"Emotions" is one of the most difficult songs in the world to sing. Which is why she had the track pre-recorded.

If she couldn't hear herself, there was no point to attempt those pitches.

I can certainly understand that, but then she didn't even attempt to put in a decent lip-synching performance for the second song, which was entirely a lip-synch. I mean come on.

But she kept on forgetting what she wrote down.

The whole crowd goes so loud.

She opens her mouth but the words won't come out.

She's chokin' how! Everybody's jokin' now!

The clock's run out, time's up, over, BLAOW!

holy shit xD

The Russians clearly hacked her soundboard.

First our Democracy...then Mariah Carey's vocals.

This can't be allowed to stand.

Was she unprepared and didn't know there would be no vocal track, or did someone mess up and forget to play the vocal track?

I guess from the other videos, it's the latter.

From what she said, her monitors- which is how singers can hear themselves while signing in a stage setting- failed, and she refused to even try. There was a partial vocal track for some of the hardest notes and she was just babbling right over them.

Then for the second song, the entire thing was going to be lip-synched, and she didn't even attempt to do a decent lip-synch of it.

I think her sound monitors weren't working. I heard her mention it. Could be utterly infuriating for a singer. Especially if she's already a little tipsy.

When a singer doesn't have proper sound monitoring during a performance they literally can't hear themselves over the music and singing on time/on key is EXTREMELY difficult.

Here's a novel idea -- don't make and/or perform a song you can't actually sing.

For those who need a palette cleanser and much needed reminder that some of the greatest pop vocals of all time belong to Miss Mariah "Don't Know Ha" Carey...

21 year old Mariah belting the ever-loving shit out of "If It's Over (My Career)" at the Grammys.

Probably one of the greatest Grammy performances of all time.

That said...Lawd hammercy sweet baby Jesus honey boo-boo kitty CHILD this was a MESS. Deadass. Gurl...

You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become a meme....

I don't expect live versions of songs to sound like the recorded versions. It's part of what makes them special anyway.

Who cares if it's a hard song to sing. Make it your own on stage.

Damn, that was brutal.

Talk about a downhill slide. She looks completely coked out since Packer gave her the heave ho.

Why did she stay on stage ?

I don't understand.

She could have left the minute she realized they were using the instrumental track knowing full well she couldn't sing. Everyone would have thought she was drunk or that there was a technical failure and everyone would have forgotten about it after a few days. But now ... now ... this is going to follow her forever.

A mix of frustration/importance of the event/attempt to salvage

Unless she had the intention of giving back the check they gave her, they would have just shoved her back on that stage or she would be in breach of contract.

All I took away from this is that Mariah is still looking on point. Damn.

Maybe in another life.

When it first happened I tried to refresh my stream on the CityNews app twice and was like "wtf this app is never out of sync."

Then I realized.

because Nick Cannon is a lame ass goofball.

Ain't no party like a Nick Cannon party 'cause a Nick Cannon party comes outta nowhere and you're thinking, "damn, when did this happen?" Then people start to leave the party and you assume it's over but before you can grab your coat the party starts back up again and you don't know how or why. Who's hosting this party? Who paid the DJ to stay an extra few hours?

Yeee-ooouuuch. That was hard to watch, the whole 4+ mins. And how she said "that was..aw...amazing". She was definitely searching for "awful" but bit her tongue. And 2 minutes later just walked away, not giving a shit. And also not giving a shit about keeping up the rouse of lip synching.

Tomorrow her reps will be like "Mariah was dealing with a cold and flu-like symptoms, in addition to audio issues".

Em was dissing her from the past this whole time
