Canadian (especially First Nations) dad/family could explain her Thunderbird and Raindancer skins.

Blizzard did mention they'd reveal her father when it was appropriate - a holiday/Christmas comic seems to fit that context.

Edit: Some people on the battle.net forums and tumblr are saying her skins match the style of tribes from the Pacific Northwest. So maybe her dad/dad's side of the family is from Vancouver.

The running theory is that he was canadian most way through development for all those reasons.Closer to release they realized there was no south american representation so they took him away from canada, made him brazillian and probably given a name change (as lucio isn't a common one up here).
 
Putting my game disc in tonight into the ps4 and realized they made the main star of one of the biggest games of the year gay. There's a lot of different opinions on how it was handled, etc, and the game itself has no reliance on story for any of it's mechanics since it's a hero shooter and all...

But still, that's kind of cool.

The timelime would also suggest they realized that the olympics were coming up soon after release, being held in rio, so switching him would make sense.

I'm still a little surprised that they've done next to nothing to establish his Brazilian identity outside of the soccer outfit. Not even foreign dialogue?

if the VA doesn't speak brazillian portuguese, even if they phonetically tell him how to say phrases it will sound bad so they probably rather avoid that being an issue people hark on and just say that it is done badly.

According to IMBD (So take it with a grain of salt), he can speak spanish and english. His last name, Cruz, is spanish so it would explain it, but I could not find anything about him knowing any portuguese.
 
Early in the comic Tracer is drinking hot chocolate from the middle of the mug. It's covering her chin.

Did they have three hours to create this whole issue?

I don't really think it makes sense for her to be having a dinner in Canada with her squadmate when they're both from Egypt.

I think the father/family angle makes more sense given that the guy looks older than her and there's some circumstantial reasons on top of it (her Thunderbird and Rainmaker skins and Blizzard saying she knows who her father is and that it would be revealed when it made sense).

As Michael Chu put it in August:
In-universe, the identity of Pharah's father is not considered to be a secret (Pharah knows who her father is). However, we haven't revealed it in the game or any of the related comics or animated shorts (or anywhere else outside of game).

When a story or opportunity where it feels appropriate or natural for it to be addressed, you'll get the answer. Until then, feel free to speculate away!

Yeh, it would give context to her Thunderbird/Raindance skins which was sorely missing(Since she was the odd thumb out what with being Arabian and having Native American styled skins).

Though Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese are different, they should still try to implement some native tongue in there. Everyone else speaks it.
