Ah, well people did predict that delay for season 2 last year. Still sucks that its happening but looking forward to it. Seems so far away.

On the bright side, Frequency was always intended to be a limited series.

Good job Blackish!

How did the football game do last night or will we not know that for some time?

No one (i.e. me) posted this two days ago, so here it is: http://www.showbuzzdaily.com/articl...-cable-originals-network-finals-1-9-2017.html

ESPN’s telecast of the COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFF CHAMPIONSHIP was huge, but at 8.00 it wasn’t quite as massive as last year’s 8.26. Once again the sports conglomerate simulcast the game on several of its other outlets, but we only have ratings for ESPN2 at 0.23/803K and ESPNU at 0.04/72K.

Yeah I thought 4 was more normal and I think the the OT for the show it was being discussed that someone else might be interested in picking it up. In early talks
Man Meets World on Netflix. Book it!

Or they could make Topenga the main character to have it fit more with the Fuller House messaging and make it Mom Meets World or something.

As someone who doesn't understand what ratings are good for what is Lethal Weapon good for a renewal? That's one of my favorite shows of this year it really surprised me.

It's just a damn fun show to watch. Also, any word on Timeless?

Does the thread title indicate Girl Meets World is cancelled? Disney Channel shows are rarely given more than 3 seasons anyway so it doesn't surprise me

They usually get four seasons unless they totally bomb. It's weird that GMW only got three seasons; probably the actors cost too much.

It depends for each channel. Lethal Weapon's ratings are good for Fox though. It will most definitely be renewed.

I'm trying to figure out what's going on with all of these shows.

Good Behavior on TNT just finished its first season two days ago.
Fargo is premiering in April, was just announced today.
The Deuce on HBO is definitely this year, possibly the first half?
Amazon's Jack Ryan, they just announced the pilot director last week.
Showtime's Purity is supposed to start this year, though likely later on.
Netflix/CBC's Anne of Green Gables was filming some time back, so it should be relatively soon!
Dirk Gently on BBC America has already aired, and could potentially be on Netflix if your region has it on there.

Saw Legacy is I'm assuming the movie, which is coming October of this year.

That's all I have/can find for now on the shows mentioned. Some of them are still just announcements and haven't had a ton of movement.

The Netflix Anne of Green Gables is probably coming really soon. They've been filming and editing for months. The showrunner Moira Walley-Becket (Breaking Bad, Flesh & Bone) posts set updates on her instagram every once in awhile. https://www.instagram.com/moirawalleybeckett/

ABC Dirty Dancing just announced the cast and premiere date of May 24th.

Medici: Masters of Florence is actually available on US Netflix right now. I've had it in my queue for at least the last month. I want to say the showrunner is the same guy that was on Man in the High Castle and then left. Not 100% sure

The Son premieres sometime later this year, but AMC hasn't set a date. They've released a few teasers.

The Mist was ordered to series by Spike, and starting filming last summer. Also TBA 2017.

The Alienist had casting announced in November. No premiere date, supposed to start filming "early 2017".

Tales from the Crypt is apparently on hold due to rights issues.

Mindhunter is TBA 2017; filming last year. Charlize Theron is a producer, not a star.
Thanks a lot for these updates guys! I've updated my spreadsheet with the new information.

I'm watching it now, it's REALLY fucking good holy shit
I'll watch the pilot later today! Now I'm really excited about it.

Godless was shooting in the fall. It'll surely be released this year.

Sky Arts has decided to pull the Urban Myths episode that would have featured Michael Jackson: http://ew.com/tv/2017/01/13/controversial-michael-jackson-comedy-pulled-after-uproar/

EW said:
Sky Arts announced Friday that it will not air a controversial episode of Urban Myths featuring Joseph Fiennes as pop legend Michael Jackson.

“We have taken the decision not to broadcast Elizabeth, Michael & Marlon, a 30min episode from the Sky Arts Urban Myths series,” the network tweeted from its official account. “This decision was taken in light of the concerns expressed by Michael Jackson’s immediate family. We set out to take a light-hearted look at reportedly true events & never intended to cause any offense. Joseph Fiennes fully supports our decision.” The episode was scheduled to air on Jan. 19.

Joseph Fiennes may support the decision, but I'll bet Stockard Channing, Brian Cox and everyone else who worked on the episode is kinda pissed.

Did someone ever explain why season 1 of GIRLS was so acclaimed and embraced by critics despite it not being that good?

First one past the post. Girls came out before Broad City, Insecure, or Search Party. There really wasn't a well written dramedy for millenial aged women around that time. Between Netflix and the current cable landscape, it feels like a new one crops up every week. But at the time I remember the frankness of it being refreshing to people. It was being looked at as Sex and the City: The Next Generation.

I think where this stumbles is that it's a very myopic view of the modern millennial experience. We're talking about a generation that is hyper aware of diversity, something that Girls was criticized for lacking. A show like Search Party leans into this better by having the characters be this group of social media obsessed narcissists. It's satire, but it rings a little more true, at least to me.

Just watched the first episode of A Series of Unfortunate Events, and unsurprisingly, its totally my kind of bizarre jam. Just read that not only does season 1 cover books 1-4 (right down to naming the episodes after the books) but its already renewed for a second season covering books 5-19, and knowing Netflix usually renews shit for proper endings (Marco Polo aside) a third season to cover 10-13 is almost sure to happen. Exciting.

Also Olaf is a huge cunt.

edit: it also reminds me a lot of Pushing Daisies, man I loved that show :(

*raises hand*

I know. I know.

Critics are pathologically unable to fairly asses HBO shows due to the fact that they once made some of the best shows on television. People should always assume their current shows are a fair bit worse than the critical consensus.

I think Girls S1 is pretty good. I think the value of the show is that you connect with the experiences of the characters. If they aren't your experiences, that you emphasize with this different life they lead. They don't face any real existential threat; their threats are their anxieties about finding a place in the world, self-actualizing, typical quarter life crisis stuff. In many cases they are their own worst enemies and their behaviour is self-sabotaging. That is asking you to relate.

I think where the show goes downhill after that is that it has relatively little to say and relatively few ways to develop the characters, so S1 seems to me to be all you need to hear the author's voice, the rest seem mostly superfluous.

Excellent production values, boobs, and cool worldbuilding.

Did someone ever explain why season 1 of The Leftovers was so acclaimed and embraced by critics despite it not being that good?

I don't actually recall many people liking the Leftovers in the first season. Did it have boobs?

Did someone ever explain why season 1 of True Detective was so acclaimed and embraced by critics despite it not being that good?

An engaging mystery, water cooler conversation potential, good execution of a frame story, decadent and beautiful visuals, hardboiled dialogue that's stupid enough to be hardboiled but smart enough to stay serious. Also boobs.

Did someone ever explain why season 1 of Westworld was so acclaimed and embraced by critics despite it not being that good?

Player piano covers of pop songs, beautiful outdoor shots, solid actors with intense stares, some "Emperor's New Clothes" elements of people not wanting to say a mystery is dumb if there's some chance that they're the dumb ones, the feeling of a puzzle unlocking itself. Also boobs.

Exactly my thoughts on the show. S1 was pretty good, but then I tried watching Season 2 and just couldn't get into it.

Mixed-ish reception, but a lot of critics adored it. A few, but mostly just Justin Theroux's gigantic sweatpants bulge.

Where is my mind
Where is my mind
Where is my mind

Same place as everyone else! Wondering if Theroux is about to cause the first onscreen Dick-Quake during his jogging scenes.

The quicker we all realize that everything is overrated the quicker we can all just die already.

Sweatpant bulges notwithstanding, the first season of The Leftovers gets cool once they realized Carrie Coon is damn great.
The single POV episodes in S1 were great. The ones trying to balance the entire ensemble, less so. S2 was a great example of accurately distilling what worked and focusing on that.
