Double Dragon 4 (PS4/Steam) teaser trailer

Double Dragon Advance is pretty much that middle ground you're looking for. It's got the arcade sprites but they added the NES moves like the flying knee and some Super Double Dragon moves and weapons as well.
Probably one of the best Double Dragon games.

What about that Turbografx 16 version.

IMO The two best Double Dragon games are Advance and Neon.
Advance perfectly captures everything good about the Arcade games, and adds a bunch of cool stuff like parries, juggle combos, and so on. Neon does it's own thing, while carrying over distinct Double Dragon elements.

Hmm.. I wonder if DD4 is going to be 30 fps like DD2 NES.

Double Dragon Advance is a pretty good video game. Bit on the short side though.

Double Dragon Neon is awesome to the max. Super Double Dragon is my second favorite.

I'm not interested in the simple mechanics of the NES games to be honest. I hope Arc borrows ideas from Super and Neon.

Me and my best friend at the time would beat it on 1 quarter each and then walk away without fighting each other at the end. #bros
wow same thing! we used to try beat each other up until one bar and then try even it out just to get little extra kicks in.

No, it totally was. DD Arcade was probably the first BEU that I ever played. I had tons of fun playing it with my kid brother at my local Pizza Hut back in the late '80s. It was great for the time because there was really nothing else to compare it to. There was no Final Fight or TMNT yet. But when playing it again fairly recently I was pretty shocked that it held up so poorly.
i still play it and think it's pretty damn fun but the nes does seems more fun due to the RPG elements.
Yeah, but the slowdown was necessary to tee-up your elbow! Game still has a huge dirty charm though and awesome soundtrack.

you know what was fun? trying to carry the stage 1 oil drums as far as we can.
i can bring them as far as mission 3 but have to leave them once billy has to climb the cliff to face the Hulk.

People wishing for a 16-bit or Arcade style should really check out the GBA game if you have not done so already. It was severely overlooked at the time but it was one of my favorite games on the handheld.

DD Arcade is terrible. Its designed to eat your quarters. Suffers from that particular syndrome, not fun.

DD NES was better, but ofcourse much more limited in graphics. I would have liked a hybrid of sorts, arcade sprites with better gameplay and more meaty level design. So yeah, a bit like Advance. I didn't really enjoy what I've tried of Neon.

I was going to be cynical when I read the title, "double dragon 4, what?" - then I saw the arc system works logo and thought insta-purchase! then I saw the nes sprites used in the new game and went back to cynical.

meh.

This is awesome news, so their taking super double dragon out of time line canon then but keeping DD3 in it wtf!?.

Odd that they are using the NES art style over the arcade..... not that I mind that as the NES games are better games than the arcade versions

A good game will generally come from some kind of creative spark. When I see them digging up old NES sprites I just think it's kind of a cynical nostalgia cash in -- Keep the dev cost as low as possible by recycling old art and doing very little with the presentation and you'll turn a profit by selling some units to 30-somethings who remember playing NES.

Not filled with confidence or excitement.

Ok, now this looks good after the neon train wreck. A lot of people are going to be excited for this if it turns out well. Believe it or not EGM gave one of these GOTY

All the people shitting on Neon in here. Breaks my heart.

It's a really bad, ugly and not so good game with some fun music. Terrible art but at least i managed to finish that mess. I think almost anyone could design better playing/looking levels than half the game.

As for this new game there isn't enough to go on to if the levels, characters and game play will mesh. They have shown some fast moving enemies and that's about it. It has a chance with the style but other than that too early to say.

Where's Tekno when you need him? :(

I understand taking advantage of nostalgia, but damn this looks like a fan game! Developers could have at least used arcade graphics!

Super Double Dragon was never officially titled Double Dragon 4 in any region, it was merely implied when Tradewest released their own awful game as Double Dragon V.

This is THE game I've been waiting for that I never expected to even be made. Thank you ArcSys for continuing the NES Double Dragon.

Was hyped until I saw the Art style. I mean at least use the coin-op sprites if you want to go retro else Double Dragon Neon. Better yet - let people switch on the fly like SSF2 HD. Everyone wins.

Game looks like ass, should look no less than 16-bit.
What's even more strange is that it's a NES looking game and it's not even on a Nintendo system.

Personally they should have gone with the 16 bit style ie Super Double Dragon.

Saying that it still looks pretty fun, but I'm kinda tired of 8 bit style games. I also didn't like the direction and art style in Neon, keep it SNES era looking.

Holy shit! Where did this come from? :D
Also screw the haters.

Also I hope we get a physical release with box art in the exact same style as this:

I think most people who actually gave the game a chance really enjoyed it. IGN"s horrible review probably turned off a ton of people.

Fun Fact: The director of Double Dragon Neon, Sean Velasco, directed Shovel Knight!

That explains why neon is one of the best games ever made.

Oh my god O_O

I love it!
My cousin and I were devout players of the DD games.

This will be a perfect instance to invite him home. Our fiancees will speak and look annoyed at a couple of grown-ass men playing their Nintendo game :D
