I have no desire whatsoever to pre-order it based on that conference. I'm going to stick with Zelda for Wii U, but I do want that Mario game eventually and I'll want whatever Retro is working on.

This is me. I'll probably get one used later and I expect a total repeat of the Wii U. Over-priced hardware because of misguided tech, long draughts of nothing to play, crap 3rd party support after first two years, great games - eventually.

Those $50/each joycons are going to be a parent's nightmare. The controllers are wildly expensuve and i dont think the HD rumble will justify the cost

Anyone who is into stocks that can explain this? Are investors slightly disappointed or super disappointed?

SUPER.

jk i don't know anything about stocks.

Group of 5 people dead set on getting the console before the presentation now range from a tepid "maybe for Mario at Christmas" to "Fuck that".

Just looking at what I'd be paying for a Switch, Pro controller and Zelda in Canada I think I'll be passing on the system until something huge like SMT comes around.

I wanted to buy this thing day one, but that presentation made me want to wait until Mario comes out. At least then it'll have some games I can buy.

I kinda feel this thing should have launched in the Summer. At least you'd have Zelda AND splatoon. But right now your average consumer isn't going to spend $300 for one game.

they had random japanese developers come on stage and say "someday maybe, we will make a game for this console. Thank you for your time"

Suda and Nagoshi isnt exactly random and Suda clearly said that he will make A Nomore Heroes Sequel (which is a Wii fab favorite)
I never understand the hype for a launch line up. The thing is...one year later, everyone is just remembering one or two games of it. Who remembers the Wii launch games? Wii Sports, Zelda and...ahm...yeah...there were some games nobody bought.
We need a lot of games but over the year and not just at launch.
I mean. What was the line up of the Xbox one?! I dont even remember!! People focus to much on it.
And i think a lot of publisher said "nope, we won't compete with Zelda at launch. Should we sell only 200 copies?"
For me that is a big problem...launching with such an juggernaut like Zelda it is hard for the competition to get any attention. :/

Excitetruck , elebits and Trauma Center were all brilliant

Got a Best Buy preorder in. Store pickup so I'll just stop and pick it up on my way home from work on launch day. Might cancel if I can get an Amazon preorder tho.

Yeah, if people cared about launch line-ups so much no one would have bought a PS4

Even though I'm excited enough for Bomberman and Puyo Tetris to pre-order the system, the launch line-up is pretty awful if you're not a Zelda fan. I'm surprised they couldn't even get Mario Kart 8 Deluxe out by March.

Any mention of the switches media capabilities outside games?

Apps? Netflix, Hulu, Amazon prime video?

I'm needing a tablet for work, I travel for work and spend 2-4 weeks in Australia 4-5 times a year. I have room for a device but if this doesn't double as a tablet replacement then it's a con for my use.

I'm just lucky that I didn't watch the conference from what I've been hearing. They had the perfect opportunity, & they botched it.

I ought to save enough money to take a plane trip over to Tokyo, go over to their headquarters, & slap the shit out of each & every one of those that were present there.

The constant lack of gameplay for many titles, the overall thin lineup, and the price being too high reminds me all too much of Sony E3 2006.
It was that hard to watch.

Nope. Just get an iPad. It'll do better than 2.5-6 hours. You'll get 10 hours.

The price is a bit of a disappointment in principle since 250 is the Magic Zone for a cheap Nintendo console to get 1st party games. However, it seems to be a death of a thousand cuts problem; there is a lot of small things in the Switch that add up fast, particularly the two wireless controllers with significant hardware inside them.

For me personally I don't care because Zelda looks really exceptional. Some may need to stop and realize the Switch, over the long haul, represents a major change for Nintendo. They have to put all their software on it. Same goes for 3rd parties that supported the 3DS out of Japan. We already have SMT V coming to the Switch.

They got my hopes up early on but dashed them. Handful of games I want, and region free is good news. But I feel like everything else was bad.

The pricing is bad. The accessory pricing is absolutely horrendous. Charging for online play is pure bullocks. Most of the games still seem a ways off.

I'm more than content to wait a year or so, or longer if need be. Zelda is going to be on Wii U and is the only big Switch game I care about coming anytime soon. Maybe by then it will have taken a price drop and accessories like the pro controller will be available for reasonable prices, and Mario and Xenoblade should be out, among other things.

It will be the first Nintendo system since the N64 I won't be getting in the launch window.

I really don't have much confidence in this thing after the presentation.

It feels like Nintendo rushing out a half-baked idea before it's ready.

The complete lack of detailed info on the online/UI/etc is eerie.

I am in the same boat as you.

I cant believe this. I just cant believe they fucked it up this bad. THEY DIDN'T FUCK THINGS UP THIS BADLY WITH THE WII U FOR CHRIST SAKE

At some point it just feels like Nintendo doesn't get it and they're trapped in this tiny, myopic bubble.

I really feel other than Mario or Zelda, they've really dropped the ball with this console unveiling. An utter sham of an announcement and a really poor showing in just about every regard... Unless you're an RPG fan, I guess?

Holy shit... Wait for the Treehouse stream before jumping to conclusions guys.

There was lots and lots of games shown on that last segment, they will tell us all about them.

3rd parties have games too and now they can start hyping them.

Chill.

I will pre-order it when the store opens. I really want that colourful version if possible!

EDIT. And all the tech innit! Seriously, that is some space-age shit right there!

Most of what they've announced in terms of hardware, online and pricing have dulled me, but they did announce a lot of games that I'm interested in.

It's just a shame that almost every single one of them are scheduled for the holiday or have just started development. I was not expecting Mario to be this far away.

I'll keep my eye on Switch, but I know I'll be waiting for a while. The conference has made the Switch a lot more complicated than I was expecting it to be.

Nintendo should have just canceled Zelda for WiiU. Then I'd be way more tempted to buy the Switch.

On one hand, that'd probably help sell Switches, but it'd also probably risk burning bridges with their already pretty niche hardcore base that they rely on to keep going- so I'm not sure that it'd be overall worth it.

They probably just shouldn't have ever announced the thing as a Wii U title at all.

I feel bad for Laura, she's gonna get a lot of shit for the things she got wrong even if she got a lot of things right (no Rabbids, no BG&E, no Mother 3)

In the build up to the conference, I was considering a pre-order. Now I'm going to pass for the forseeable future.

The bad outweighs the good:

The Good:

Region free
Zelda for launch
Hardware itself looks nice to me, and the portable element fits in well with my lifestyle.
Mario looks fun - though the city segment does look unimpressive.
Glad to see No More Heroes return in some form.

The bad:

Too expensive
Unimpressive launch lineup with no surprises.
Mario is ages away.
Too expensive.
Paid for online - utterly unjustifiable given Nintendo's terrible online system and lack of multiplayer games.
No explanation of transferrable virtual console purchases from Wii U/3DS
Too expensive
Absolutely no word on Retro Studios game, and no Metroid (for god's sake, just get a talented studio to 'Sonic Mania' a 2D one into existence).
Given the 3DS/Wii U drought, there should have been more games!

What they should have done:

Cheaper
Free online
Bundled a selection of virtual console games into the system at launch to try and tap into some of the same success as the NES mini.
Have more ready for launch, even indie-developed Nintendo-licensed titles.
Mario Maker 2 with more content would have been tempting, as its by far and away my most played Wii U game.

So yeah, I'll wait.

Dull conference, I guess I miss the Reggie/Iwata/Miyamoto team, but man... I'm really hyped for the Switch! Zelda, Mario, Xenoblade, Splatoon, Bomberman, Mario Kart, Fast Racing Switch, all look incredible and creative. And we don't even know what some of their other fantastic teams are cooking up. I think the Joycons are cool, especially the coloured versions with the strap. HD Rumble is a cool polish to the system but it was weird they put so much attention on it. Paid online sucks, region free is awesome. Launch lineup sucks and is probably my biggest problem right now, but damn that Zelda trailer is irresistible.

Otherwise just being able to play all these awesome games on the go or in bed is a huge plus. I'm a big Nintendo fan so I don't have to be convinced to buy a Nintendo console, but yeah, for someone like me this seems awesome.

Wow, just wow. And i tought they have learned from theirs mistakes. The list of games available for the launch window is sad, very sad. And no Monster Hunter :(.
I know i will buy it at launch, but with this situation many people will turn their heads around.

can we retire press conferences now? sony was able to churn out two really good ones in 2016, but that's basically been it as far as actually getting people excited for stuff.

i'm not sure what the overall plan was for this show, but having it in japanese was the wrong move. it should have been a video reveal and tailored to each region. that said, pros and cons:

pros:

1. the initial flow of the conference was fine. there were a lot of bombshells dropped early that set the tone for something that was going to be filled with information. a lot of new information was conveyed about the joycons, and nintendo's vision for the machine is clear.

2. some actual surprises like xenoblade 2, fire emblem warriors, smt v - those are the sort of things i was expecting not to see in favor of mario kart/smash bros./etc

3. the actual trailers they did have were generally well put-together and zelda is a high note to go out on.

4. as far as content is concerned, i think they had a lot to show - even on the sizzle reel side there were a few surprises and things we hadn't heard of like minecraft, dbz xenoverse, etc.

cons:

1. the pacing was piss-poor and one of the biggest reasons this conference doesn't work. having devs stand and talk about why 1 2 switch is going to be a different experience or what makes arms great is a fucking waste of time. having people talk about games they might bring to switch is a bonkers thing to put in your presentation too. related to this - the fact that they had a bunch of third-party games, but showed about a second of only a couple, flashing by really quickly, was a bad way to create any sense of interest for the machine when that should have been a big bullet point. lastly, the tease for zelda went on way, way too long and lost a bit of its umph by the time we got to the actual reveal.

2. negatives don't have positives. paywall is bad and they should feel bad - but if there was anything positive to glean, it should have been mentioned, like the nes/snes downloads.

3. when is anything happening? there was no launch lineup showcased, there was nowhere to find this information - it just came across as barren. it reminds me of the wii u launch, except there are supposed to be a lot of games in the works for this thing.

overall it was pretty poor and painted a negative impression about the machine. while the first 20 minutes were informative and did a mostly good job of explaining the platform, the remaining 40 minutes resulted in confusion and lack of excitement for what was coming up.

Locked in at bestbuy but would rather get in at Amazon.

I got this one at best buy(It says TBA so wanted to be sure its the right one)
Nintendo - Nintendo Switch Console Neon Joycons

SKU: 5670100
Will still prefer gamestop since I have 193 to spend over there so waiting for them to go live..best buy is my back up plan so I can always cancel it

I wonder if the dearth of western titles left an impression on people. Skyrim, FIFA, Minecraft, Rayman Legends, and...? Nothing from Activision, nothing substantial from EA or Ubi. Microsoft will probably have the largest presence of any western publisher, right? It's just weird.

At least I got GAF meltdowns, as I was promised. Neither the presentation nor the launch lineup isn't necessarily going to show how well Switch ends up doing over its lifetime. We'll have to see how things go.

Never change. <3

It wasn't a great show but I don't get why GAF thinks the sky's falling. 3DS and PS4 had poor launch lineups and they ended up fine. Zelda looks head and shoulders above anything in those lineups. (Except, of course, Knack)
