Steam Winter Sale 2016 thread of hoping for better deals elsewhere

Today is my Steam account's birthday! Man how time flies, it's been 5 years since I started using Steam and I joined this part of the forum.
Now to wait for the badge to rollover to 5.

That's quite a collection :). My account is twice as old, with a game count of 139 games right now.

Are there only those 2? :[
Almost all roguelites have a permanent unlock system, though not necessarily styled as collecting gold to buy upgrades like in Rogue Legacy. Toy Odyssey is basically a clone of Rogue Legacy if you want that specific in-game economy between runs.

- Crowntakers also has a mode where you get to keep your characters levels between runs.
- Enchanted Cave 2 is more classic roguelike in light form but also allows you to keep your level between runs (and part of the game design is that you voluntarily leave the dungeon when you start feeling the heat).
- Neon Chrome is a dualstick roguelite with a cyberpunk aesthetic where you keep your level and buffs and it also includes a mechanic where each time you beat the final boss, the game (and you) level up a notch to do more damage and have more health (in addition to having stat upgrades you buy with the money you earn in a run).
- Sproggiwood is also a roguelike/lite mix like Enchanted Cave. It plays like a classic turn-based roguelike but you have a little town you upgrade to buff your character for the next run.

If you get bored of those and want to start grabbing from the "meh it's ok" pile, there's also Full Mojo Rampage, Hero Siege, Kill to Collect, Utopia 9, Wasted and... I know there's more but I'm forgetting now.

The enemy in Dark Souls 3 that has a fire poker and an incredibly long distance mist attack that completely drains your health and decreases your health bar to nothing for a period is totally bullshit right or am I missing something? And there's a room of like 10 of them.

This game is filled with so much 1 hit KO bullshit in comparison to the others. Which by the way this enemy also actually has.

Wow! Thanks for all the suggestions, I'll look into all of them! I bet I have 1 or 2 of them from random bundles.

I find it interesting that everybody had their differences a I had no issue even as non ranged.

The crabs though...

If you've playedseen previous Neptunia games, it's more of the same - with some gameplay and visual imrovements. Personally, i liked it, but that doesn't say much, since i generally like Neptunia's characters and silly dialogue (which are the high points of these games for me). It's also a direct sequel to Neptunia ReBirth 3, so it's kinda expected from the player to know all the characters to fully comprehend the story (you can play it without experiencing previous games, but there will be some stuff that isn't really explained, like some references and characters).
EDIT: forgot to mention another great thing about this game - it has an outstanding OST this time around,
Thanks. I've never actually played any of these games but I saw it pop up on my steam Discovery queue.

Guys,

Is Dark Souls II SOTFS a good port? It's like 15 bucks and I'm quite tempted...

I wanted it on PS4 for a while...but now that I have a 4K TV I wonder if it would run 4K 60FPS with my GTX 1060. I guess it's bit borderline, I assume it would run 1440p without a problem, but if it handles 4K, it's a buy right away!

Yes, A 1060 should easily handle the game at 4K. I run it at 3200x1800 with a extremely stable 60fps with just a 970, so you should be fine.

I forgot to mention that its only a 3GB though.

Thanks! I assume it'll work fine, probably, if there's hiccups I'll just have to cut some bells and whistles.

No worries! I like this stuff too. I realized after posting that I can't actually swear that Kill to Collect has the unlock system you're looking for and I don't recommend it anyway. Neon Chrome is the better cyberpunk roguelite and if you want more cyberpunk after that, look at Defragmented over KtC even if Defrag isn't really a roguelite. It's more of a Hotline Miami clone with upgrades and loot.

And I can't remember if Starward Rogue does the unlock upgrades thing or not, but it's a Binding of Isaac clone in space so that's always nice.

Any input on the "Fever Dreams Bundle"? It looks to be full of some... unique aesthetic experiences.
That is an incredibly fitting name for their bundle, as they're barely playable puddles of bizarre sludge. If you want weird, you will certainly get your fill and then some. If you want playable, run for the hills.

In short, Neptunia games (and other Compile Heart games, like Mugen Souls and Fairy Fencer) are budget JRPGs with an emphasis on being silly most of the time. Small budget shows in reused assets between games (and sometimes in the same game), and general lack of 3D cutscenes - most of the story and dialogues are presented in a form of Visual Novel. Gameplay mechanics in these games aren't very complicated (although, in case of Mugen Souls one might argue that mechanics are over-complicated in that game :) ), but they can feel satisfying.
Despite low budget, CH games have some great voicework and music - voice cast of Neptunia games especially has some high-profile japanese VAs, english dubs are also considered quite good by people who prefer those :) And some of the music for Fairy Fencer and Megadimension was done by Nobuo Uematsu and his band.

I do love my bizarre sludge, but if it's locked behind that degree of unplayability maybe I'll pass, or just get one of them to give a shot.

Right posting in here as well for anyone who'd be interested.

I have a spare Dragon Quest Heroes Steam key that I'd like to trade if anyone's interested.
PM me if you'd like to offer a trade.

Man this sale has been the worst for me since years. This time I bought:

Europa Universalis IV
Total War Warhammer
Fable Anniversary
A bunch of DLC for CK2
Rocket League
Dying Light
Sengoku
Warhammer Vermintide
Age of Wonders 3

....
On the bright side, i dont have to buy new games for the next 3 years

I am tempted for Ori but then I remember people saying Child of Light is good.

Child of Light is a turn based RPG.
Ori is a metroidvania/action adventure game with a wonderful soundtrack.
Just blindly dive in, since you enjoyed the current Superman run, you might like the game's starting scene.

yo how ya'll feel about gta online

I'm thinking about it, buying it again on pc. But i'm told p2win is strong

playing with friends makes it bearable. it's amazing how they've supported it but that is because so many people are happy to buy the shark cards which are ridiculous. so unless you want to pay real money for in game items then you will need to grind a lot. i tried going back to it recently and had $600,000 well i still only have roughly that amount of money despite playing a load of missions. i already have an apartment/car and clothes/tattoos so i was just really spending money on keeping my ammo topped up. i felt like i was just going in circles and wasn't prepared to put anymore time into it. also the game should be retitled Loading Screen Simulator 2017. it's so frustrating having to wait all the time i just want to move onto the next mission or go do something else.

i've gave up on it. i played it a lot up until just after the heists came out. it's just not fun. i'm dreading what they do to Red Dead Redemption 2. i hope they don't ruin it like they did GTA V.

I am tempted for Ori but then I remember people saying Child of Light is good.

i'd go with child of light. i bought Ori because of how much everyone said they were enjoying it but i found it incredibly annoying and boring. visually it is beautiful but i ended up refunding it.

Is it just completely random what shows up in the activity feed? I bought Hitman and it didn't show up that I bought it, but a friend gifted me Nekopara and that did show up.

smh.

I believe the activity feed only shows items bought through Steam, so things you bought in the Steam store and gifts would count, but keys bought elsewhere and activated wouldn't.

Did you buy it from the steam store itself? Key redeemed games don't show up. Check your filters too.

Did you buy Hitman directly through Steam? Or did you get it from Gamestop or some other online retailer? Only games/software bought or gifted directly through Steam show up in your activity feed.

Ah that explains it. Yeah I got the Hitman key from elsewhere whereas Nekopara was a gift from the store itself.

I never finished the original Drakensang, but I did like what i played of it. Is it worth buying Rivers of Time, or should I finish the original first?

Is there a Winter sale trading card bot somewhere again?

I remember last summer sale I used one, where you can trade every card against every other winter trading card.

I have a lot of negative stuff I could say about GTAV but, y'know, Rockstar has added a few cool modes to online over the past year or so. I was very tempted to re-install to try out their Tron Lightcycle mode but, I've got other games to play and everyone I played with has moved on.

It's not really pay2win. More like pay2-have the coolest looking cars/bikes/jets/apartments/etc because the grind for money is stupidly long and quite frankly there isn't really enough engaging content to support it. Plus having hackers in almost every lobby with invincibility or spawning in tanks for themselves or whatever killed a lot of the fun I was having *fast*. Dunno if it's still like that though, this was like a year ago.

The fact that the "Welcome Back" package isn't available for those that didn't play the previous gen outings unless they go buy a last gen console and do the prologue killed it for me from the get-go. I bought it, installed it and haven't played it yet because of that. I'm thinking of buying (and then promptly returning) the previous gen version for those. :/

Anyone had experience of Flight Simulator X? I'm tempted, but recent reviews suggest it's buggy on Windows 10.

I bought it, but I haven't put enough time into it (mostly due to how complex it is). It runs/ran fine on Windows 10 for me, personally. But most folks say the same thing about other games, so YMMV. Most games that folks say are "buggy on Windows 10" run just fine on mine.

So i wanted to ask again, any recomendations for good and cheap anime and jrpgs / classic rpgs? Preferably with low pc requirements as i will have to play in a laptop.
Thanks for everything!
EDIT: no ff! I have already played them all so i would prefer something different though i do enjoy turn based systems.

Have you played Trails in the Sky?

I am tempted for Ori but then I remember people saying Child of Light is good.

I loved the aesthetic of Child of Light, and even the fact that dialogue is written in terrible rhymes, but its timer based turn-based elements system did not work well for me.

Basically, characters take turns based on time progression determined by their stats, and each action also takes a certain amount of time before they trigger, and can be interrupted if a character (or monster) is attacked before its action triggers.

However, the actual result of this is that battles later into the game become complete wipes, where either you or the opponent barely gets to do anything, since you or they are constantly being interrupted during the wind-up phase of actions, or they become long frustrating slogs to finally beat your opponent or get wiped. You can defend to avoid interrupts, which causes you to block one attack and then gives your next action a speed boost, but once you fight multiple enemies that both buff their own speed and debuff yours, then your followup action just gets interrupted anyway.

So if you play Child of Light, then I would strongly suggest playing on easy to avoid having to deal so much with the combat system.

someone gimme something to exploit the power of my beautiful new steam controller with

that isn't civilization
Titanfall 2

I know it's not on steam but it is fantastic with the controller

I love it for shooters so on Steam I'd say DOOM, The Division and Killing Floor 2 I had a ton of fun with this year using that controller. Spec ops the line is a good one too that should be cheap.

I do love my bizarre sludge, but if it's locked behind that degree of unplayability maybe I'll pass, or just get one of them to give a shot.
Well, if you want to stay on the lookout for them, keep in mind that their publisher, KISS, is a very active bundle publisher. The odds of Groupees having a KISS build-a-bundle within the next 6 months are pretty much 100%, so if you can wait, keep an eye out for that and you should be able to score all of those for like $1 instead of $4 and change. I'm not going to completely condemn them if you like weird, since they are indeed some of the weirdest on Steam.

Now, if you want delightfully weird and highly playable, check out Straimium Immortaly.
