Steam Winter Sale 2016 thread of hoping for better deals elsewhere

Republic Commando is better, but Dark Messiah is a beautiful mess of a game

Rather different games and genres. There isn't really anything quite like Dark Messiah (1st person action RPG with special attention to wacky physics), so I would pick it.

There is a demo, so I would try it first, though. The story is almost non existent, the beginning is sort of bland and it sort of takes a bit to get used to the controls. But it then click and it's pretty entertaining.

oh, i already played both years ago i'm just itching to replay them. might go with dark messiah now that i remember how funny the ice spell was

VAL-HALLA (sorry, I forget where the numbers go) is actually a very, very good game with a poignant narrative so far

It's not a "waifu game" as some tried to lead me to believe. I'm glad the graphics/OST were able to draw me in.

For anybody at all interested in cyberpunk bartending there's a demo with a shitload of possible choices and endings here: https://sukebangames.itch.io/valhalla-bar

This actually contains important story content for the game, so even if you already bought the game, play the demo first.

Story is pretty meh. You're mostly just resqueing people while expanding base camp.

Endgame activities are the main attraction of the game.
That's what I wanted to hear. The Survivor mode sounds fun. I very rarely play FPS multiplayer games nowadays, so I guess the itch comes from that.

Or kicking a fool towards the spike traps.

Just bought VA-11 Hall-A. Probably the only thing I will get this sale, as I want to focus on my backlog [play Overwatch instead of finishing The Witcher 3, DOOM, Dishonored, or Deus Ex: Mankind Divided.

Just saw this post, thanks for the heads up.

Any opinions on this first batch?

I was eyeing Space Hulk, I understand that at first it was not well received, but I think it is much improved now? But there seem to be two of them, "Space Hulk" and "Space Hulk Ascension", which one should I get? Is "Ascension" the bug-fixed version of the first release? Is it an expansion?
The original is pretty much a direct conversion of the board game which made people who don't like direct conversions of board games with their slow movement and dice based combat super salty. If you like the board game you'll like it. Ascension is basically a more video gamey version of Space Hulk. Still turn based, adds a leveling system, new weapons, prettier graphics. Was broken for a long time because the dev went bankrupt but seems like they released a beta version that fixed most of the bugs that could prevent you from being able to complete missions.

Wow, I almost got the steam controller a day or two ago, and good thing Amazon is matching the price, steam shipping is reportedly higher.

I was hoping Shadow Warrior 2 would be even cheaper come this sale. I played the first game earlier this year and had a fairly nice time with it. Far from great, but an alright game.

Oh well, I can wait. Plus, it just came out this year, which I forgot already.

DoDonPachi Resurrection, Stephen's Sausage Roll and ASTRONEER for me. Kind of a bummer sale but that is the norm these days.

edit: Catacomb Kids as well.

Anyone lookin for Dragon Quest Heroes it's $10 USD on Square's EU store, bought and redeemed fine for me in the US.

Were you able to sign in with an NA square account or did you have to make a EU account? I want to know before making either lol.

And if you're a Mac user, tough luck. The devs don't seem to care about making a version of the demo for macOS. It's why I haven't bought the game on Steam yet.

Nice, FFX is also cheaper in Square Enix Store at $13 instead of $18.

I got both on the SE EU Store and redeemed fine on US Steam. Yet another Steam sale where you are better off getting games elsewhere.

I'm going a little smaller with my purchases this year, my backlog is starting to spread across my other systems since I got a PS4 for the first time and a few 3DS games recently.

Ended up with:
Assassin's Creed Rouge and Unity
Ori and the Blind Forest
Dragon Age Inquisition GOTY (on Origin, I already owned the base game, I just needed the DLC which was cheaper as the pack instead of separately)

The sales Sony and Microsoft are putting out are pretty good this year too plus I got $10 on both PSN and Xbox (gift from Sony, and Bing Rewards for Microsoft), so I'll probably get at least two more games on those marketplaces.

These sales are fucking trash. Garbage shit dumpster fire
i already own all the games. Best deal i can get is like 50% WHERE MAH 8000000000%

Not sure what to buy. Think I'll hold off on Planet Coaster until there is a bigger discount, I have had enough of RPGs for a while so Xanadu can wait. Would be good to find a fun local multiplayer/co-op I can play with my sister, been looking for a while but haven't found anything.

Absolutely you should buy it on PC, especially if you have a half-way decent setup. The framerate and level of detail on the PS3 version is atrocious, and the PC version is really well optimized. It's better put together than most of the recent "remasters" we've seen of PS3 era games.

Thanks! Much appreciated :D.

Also congrats on the promotion (belated as the message may be haha) :D.

Been wondering this for some time now as I'm in the same position as you with Dragon Age Inquisition - does it just upgrade your game and add the DLC to your account, or does it add a duplicate entry of the game to your account?

So GOD Eater comes with 1 & 2 and is 516 NTD (16 bucks). I play MH on my 3DS, yay or nay?

I was going to buy astroneer if I bought nothing and its roughly the same price.

And done with the sales (hopefully). By the way, Valve, I think your layout is messed up. Total damage for 8 games: 23.37€

'Waifu bartending' is sort of the self-deprecating way the developers describe it, but it really couldn't be anything further from the truth. It's a straight up character study of a pretty diverse group of people, and waaaaay more than wooing people it's about shooting shit with regulars and just being an ear to people's daily issues in a hyper-corporate dystopia.

And also mixing drinks to really cool electronic beats.
