North American Nintendo Switch Lineup

The lack of Retro tells me that Nintendo is holding things back for E3 as well. Everything about this tells me that Nintendo wants a small launch and will try and build momentum into the holidays.

It tells me Nintendo have a poor launch line up, nothing to show at E3 and the first couple of years will be incredibly rough.

I mean it could be "momentum" but we do have the wii u and 3ds as a guide and Nintendo would be doing everything they could to beat that perception.

It is a tough sell in my opinion. It'll still do fine of course, but there seems little reason not to wait for the first big price drop.

Zelda is all I'll be playing for ages so I don't care what else comes out, but I agree with the thought notion that it doesn't really 'feel' like the next Nintendo handheld does it?

I expected a lot more "HEY 3DS OWNERS, BUY THIS NEW THING BECAUSE...." announcements.

Lets make a market analysis for the games releasing on Nintendo's brand new console:

- 1, 2 Switch (A $60 minigame-based game that should be a pack-in)

- The Legend of Zelda: BotW (The savior)

- Just Dance 2017 (Late port)

- Has Been Heroes (I dont know what the hell this is and the name sure is stupid)

- Snipperclips (No ideia what it is too)

- Super Bomberman R (Looks like a smartphone port, is it?)

- Disgaea 5 Complete (I mean, it is Disgae, the niche of the niche of the niche)

- Puyo Puyo Tetris (This one has to be a joke)

- Rayman Legends (That Ubisoft support! I cant believe a 2017 console is having in its line up a 2012 release, they cant be serious wtf)

- Steep (One of the biggest stealth launches ever from last year, yay)

- Skylanders: Imaginators (The toy thing that is finally dying?)

- I Am Setsuna (An early 2016 JRPG bomba ready to explode again)

What an incredibly vast and diverse launch line up for your $300 console competing with two others at the same price with an infinitely better catalogue of games releasing in 2017 and much more powerful hardware. Heh.

Does Nintendo really think Zelda can take Switch on its back from March until the Holidays when Mario hits? They learned nothing at all...

1-2 switch is $49

So... Uh, guys... Steep is a online-only game on PC/XB1/PS4... I wonder if Ubisoft is mind-boggingly stupid to release it as a online only on Switch too, making it impossible to play most of the time in portable mode... That would be ridiculous but I don't put it past Ubisoft to be that dumb.

Yeah I can excuse a weak lineup with a massive Zelda game available. Ain't gonna be much time for other games really.

Rayman Legends though...nailed it Ubisoft. LOL

I appreciate this, NoA. Really I do.
I also think you're making a terrible mistake.

People bought Wii U's for Breath of the Wild. Same as you I'm glad that Nintendo aren't playing games with their most loyal supporters. I think showing a lack of care for them is a bigger mistake.

The fact 1-2 Switch isn't a pack-in and instead something they're legitimately charging $50 for is almost a new level of Nintendo hubris.

Welp, fair enough. Looks like I'm in the overwhelming minority but I'm thoroughly satisfied with what they showed today. Zelda looks phenomenal, Super Mario Odyssey also looks amazing, Xenoblade 2 is a sequel to my favourite game of all time, a teaser for a SMT game, SUDA bringing back NMH and a handful of other stuff. That's me set. Very much looking forward to this console, launch lineup could be better, obviously. But Zelda will very much keep me occupied for a while (at least until Persona 5, anyway) - overall very happy.

So, Nintendo officially lost me as a launch buyer. I'm not ready to pay 300€ for a system that has only one game for me, which I can also play on a system I already own. I will buy Switch when it gets cheaper.

I'm waiting to see the UK launch line up, but if it is the same as this then, Nintendo, this is one of the worst launch line ups I have seen.

I'm in it with Zelda, Disgaea, Bomberman, and Puyo Puyo...not blown away by the launch titles, but i'm happy with it.

I actually feel kinda bad for them.

What an abysmal launch lineup.

Horrendous, absolutely horrendous. At a time when Nintendo needed to knock it out of the park with launch titles as well.

It's going to be fun reading how people try to defend this.

I don't understand what they have been working on the past year or two because it certainly wasn't the wii u. I don't get it. If they can't make more games than farm out their IP's to people that would love to use them. I don't believe them that this will be any different from the wii or wii u droughts.

Lol at all the people complaining at this great line-up. There's nothing wrong with it, it has a great selection of games. Stop acting like other (old) console release lineups where something better it simply isn't the truth.

Nintendo has nothing to worrry about. Zelda will sell out systems and Mario will carry the holiday because there will be a lot more games by then.

And yeah Nintendo saved Retro for E3.

This.

I mean, really. Packing it in would be great. But expecting people to pay out more to see the system features is stupid. I'm a big Nintendo fan, but this is a stupid move and the launch line up is terrible for anyone who owns a Wii U.

EDIT: Nintendo is editing information in real time.

I thought they missed Christmas to make sure they had a solid launch line-up?

I was expecting at least of trinity of "Here's why you should buy a Switch" games at launch.

Hell, they should have just made direct Mario Kart 8 and Splatoon ports if they didn't have any other major games in the works for launch.

I mean the Switch will sell out at launch. Your scalpers and your die hard fans will buy it.

But right now I can see it on twitter and even here among Nintendo fans. Perception right now isn't good. And I'm still not sold on the 3rd party support. EA is only committing to FIFA. No Mass Effect, no Battlefield etc. like someone said. Not even a sports title at launch.

Why in the hell is Skyrim launching in the fall? This is why you shouldn't be stingy with dev kits. This is why you don't announce so soon because no one is ready. 3 months isn't any time at all.

There's no way you or anyone else seriously believed these games were coming, and spoiler alert, nor are any future titles like them. You've seen several games running by now, I think it's sufficiently confirmed this thing is barely a portable Wii U in practice. Expecting these AAA 100+ million dollar PS4 games on Switch is like expecting PS360 ports. The reveal is over, the dream is dead, it's a portable Wii U and you will be lucky to get third party titles that fit in that wheel house. Absolute best (worst) case scenario is you may see 1 completely hobbled, native 480p, dog shit port (think trying to shoe horn a PS4 game on Vita) to test the waters, which will bomb catastrophically, and that'll be that.

I would get Zelda BotW and Super Bomberman R.

But Zelda is still coming to Wii U so I guess Bomberman will have to wait until Super Mario Odyssey comes out.

Lol at all the people complaining at this great line-up. There's nothing wrong with it, it has a great selection of games. Stop acting like other (old) console release lineups where something better it simply isn't the truth.

With Zelda launching day and date with the Wii u version I can't see any reason at all to spend the extra 300$ for no other reason than to say I did.

I don't imagine there's a terrible ton of Zelda loving fans who don't have a Wii u anyways to make up much a difference.

They needed smash, Mario kart and splatoon day 1 of this things had any hope. Close the books. This is gonna be Wii U 2 sales wise.

The fact 1-2 Switch isn't a pack-in and instead something they're legitimately charging $50 for is almost a new level of Nintendo hubris.

The game looked like trash....hahaha. I would have enjoyed it for a bit if it was a pack in but $50 is insane.

I know the emphasis is playing without a screen, but CAN you play on a screen? How the fuck do you play ping pong otherwise?

I should also clarify that I'm extremely happy with this line up because, well, Zelda. That's all I need. I really hope there are some features that make it superior to the Wii U version

If that game wasn't going to be pre-loaded on systems, I expected it to come with an extra joycon at least like past Nintendo mini-game collections. Yikes.

This is a terrible launch lineup. I mean, from what I know of. I have never heard of Snipperclips and only heard the name Has Been Heroes today, but know nothing about it.

I've already commited to cancelling my preorder and waiting until Christmas/Summer. This cements that. Sure, I would be getting better FPS in Zelda but the game is still a Wii U game at heart so it really won't matter. Buying a PS4 Pro taught me that buying a console just for one game is silly at anything priced so high.

So a Switch for Christmas with Mario, Splatoon and Pokemon. Sounds great. A Switch on March 3rd? Nah.

Horrendous, absolutely horrendous. At a time when Nintendo needed to knock it out of the park with launch titles as well.

It's going to be fun reading how people try to defend this.

I mean, I find this line-up to be average all things considered. One massive game, possibly a GOTY contender, alongside two-three titles that are sure to chew up a whole bunch of my time? I'm in.

I'm more worried about software droughts and what comes after day one, and I hope they can honor their launch window for the titles announced cause 2017 looks stupid good in terms of Nintendo's titles if they can push out Mario, Splatoon 2 and Xenoblade 2 all in the same year.

It would probably be a smart business move to delay Zelda on Wii U but I guess this gives them more customer loyalty points and I honestly can't complain, Zelda on the Switch is still a way more attractive incentive since it will likely run better and I can also play it on the go.

Outside of a few console releases, ever since I've been gaming (about 36 years), pretty much every console/handheld launch line up I've experienced has been lack luster. The only consoles (mainstream) I cannot speak for through experience is the Saturn and the Xbox One. With that said, I am not surprised as the launch line up. As a matter of fact, I was expecting a rather by the book launch line up. A big title or two, and a bunch of filler that will capture the interest of the smallest of niches.

As for the software issues going forward with the switch, I think it's pretty much impossible to have a repeat of the Wii U as far as software goes (or lack thereof). Unifying software teams will almost be like taking the handheld and console libraries of the past and combine them (in their respective generations of course). If all of the stuff going around about how Nintendo is streamlining/unifying their teams...it would be easy to conclude that their software output would at least match that of the 3DS, maybe a little more as their console developers are under one roof as well. So IMO, software will not be the issue long term.

Gamers are just more about games, they are about utility and fuctionality. If you ask me, people are more about the latter than the former nowadays when it comes to purchasing a video game console. It's also my opinion that this is what Nintendo really needs to really fix. People aren't satisfied with just a gaming experience, they want a media box that plays the popular mediums...while maintaining a high level of power all in a 200-300 dollar price tag. It sounds like milking blood from a turnip...pretty much impossible. But that's where the industry is at this point, and Nintendo seemingly still doesn't quite get it.

I think people here are overreacting in this thread. Every console released has had issues from software, to hardware, and a combination of both. It's up to the company to see if they have what it takes to react appropriately. To see if Nintendo truly learned from the Wii U or not...if the Switch does indeed flop out of the gate, how will they react this time? We know how they reacted with the Wii U....not at all.

So Zelda is the only worthwhile title on that line up and it is available on Wii U hmm why spend $400+ to play Zelda when you can get it for $50 on Wii U especially when the graphics on Switch are not that different!

for me:

- The Legend of Zelda: BotW (that 130$ CE if i get it)

- Disgaea 5 Complete
- Puyo Puyo Tetris
- Rayman Legends

- I Am Setsuna (if physical)
