Double Dragon 4 (PS4/Steam) teaser trailer

I like it a lot. I like the added juggle mechanics and the widescreen display. Looks like it could be good, arksys does a good job on 2d brawler stuff.

I like the look of this. I liked Double Dragon II when I was a kid. That follow up kick after a throw looked nice.

I'm glad they're sticking with these visuals. I don't think they ever looked better than Double Dragon II, that's just me though.

I tried out Double Dragon Neon because I think I saw people actually say it was good. I hated it.

Gonna have to get the timing down for that OP knee all over again...

Not a fan. Why use NES sprites when Double Dragon Advance exists?

Generally when new games are made using 8-bit sprites, it's done because they're trying to invoke the look and feel of that era. Like Mega Man 9. That game was amazing in it's design, so if the same kind of proper care is taken with this game, it should be great.

I wish developers and fans alike could move on from 8 bit shit. If they want a retro/classic feeling, 16 bit and above, please.

I may try this out of curiosity though.

I'd rather have both. We get plenty of 16-bit throwback games. I'd like to continue to get 8-bit styled games, too. I like both.

Most of the 8 bit retro remakes or new games arent made well in level design or gameplay though. If we had more good 8bit games would make a huge difference.

I'd prefer a new Ninja Gaiden or Contra over a new 3d NG though lol I know people would rather have 3d NG.

16 bit takes a lot more talent level, skill and artistic ability so it is less likely to get games that beat 16 bit era. Earthworm jim etc

looks totally like original staff there. woul've prefered a more advanced look like their recent games, but i dig it.

true sequel is long overdue.

wtf I just booted up and played a level of Neon earlier today lol, this is great news, DD2 Nes is one of my all time favorite games.

I wouldn't mind talking about Neaon but that sort of goes against this thread too far lol

I still believe this DD could end up bad and it is strange what they have shown so far imo
Its possible but it seems to be adding depth with juggles and the main menu at the end is definitely hinting at something more. ArcSys know their shit, I have every confidence this will be as good if not better than NES DD2 - which is a legit belter, even today.

Wait, then what is... holy shit, Super Double Dragon isn't called Super Double Dragon IV. I thought it did the Castlevania thing.

Ugh can't say I'm excited for NES graphics. Especially coming from arc system works I was expecting something completely different.

Yeah, I guess your right. The NES version of Double Dragon II was great, and I'm sure Arc System Works will release a solid game.

It's just that I really really REALLY love Double Dragon Advance's gameplay (and graphics). It's honestly one of the finest beat 'em ups in existence. I hope it'll appear on the Virtual Console someday...

It's not? That's insane.

I own the Master System version, we played the shit out of it as kids but I still associate Double Dragon with the Arcade game first. Just find it odd to continue with the sparse small sprite stuff.

One of the best, simple and effect combo systems I played that was fun at the same time was actually in the contra mixed adv. of batman and robin on the genesis. Had a nice 3 hit splash effect into enemies or it sort of felt that way.

The only things I am not liking here is this enemy who sort of keeps zipping around but as we know this is hardly anything to go by as we aren't seeing anything that remotely resembles general play in this trailer. Nothing really to tell on level design which is what will kill or save this game. We know what art style and base gameplay it will have which works. Now, I have to see how they design the look and feel of the levels for me to enjoy it.

Awesome!

Also I played the arcade DDs at a barcade recently. They age horribly!

The NES duo, III is not mentioned, are way better.

I feel like a weirdo that I loved all these games as a kid, but can't get excited about retro-style graphics anymore.

Awesome news, can't wait! I love to see Double Dragon is back, releasing the game for PS4, next month and with cast from the classic games.

The NES visuals don't look well, games like Shovel Night at least look beatiful. Let's hope for the next game the ARC team helps them to provide visuals more or less similar to Guilty Gear Xrd.

The arcade games played today are basically garbage, the NES games (specially DD2) were better gameplay-wise.

They have. Check out the indie thread.

This is only more common with retro throwbacks. And they have been that much.

Even if DD4 fails to take cues from Advance, Super, or Neon, I hope we get dedicated punch and kick buttons, not the DD2 left/right nonsense.

Guess Wayforward was too busy with Shantae to do a Double Dragon Neon sequel. Neon was great. I don't know what people's deal is with hating/not liking Neon.

Been enjoying the hell out of Wild guns Reloaded so I'm down for more retro games especially since Reloaded is gorgeous, but man this looks terrible.

Since DD2 was the one I most played on arcade, I was quite fond of the left-right controls actually. It allowed you to move around much more without worrying you might punch in the wrong direction: at most you would get a kick in the right direction, which is far preferable, plus allowed you to attack while retreating.

Looks good, I'll get it. It needs to be said that the original creator of the Double Dragon series, Yoshihisa Kishimoto, is the director of Double Dragon 4. Therefore, I'm not worried about the end product.

Depends on how many key staff moved to Yacht Club Games for them to even do a sequel.

I loved the hell out of Neon, and I'm still excited for this. I find that the NES games hold up better than the arcade version (and I'm not the biggest fan of the SNES entries), so I support the decision to go 8-Bit here.

To think we'd get new 2D games evoking the style of the 8 through 32 bit eras in the span of a few months of each other (Wild Guns: Reloaded, Double Dragon IV, Sonic Mania), what a time to be alive.

IIRC, YCG is pretty much made up of the main team from Neon. I think they left WF because they didn't want the team split up for other projects or something?
