but I'd love to see the ones that aren't familiar check out those franchises. Fire Emblem would be a great title for those who enjoy games like Clans.

Wow, I saw it mentioned that New Super Mario Bros. Wii was suddenly charting again on Amazon, and I just looked and it is! Granted, it is at 100 right now, but that is amazing to me. I guess Super Mario Run really is reactivating some mindshare.

On the other hand, this is just Apple devices.

I'm guessing Nintendos development costs will be significantly lower as well given its reused assets and a mobile game. Nintendo is so doomed.

Also the 4 months from retail release is interesting, wonder if the Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing Switch announcements will come Hanuary 12gh.

Fixed that for you. The Switch will very likely be Nintendo's final hardware.

It is not "only" in any way
We have reports about 5 millions and more than 4 millions in revenue so with 10 millions downloads the ratio is very high for the Apple Store

It is a record for the store in terms of downloads and so far has been available for less than two days

And it is not yet available on Google play

So ... so far has been an outstanding success
