Steam Winter Sale 2016 thread of hoping for better deals elsewhere

Girlfriend and I watched all the Harry Potter movies for Christmas so I decided to buy Lego Harry Potter. Also decided to buy Lego Star Wars after seeing Rogue One.

These are really casual games, obviously, but Jesus Christ have they aged well. I never played them before, they're pretty fun. Still look good, mechanics feel pretty modern, I would've easily bought these before if I knew they played like this.

My girlfriend doesn't play games at all, trying to find something she might like that isn't that difficult. She has 0 interest in Star Wars, but I could definitely see Harry Potter being a decent entry point.

So I grabbed Dark Souls II & III.

And Dragon Dogma, yep, just modded 'into free' in the title screen.

True version now.

yes the lego formula holds up pretty well. Not something you could mrathon, but fun now and then, and theres ton of them so its easy to keep it fresh.

I never played Final Fantasy IX. Im thinking I should fix that. My memories of FF IX are getting it on PS1, and it having black borders and me going "wtf is this shit" even way back then.

Which LEGO Star Wars did you get, The Complete Saga? I replayed that one recently, and you're right that it still holds up great.

Also, is your girlfriend interested in Batman or The Walking Dead? The Telltale games of those series might be great starting points for someone unfamiliar with gaming.

were they bringing Severed to PC or not, I forget. It would need to lose the touch stuff but you would think Drinkbox would put it on PC no?

Okay RimWorld is legit. Played the game for 3 hours with almost no breaks. I picked the benign storyteller so that I can learn the game but I'll switch over to the chaotic one soon to see what kind of shit can happen to my colony. It's the first dwarf fortress type game that has actually grabbed me. Definitely worth keeping an eye on.

Tales from blands and wolf among us are also worth getting

Definitely. Just picked it up from the sale and I already have 29 hours in it. Up there with Factorio and The Witness as the best and most addictive indie games I've played in 2016.

is Earth Defense Force worth getting? A bit expensive for an old(?) game.

4.1? It's pretty recent* and also pretty rad. Lots of guns, four distinct classes and lots of bugs to kill.

*Well the original version, 2025, was released in 2013; however the 4.1 version adds a bunch of new content, improves the framerate and was released just last year.

Yeah, Tales from Borderlands is amazing, but I couldn't recall how much it leaned on the series' lore.

Alright, this should be the stopping point for me:
ABZU
The Age of Decadence
INSIDE
SatelliteReign Deluxe Edition
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege
Watch_Dogs2
Pony Island

Any thoughts on Deponia? Any game out there that are similar?

I personally enjoy the deponia games, but note that you play as an anti-hero, some people do not like that.
I'd heartily recommend Edna & Harvey: The Breakout. One of my favourite adventure games about a woman trying to escape from an insane asylum accompanied by her talking teddy bear. It's charming, bizarre and incredibly funny, and only 1,49€ right now.

U dont need to know anything of the blands setting to enjy it
I never played blands before playing tales and loved it

I don't know when it'll get its turn though. I plan to finish Dishonored 2 and INSIDE this weekend.

you can finish it in about 2 hours. I did it in 1 sitting at work. Unless you get stuck in some of the later puzzles, I hear some people have triuble with them but I didnt think they were particularly hard, and im a puzzle dumb dumb

also, speaking of Early Access / Episodic games, fucking Kentucky Route zero still isnt finished? Like are you serious? :/

KZ0 is worth the wait.

Have you played for 2 hours straight at work? Hmmm.

Dont be jelly Wok

There's alot of people in my friends list that dont have that Minion Masters game, I thought everyone would have it from all the extras they sent, does anyone want one? You would literally be doing me a favor since its clogging my iventory

I absolutely loved Episode 1 (hey I lied earlier I do sometimes play episodic games before they are done) but the relese schedule completely killed all momentum. Ill replay all of it when its over.

Xanadu Next is a bunch of fun. Kinda wish Falcom would take the foundation and made a loot game out of it.

Also must resist buying that remaining Hitman episodes.

They are point n click adventure games

Similiar in graphical style, or games that plays like it?

Either way, you're probably going to find the most help here: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1164171

Thanks for the replies. I have no problems with being the anti hero, I actually think it's quite interesting for what it may deliver, so I'll buy it.

also played episode 1 of BTTF. Wait that was the full season, I just didnt play the rest, nvm >_>

edit: about how long are the Dishonored DLCs? I really need to play them so I can uninstall it. Well I mean I need to play them cause I herd they are great and I loved Dishonored, but the free space doesnt hurt >_>

Yep, the complete saga.

Telltale's The Walking Dead is in my top 5 games of all time (can't wait until payday so I can dive into season 3), would love to play through that with her but she doesn't like anything horror related. I haven't played through Batman yet, but that might be a good starting point too (and now that I think about it, maybe even The Wolf Among Us). She liked Guardians of the Galaxy, so I might wait for that as far as Telltale goes. How is Game of Thrones? I know it's considered to be the weakest/one of the weaker Telltale games, but she likes that series.

It not that you play an anti-hero but that the main character is deliberately made to be unlikable. Some times it's michevious fun but other times the main character is kind of an asshole. I wanted to like these games as they have a great artsyle but I wasn't into the humor much of the time or the puzzle (it's an adventure game for sure).

But plenty of people like it so I hope you enjoy it.

Picked up the Scholar of the First Sin upgrade for DS2 and Dragons Dogma.

I haven't played DS2 since it came out so it'l be cool to see what has changed.

Man, what is up with having to wait a week to be able to trade the items you get from crafting a badge. Ridiculous.

It's actually tied to buying them from the market, if you've had the cards more than a week the crafted items won't have that restriction. But if even one still has the restriction you will.

This is a scheduled automated repost on behalf of an anonymous benefactor, who is running this raffle.

That's not too bad. I changed my phone and now I can't buy or sell anything on the market for 15 days. Only 2 chances left to get that final winter sale trading card.
