Do you prefer the English or Japanese dub of the new Zelda BOTW trailer?

Japanese>German>IT/FR/ESP>English

Note: This list was based on the quality of Zelda's crying in the trailer:P

I'd probably play in Japanese with German subs (anime voice acting for my anime Zelda!), but I genuinely liked the German dub.

Japanese dub in this particular case, even though english doesn't sound bad.
I'm actually surprised that the game has even italian dubs.

I prefer the Japanese. I'm not usually a purist about things like this, but I thought the English dub sounded sort of amateur community theater.

The Japanese was melodramatic but it fits the aesthetic better. Feels Miyazaki.

I'm leaning towards the English dub because I can understand English.

Regardless, Japanese Zelda's scream was the definition of melodramatic

Listened to both and the english version is more natural and real. specifically the crying moment in the JP version is exaggerated. Maybe because I don't watch anime and don't japanese.

Completely agree. I guess people can't hear emotion unless it's so thickly applied and dripping down the walls.

LMAO

I'd like to know the correlation between people who like anime and people who enjoyed Zelda sobbing in Japanese more/thought the English was bland.

I liked both English and Japanese versions

Easily Japanese. The part that did it for me was when Zelda cried. I almost got a lump in my throat. English dub - nothing.

English was decent but varied by performance. That narrator sounded like she was doing a shitty stock "old wise person" affectation, that bugged me more than Zelda herself.

Jp voice acting is always annoying, so English for me. Weird to hear actual voice acting in a zelda game. After listening, that is some awful VA. Maybe they should have done the old way with gibberish and subtitle

Japanese VA had a lot more emotion, so if there's dual audio I'll probably go with that.

It didn't sound emotional to me. I got more emotion from the British voice. The scream is way over the top and melodramatic. British one sounds more natural and real.

I like anime. Thought Jp. Zelda's crying was a bit too dramatic for my tastes, but not that bad. English one was better by far to me though.

The whole thing is melodramatic though. It's weird if the direction and animation are very melodramatic, but then the voice-acting is like, low-key naturalistic. I didn't mind most of it but Zelda's crying in the English trailer did not match the visuals at all.

I would go firmly with Japanese, but the english was good. I hope there's a choice for both. If not, I like the idea I could import the japanese version later for a replay.

The Castillain spanish dub is amazing, some people at the eldoblaje.com forums are already trying to decipher the voice actors for it.
Seems like a lot of voice actors from the Barcelona studios of voice acting.
Theyare also acting really well in that trailer, even the old lady, and thats probably the inferior part of the voice acting, even if its not really bad at all.

The japanese is super good as expected, and even the rest of europe is getting pretty good voice acting it seems (really like Italian Zelda).

The english one is clearly the worst one. Worst parts were the old lady and Zelda's voices. I know a lot of people are criticising a lot the crying part of the english actress, but i think his worst part is just his meh voice and acting in all what she says. The "It was all for nothing" part is pretty jarring.
The King of Hyrule also has a super robotic sounding part (that i hope is becuase of how its cut and not the acting itself) when he says "You must save her, my daughter."

Also, you should pst this video in the OP

Hm.

English, because I can actually understand it. Both are fine.

The crying scene is more subtle in the English version, which is neither better or worse, but it definitely matches the somber tone of the music that plays in the trailer in that section.

Yeah I think that's what bothered me too.

I watch anime regularly and keep up week by week with new anime episodes.

But I'm also a westaboo in the anime community thread who is known to prefer HBO and western dramas vs anime drama. And I like the english VA because I am tired of anime voice acting.

On a side note the Wind Rises in Japanese is extremely jarring because they speak more normally than in other films/tv shows.

Japanese. The English voiceovers weren't very good, in particularly the old woman (Impa?) sounded too forced.

we're talking about forced when the Japanese VA was almost instructed to do her best old anime witch voice?

The English VO sounded a bit off to me. Especially the old woman sounded like it was from a comedy bit. You know, a thirty-something doing a purposely awful old person impersonation.

Japanese was fine but then again it's way more difficult to notice bad/hammy voice acting in a language you can't understand.

I like the over the top nature of the Japanese voices. It fits my idea of Zelda better. English Zelda sounds OK, but I don't really like the others; American accents in Zelda just doesn't sit right with me.

English in general. Zelda sounded fine and more "natural" to me than the over-the-top Japanese actor.. Anyone saying "atrocious" has never played the original Baiton Kaitos.

Liked JP, Russian and German weirdly. English was meh sounded stilted for me, couldn't feel the flow for the rest.
I also have 0 knowledge of Russian beyond dota 2 cursing.

Japanese in the trailer had more impact, but I'll be fine with only English for the game though. Options would be great.

Zelda in Japanese sounds like she just lost her world , Zelda In English sound like she lost just lost 5 bucks.

English Zelda sounds like she carried the emotion in much more natural and real way. Japanese sounds awful, so melodramatic and silly. It sounds like she's having a childish tantrum.

Japanese.

I hope the English version isn't indicative of the overall quality we can expect in NA. It was pretty cringe-worthy if you ask me.
