US PSN Holiday Sale Week 3 (12/20/2016 - 12/26/2016)

Is Metal Slug 3 a straight port or are there some cool modes and features?

I like their Last Blade 2 port.

If you have the hardware then everyone should play:

Risk of Rain
Shantae and the Pirate's Curse
Muramasa Rebirth Complete
Bloodborne
Rayman Legends
The Banner Saga
OlliOlli 2
Severed (it's also on iOS for $6.99)

LOL @ Rayman Legends being more expensive on Vita, though :(

I also really liked Shadow of Mordor.

Mortal Kombat X is the first MK I actually enjoyed. Easily the best NetherRealms game. Tons to do. XL is a fantastic package for $20.

XCOM Enemy Unknown Plus is a rough port but it's acceptable and absolutely worth $5 to have XCOM on your Vita.

Would it be better to just get the base game for Bloodborne and wait for a sale on Old Hunters or just do the full bundle now?

Got Mortal Kombat XL so far this week. I guess I will wait until the Flash Sale and next week but overall I think this sale has been pretty great so far.

IMO, Amazing. It was my GotY the year it came out. Batman Arkham style combat. Open world. Cool nemesis system for bosses etc. I went in knowing little about it & it blew me away. I do know some people that played it post "GotY" and came away a little underwhelmed tho.
Thanks, I may just buy it this week then.

I'm just going to go with my ME:Catalyst and Oxenfree for now. Waiting on that flash sale and Resident Evil next month. Too much of a backlog between XB1 and PS4 already. Just picked up Superhot, Stardew Valley, FFXV, DR4 and TLG on sale as well. I need to quit for a second.

Some of those mobile exclusive skin unlocks are pretty cool if you can find someone sharing their WB I.D.

Or do what I did and play the dumb MKX mobile game for two weeks. It's kind of fun in an awful way.

Man, I love it. It does take a bit to get going but once it opens up and lets you off the chain it's a great experience. The second half of the game is especially cool.

How is Oxenfree? Always been intrigued by that game.

If you like Life is Strange, The Walking Dead, etc, you'll probably like it.

I'm going pick up Severed, supposedly it's an excellent game, also gives me an excuse to get the Vita out of storage.

Couldn't resist Bloodborne at $8. With all the praise from GAF, I had to bite. This will be my first dive into these kind of games so any advice is welcomed!

Don't be afraid to ask for help!

Oh, and the beginning will pressure you. A lot. Push through it though.

Before you even fight an enemy just stand in a spot and test out all your swings. How long it takes for you to do a full swing and then be able to dodge. How many you can take before you run out of stamina. How you can switch swinging from one direction to another. The best thing about these types of games are that once you know exactly what your character can and can't do the gameplay is that much better. Too many people just run in without getting a feel for how their character(and weapon) behave which tends to frustrate a lot of newcomers.

Good luck and have fun.

Should I get Rayman Legends on PS4 or Wii U? Tempted at this price.

PS4.

First an foremost, the PS4 version has virtually zero loadtimes. Everything is instant.

After that, it's preference, I personally prefer using a DS4 to a Wii U Gamepad or Pro Controlelr and I think any opportunity to avoid having to engage with the cumbersome Wii U is worth taking.

Visually the games are identical. I would rather have zero load times over the Wii U features. They are dependent on the Gamepad and again, not a fan of the Gamepad.

What all these guys said + double-down on if you ever have any questions about any of the mechanics, definitely ask. I'd have never enjoyed the game entirely blind.

Oh, and the game is totally a stat game. Stats definitely matter for anyone not super MLG legit pro, Health (Vitality) being the most important one for early game. You can level up said stats after encountering the first boss, even if you die to him.

Grabbed Mind Zero and Superbeat Xonic! Been on the fence about Xonic for a few months now, glad I waited!

I'd love to grab it but it's so big. I don't think I could free up enough space on my Vita without damaging my soul.

Get Sheltered! Its like a pixel art Fallout Shelter with actual gameplay. I had a great time with it, probably close to 70 hours. It is a great game.

I'm definitely interested. I liked the idea of Fallout Shelter but it was too shallow.

The Metacritic and User Rating is pretty mediocre, though. Anyone else have positive feelings about Sheltered?

I'm tempted to pick up Oxenfree for my SO. She's enjoyed the tell tale games, light puzzle games like Machinarium, and requested Life is Strange for Christmas. Am I in the right ball park with this?

I used to think Souls games were for masochists, that people just enjoyed being punished for no good reason, that they could be playing something fun instead. And that I positively, definitely would have to replace a controller or two if I ever tried to play them.

Just over a year ago I decided to finally take Demon's Souls (that I purchased on a whim when it was like 80% off) out of my backlog. Yada yada yada, went through most of the series in succession and BB shoot all the way up to my #3 GOAT.

No controllers were harmed.

I'll take the plunge on a Soulsborne game one of these days. My understanding of the games (purely based on what I've heard as I haven't played them) is not that they're unreasonably difficult, but rather a process of learning exactly how to beat an enemy with the tools at hand. I can see how beating a boss can be immensely satisfying in these games, as it feels like solving a challenging puzzle. But as someone who's rarely enjoyed boss battles in games, doesn't have much patience (only in regards to playing video games of course) easily frustrated with frequent deaths, not liking to repeat progress after a 'game over' (again, lack of patience and easy frustration), I'm pretty skeptical I'd actually enjoy any of these games. I will try one of them at some point, but maybe when my backlog clears up a bit.

Sounds like youve already made up your mind... Without giving it a fair chance

I think patience and learning from your encounters are vital in Bloodborne. Otherwise, you'll just keep perpetuating death when death has already given you all the answers you need.

Picked up Battlefront Ultimate Edition. Played a few rounds but man....I think Titanfall 2 ruined other multiplayer games for me.

I hope I can get into it more. I've been wanting to play this since it released.

I'm currently eyeing Oxenfree, Severed and the Shantae games. I imagine I will get a PSN gift card this weekend, so will mull it over until then.

Currently listening to Frame Trap (Easy Allies 2nd excellent podcast) and they're talking about the greatness of Bloodborne which I stubbornly haven't tried (I've also never played a Souls game) and I feel like I'd be letting them down and the rest of GAF down if I didn't spend a measly $8 for that game.

So, i'll get that.

Which episode ? I'll always down to give new podcasts a listen, and a bloodbourne segmrnt seems like a good introduction

Best bang for your buck right now. Free maps, and all Operator and most DLC can be unlocked just by playing, including Season Pass Operators.

Very well balanced too, though the difficulty curve can be a little high.

Been meaning to give this a fair shake but am worried about the switch from playing much more faster paced shooters like Overwatch & Titanfall 2 lately, the brief time I spent with it back when I picked it up seemed much more slow paced and the game did a poor job of explaining the whole multiplayer match set up, etc. I'll seek out an OT for it and try to get my learn on...

Guess my point is just that I never see anyone on here with a negative opinion towards Rainbow Six & it makes me feel like I'm missing out lol

Sounds like youve already made up your mind... Without giving it a fair chance

Then my initial post has failed to reveal my actual intent, and I apologize for that. I only seek to explain my hesitations and reservations for playing this series, despite hearing good things about the games. As stated before, I easily lose patience in games and can get frustrated rather easily with repeated deaths in the same area of a game. I know that about myself. And as someone who has not really enjoyed the concept of boss battles in most other games, I personally don't think it's unreasonable to question how much I might enjoy Bloodborne.

I don't doubt the games are incredibly well made and have great reasons to well liked by many. I just stated the reasons why I'm skeptical about whether the series will appeal to me (which again, has more to do with me than any actual faults with the game itself). Every game played is a time investment, and it's not unreasonable to try and assess whether I will truly enjoy a game before trying to play it. It is not a perfect science. If I knew for a fact I'd hate Bloodborne before playing it, I would not bother. But obviously I don't know that, and despite on the surface it may not appear to be a game I'd immediately be interested in, I've heard enough good things about the series that I will try it at some point. You may say I'm not "giving it a fair chance", and that's fine, but all I'll say is that once I start a game, I try not to actively waste my own time by telling myself to 'hate it'. After all, I've been wrong in the past thinking I'd not like a game and it winds up being one of my favorites.

Hope I made some sense in that. I'm also not here to state this a bad deal on the games. $8 for the base game and $20 for the complete collection are fantastic prices, to the point it's got someone like me who's unsure if I'll like it tempted to just bite the bullet and pick it up.

That Overcooked game has been flirting with me for weeks now, so I broke my promise about not buying stuff. These sales are making my wallet sad, and I have no time to play.

Here's a negative: The community at times can be utter garbage, and forces you to do that garbage. Team killing is an issue that can make or break the game. Casual is too casual at times when it comes to taking action against purposefully shitty player, and ranked is too serious to play as an average player and make mistakes.

However, look past this issue as it happens maybe 10% of the time.

How is the Star Wars Throwback Pack for PS4?
Asking as well. I want to play a multiplayer game and saw Racer Revenge. Should I get the Throwback Pack, just Racer Revenge, or none at all?

Also, probably picking up Bloodborne since I don't see any other good multiplayer games. Looks like a fun time.

I'm thinking of grabbing Rainbow Six or Hitman, i'm pretty torn between the two. I haven't really been in multiplayer games so far this generation, but Rainbow Six definitely may change that. I really like the DLC model too.

I finally got Bloodbourne with the last $10 of credit I had on my account.
Not sure if I'll ever git gud but for that price it's a steal.

Banner Saga has a nice discount too.

Really pissed off, since I already had Until Dawn in my cart, yet had to refill my wallet. Once I returned it turned back to 19.99 and I see only deals for shit I don't care about.
Well let's hope that Flash Sale offers something good.

That deal ended Tuesday morning. You can't just reserve the price by keeping it in your cart, it will update to the current price when you refresh the page or proceed to checkout.

Got it last year, and had a ton of fun with it. I was waiting for a racer sequel like forever only finding out there was one in ps2. And it's better in every way than the first one. Bounty hunter I already played on the GameCube, but it's also a good game. The starfighter one I wanted always to play because it never came to GameCube. It's a really great old school game, miss that ones now.

And super star wars is just super star wars lol. Played the original on snes to death so it's just a nice addition to the package.

I think if you are a sw racer fan the price is worth it for racer revenge alone.

I guess I can't buy Severed after all. I've tried 3 different cards, and the store won't let me buy anything. I'm getting that "Missed Charges" problem. I did a google search and saw that lots of people have had this issue.

I'm not about to call Sony support to beg them to let me give them money.

How are you paying? The webstore?

I find that when this happens to me I'm using the webstore. Purchasing on a console usually goes through.

Using PayPal also works.

I'm really intrigued by Werewolves Within, but for the life of me I can't work out how the bloody thing seems to play.

Even watching LP's I just don't seem to understand the mechanics of the 'game' - probably because I've never played it in real life.

Still, I'll probably get it, as it just looks interesting :D
