Sony Playstation: First Party Studios & their Current Projects

Alright, we're 5 months out but someone earlier in the thread started it. Anyways:

- Open with SP's new IP reveal, trailer + gameplay. Sci-Fi + TPS, graphically incredible. Comparisons made to Star Wars 1313. No release window.

- Transition into God of War gameplay. Huge boss battle, QTE's, makes it looks like a traditional GoW again. The reveal is a player switch to the son for finishing off the fight. March 2018.

- Days Gone gameplay, using a zombie herd to infiltrate an enemy camp. Looks cool, but pretty standard. Fall 2018 release date.

- Marketing deals. Destiny 2, RDR2, AC: Empire, COD etc.

- Live Spider-Man gameplay demo. Physics-based web-swinging returns, combat system similar to Batman games. Looks amazing, releasing February 2018.

- Death Stranding trailer 3 leaves us even more confused than the second trailer did. No gameplay, no release window.

- Closing with a game that needs no introduction. TLOU2 gameplay. Eyes melt, minds blown. "2019"

Pretty spot on.

Most of these predictions seem pretty reasonable (though I doubt there will be Last of Us gameplay), but I seriously doubt that Days Gone is still 22 months away.

If you can legit do that in Days gone I'm so fucking sold. Especially when you see how large the hordes can be.

Kojima never disappoints

except when Konami made sure of it

Yep.

You people are always hyped to the point of "Company X never disappoints!", then I see threads worth of complaining about incomplete story, terrible female representation, shit pacing, mediocre gameplay and shallow characters. It's fucking hysterical, you guys having expectations of what the game isn't trying to be, or have goals which were never going to be achieved in the first place, then being disappointed. I get hyped as hell for many games, but I never get disappointed over them because I keep expectations in check and remain open if the devs prefer to take the game on a new direction over its predecessors. Or perhaps sometimes, some of you actually don't feel that strongly about it, but since it's GAF, you're free to express hyperbole.

/end rant

Oh yeah, I love Kojima, but I give a blank check to no one.
This, I agree with. ND is my favorite developer, but if they are really going to turn Savage Starlight into a game, I would have similar skepticism until we see more of it. To the same extent, MGS is one of my favorite series and Kojima has yet to disappoint me, but I've been skeptical of Death Stranding since its reveal.

Anyone who says the gameplay in MGSV is mediocre probably didn't play the game

And your doing it wrong. Let the hype consume you. I stayed up all night practically sometimes thinking about MGSV in the weeks before it came out. I'm gonna do the same with Death Stranding

The hype, through trailers and leaks or whatever, leading up to Kojima's games is a part of the fun for me.

Mediocre gameplay wasn't extending to MGSV, although I've seen several people claiming so. Why do you think I no longer care about what most on GAF thinks? ;)

Anyway, I'm not saying it's wrong to be hyped, you can be hyped to the high heavens. I certainly was for Uncharted 4. But when the game released and it had slower pacing and less, but more grounded action than previous games, I accepted that ND was trying something different and it became my favorite game in the franchise.

Heh, I thought you were referring to MGSV for all those

And hey, Uncharted 4 is my favorite in the series also. I didn't actively post on gaf until around August, and I didn't even realize people had issues with the pacing until then. I loved it!

To be fair, I wasn't referring solely to you guys in this thread, but GAF as a whole. Most people have unrealistic expectations and their own wishes cloud their judgement of what the game is trying to achieve. Then, after a while, we get a dozen threads whining about the game. It's ridiculous, I'm so tired of this particular attitude of GAF

Less than 9K views left for God of War.

Exactly! F it! If things don't turn out like you wanted, oh well. If it delivers and even possibly exceeds though, oh boy!
That's the difference between me Nd the internet I suppose I hype something it doesn't live up I move on. Internet? Meltdowns, bomba, close the studio whatever else nonsense they come up with meanwhile game Probably has like a 80 on meta but it isn't high enough or something lol ppl are weird

Yep, the exact same for me. If a game doesn't meet my expectation, I'm not going to look into performing voodoo to hurt the studio on a spiritual level lol. Just move on. There are too many games announced and released to get hung up on one game.

Yeah, a lot of people do hate things that are really good but not 10/10 GOTY GOTG that they hype it up to be, but whatever. Different people have different ways of hyping themselves

Me personally? I hype myself to death for many games, and if they come out and they're good but not mind-boggingly amazing, I enjoy it as a good game

Edit: and everyone make a bunch of YouTube accounts and watch the God of War trailer. I'm hyped like crazy for what will inevitably be nothing!!

Well, I'm glad you guys get my point and share similar thoughts about what to expect from games, at least. Far more often than not, most complaints on GAF rely on hyperbole rather than the constructive variant.

As for God Of War, I'll watch the trailer again later in the evening. I have classes now, damn it!

We all hate hyperbole no denying that.

Now more importantly can we all click on the gow trailer so we can get a new screenshot.

And more important than that can we start bombarding Shu for ape escape 4

And ape escape 3 ps2 classic for Christ sake!!

QFT. Also lately I've seen dudes post a shitpost and bail out from a thread to rile people up

It's nothing new, really. People have been doing that for a really long time, but I have noticed that it's been more rampant lately because there is always one game at least a vocal minority hates no matter how good it is.

Just keep pulling it up and exiting out while you're in class

Something it feels like there's no difference between trash like gamefaqs and neogaf

Not sure, but I've pulled it up on my phone just to stop it several times today. It's worth a try!
Gotcha, will try later, so we can make Cory keep his word!

Something it feels like there's no difference between trash like gamefaqs and neogaf
Haha, I've said this many times. Hell, I've gone further and said GAF is worse than YouTube comments at times. You'll be surprised than sonetimes even YouTube have comments that are actually worth a thought.

I normally don’t do this, but might as well since I just did an Xbox one earlier.

  • Spiderman gameplay reveal/demo. Extensive. Official title revealed. 2018.
  • Shawn Layden speech. Focus on games, etc etc. Lead into next announcement by hyping WWS & new IP.
  • Sucker Punch new IP reveal. Similar to Horizon original reveal. Sci-fi. No date.
  • Days Gone gameplay demo. Showcase open world & systems. 2018.
  • Dreams ‘campaign’ gameplay reveal. Show how traditional games look like upon completion of creation. Beta drops now. Fall 2017.
  • Trailer & release window update for: Uncharted, Knack 2, Detroit, GT Sport. Detroit will be 2018. Rest will be Q3/Q4 2017.
  • Third party trailer segment for: Battlefront 2, Hitman S2, Amy Hennig’s Star Wars, Lego, Crash Bandicoot, etc. No Red Dead at E3. No AssCreed as it’ll be at Xbox.
  • Third-party segment with more extended look at some games.
  • Call of Duty 2017. Single-player gameplay demo. Not Advanced Warfare 2.
  • Destiny 2. Co-op mission gameplay demo.
  • Shenmue 3. First official gameplay reveal. Delayed to 2018.
  • Shenmue 1&2 HD announcement. Fall 2017.
  • PSVR segment. Will talk up success without numbers lol.
  • New PSVR WWS game announcement from new Manchester Studio.
  • Trailer update: for Farpoint, No Heroes Allowed VR, Modern Zombie Taxi Company, Starblood Arena.
  • Third-party indie PSVR montage trailer.
  • No AAA big-publisher new announcement for VR this year. RIP big-publisher support.
  • Andrew House segment. Blah blah blah games & Kojima love.
  • Death Stranding character reveal trailer #3. Female lead. Famous actress. No gameplay yet but trailer will be framed to hint gameplay systems and world. No date.
  • FROM Software x Japan Studio new IP reveal. Will seem like Bloodborne 2 at first, but later shown to be a new Souls-like set in a different fantasy setting, now with giant mecha armor. Escaflowne-like. Spiritual successor to Demon’s/Bloodborne. No date.
Now, here’s where I feel there’s two possibilities.
Option #1: TLoU Part II not ready for E3.
  • Closes with God of War gameplay demo with set-piece,fights, big reveal. Fall 2017.
Option #2: TLoU Part II is ready for E3.
  • God of War gameplay demo is moved up to first-half of conference, next to Days Gone.
  • TLoU Part II gameplay reveal. Showcase Ellie with Joel, killing dead Joel theory. Shows new mechanics & bigger world…. Fall 2018. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Pretty solid predictions, Nightingale, I pretty much agree with all of it, except the last bit. I feel even if TLOU2 is a lock for Fall 2018, and I believe it is, Sony won't announce it because of the "DelayStation" memes. That's more than a year out and delays can easily happen. I think that beginning from last E3, Sony will only give a firm release date, at most six months before the game is out.

I can see Guerrilla Cambridges starting off the show w/ Killzone.

A Killzone reveal at the beginning may not have the same WOW factor as the GOW reveal @ 2016 or TLG @ 2015 but a new Killzone on the updated Decima engine might get that KZ2 level hype train going.

Then close it out with SP's new IP at the end with a 6-8 min gameplay demo. Sony shows the confidence in SP to close out their show
and carry them off into the sunset as back-to-back-to-back E3 champs. Vision it.

Everyone seems certain that Guerilla Cambridge is making a new Killzone and, given the hiring details and a logic of creative conservatism, I see why that's the assumption. If I were betting on it, I would also put my money on a new Killzone.

That said, I feel like it could also be a new Resistance. Any reason why this is out of the question?

nice

btw, the most surprising fact to me about Toyama is that he is only 38 years old. I thought he is much older :) Ueda, for example, is 46 years old.

also his record is pretty good too:

Snatcher (1994) Graphic designer
International Track & Field (1996) Character designer
Silent Hill (1999) Director, writer, background designer
Siren (2003) Director, writer
Forbidden Siren 2 (2006) Director, designer, writer
Siren: Blood Curse (2008) Director, designer, writer
Gravity Rush (2012) Director, designer, original concept, initial story
Gravity Rush Remastered (2015) Director, designer, original concept, initial story
Gravity Rush 2 (2017) Director, designer

I really hope he returns to horror in his next project.

Liking the E3 predictions, but I hope nobody (including Sony) forgets about Dreams. I expect that will be out later this year, around August - September before the crazy Autumn rush.

Hopefully Bloodborne 2 will be revealed at E3 this year as well as Sucker Punch's new game. If we get those two along with lots of new info on Dreams (as above), Crash, Days Gone, God of War and Spider-Man along with some release dates or release windows I'll be pretty satisfied. I'd also like some kind of assurance that SSM are not abandoning their indie support initiative altogether. Hopefully Japan Studio are also still partnering with indie devs like they have done for Rain and Tokyo Jungle as well.

And hopefully that'll leave at least one new first party reveal for PSX as well. I honestly wouldn't mind if Sony ejects Gamescom or Paris Games Week altogether if it means their E3 and PSX conferences are more packed and exciting. TGS tends to be pretty busy with third party stuff which are often de facto exclusives, so I don't mind if the first party stuff at that show is pretty minimal.

If resistance is a multi million seller than sure but I imagine they'd want to use a game with a bigger and still relevant name, plus killzone vita was something they got alot of praise for

Ok, Im in for the early E3 bets

-New Killzone by Guerrilla Cambridge introduced with gameplay, its a semi-reboot
-Sucker Punch new IP revealed with Gameplay
-Pixelopus new game gets a trailer and a date for 2017 still.
-Detroit also gets a quick trailer, with a date for September 2017
-Same for Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, which is coming in August 2017
-Spider-Man gets a gameplay demo and its official name is revealed, no date tho
-Third party kicks in. Warner has a trailer for either Shadow of Mordor 2 or their WB Montreal Batman game. Capcom announces a new game on stage, its finally DMC5. Sledgehammer CoD is shown, but at that point we already know what it is (WW2 is back), Ubisoft shows a bit more of AC Egypt, EA shows a bit more of Battlefront 2 campaign and this sections closes with a big Destiny 2 gameplay.
-VR starts. Trailers for Farpoint, Starblood Arena shown, along with third party stuff. Only one new game by SIE announced for PSVR.
-Getting close to the end and the final announcement of the day is indeed Bloodborne 2, dated for spring 2018
-Show ends with a God Of War gameplay showing some huge ass set piece

So there it is, no RDR2 (delayed and R* allergy of E3 is in effect), no TLoU II (will get gameplay debut at PSX 2017), no Kojima (go make that game Hideo)

Ah, no GT Sport because I think it will be out by then (or somewhere around that)

I think from hints and whatnot GG Cambridge are taking over the Killzone franchise (great news because Mercenary was superb and I'd love an HD remaster), but if they are they probably won't have anything to show this year. Assuming it was in pre-production and they moved straight onto it after RIGS, E3 next year is probably a good bet for a gameplay reveal and extensive info.

still 6 months to go but we have already so many potential titles to be shown. Incredible

Hype has started.

I really hope, SSM is still working on that cancelled game. I can't believe 250~ people working on GoW, there have to be another team working on something else.
