Colin was Right: Same Old Nintendo (Jan 19. 2017)

I often disagree with Colin, but here it's hard to argue, the software is thin unless you are ok with 1 game every now and then to play. Designs around the console and communication from Nintendo has been odd and poor. Price is also too expensive.

I am a PS4 owner since launch, and Playstation 4's launch was absolutely not better in terms of software than what is proposed for Switch. I would say they are equally bad assuming you exclude Zelda, which I think is an exclusion worth consideration.

ResoGun was literally the only game worth my time at PS4 launch.

As far as gamers are concerned, I totally agree with the following statements though:

too many ports
$70 Pro Controller is stupid
$80 Joycon set is stupid
$90 for a dock is stupid

What were his thoughts on the PS4 launch lineup?

A quick google search shows how wrong this is, sony has all the big third parties and massive indie support, Day 1 which meant it got vastly more games then Switch or wii-u.

which is funny because Colin himself used to repeatedly say that, even after bloodborne was released if memory serves

Probably similar to mine?

He was wrong, ps4 had a stead diet of third party games Nintendo doesn't.

Imho the switch has hands down the greatest title to launch with it in years,
Last one was the wii. Third party support will be weak all over again.
The console is not as powerful as the other consoles.
So third party games (AAA) will again be slim.
At this moment i hope you guys realize this won't happen ever again.
Talking about an overal weak launch lineup?
for hardcore gamers? yes.

Pack in bundle is bull tbh. You pay for the game just pick your own.
The ps4 had a weaker launch lineup imo.
Don't give me this battlefield 4 comment that game took 2 years to fix.
Did xbox one launch with KI3? That one was legit.

Online chat being tied to a mobile app hopefully filters annoying kids.
As i remember reggie was being super vague about online.
I hope they will pull a microsoft on us and change some of their plans.

Again wii u really pissed me off. That mario wii u game was a lazy rehash.
nintendo land was a weak mini game collection.
I have no found memories of that launch.

At least switch has great local multiplayer possibilities and zelda.
No switch is not perfect but i really hope they will turn things around.

Colin has some great points in his video but the overal tone is bit too negative, and one sided.

The point about what games companies are bringing over is what I thought.

FIFA?
Rayman?
Disgaea5?
These titles to me were toss ins the see how well the console will do. Costs the publishers some pocket change that won't hurt if lost.

Was clear that this console has a high chance that 3rd party wasn't going to be a thing really.

The first party software is actually pretty damn good for a year. The issue is that there is no info on third-parties to help fill that out. It'd be a great year had that not been the case.

Isn't an thin launch line up only problematic the switch was going to be the only console you own.

Colin Moriarty, the fool who said the Vita was set to succeed, and never ever says good things about Nintendo.

Also, a die-hard PS-fanboy... But, he has a point here.

Was motion really that innovative? I can't think of a great Wii game outside of Wii Sports that I want to play using motion control.

I guess we disagree on how enjoyable it was to use that stuff, and that's fine, but I just really did not like much of anything about the Wii, save for a few great games.

It's okay to like different things.

While sure the first year looks good but what about the next?
Development time and possible delays the consecutive years look dreary in terms of first party.

Not fully a fan of Colin, but he is actually right here.

Interesting tidbit: I've forgotten how sparse Nintendo's launch lineups have been in the past. This actually doesn't worry me then. They've had some amazing turnarounds in that case. SNES, N64, 3DS

Well its not like he is wrong. Its pretty infuriating that Nintendo still believes it exists in a vacuum they generally believe they are not competing. Price gauging consumers is also insane this is the same company that thinks Steel Diver was worth 50 bucks!

lol. And what baout the next after that? And what does 2020 look like? How can Nintendo expect us to buy at launch if we don't know what games 2022 hold for us????

Nintendo doesn't often announce games years in advance, so you'll hear about new titles for this holiday and early next year at E3.

Why does colin care so much about what nintendo does? He doesn't even like their games.

I wouldn't say that. Colin was / is a huge fan of NES / SNES Nintendo games. And I think he still holds them in a higher regard then any games since that era.

Anyways, if the negative sentiment about the Switch is going to trigger you then don't watch the video.

Just finished. I think this was his best episode yet. Articulated very well what the problems with the Switch are as it stands, and how Nintendo utterly failed to prove us all wrong and show us that they had learned from their past mistakes.

I also nabbed a pre-order for the Switch, but similarly feel like I might not be keeping it. I really want to play Zelda, and I really want to play Mario, but the wide gaps in software support between those two titles, and the uncertainty of that support moving forward, has me feeling like I'm better off ignoring the Switch until there is a better value proposition. I felt the same way about the WiiU when it launched, and unfortunately it just feels like we're headed down that same road again.

I hope we're all proven wrong, but I'm not optimistic at the moment.

Colin is pretty much on point, yes, it's early to predict but a lot of things not many can argue his points. Nintendo is selling you a ferrari with no engine, and no tires, all sold separately and the engine won't be ready until 5 months after its release.

Not sure why some guys are bagging on him Colins stated many times how much nintendo is important in the industry including in this vid.

Mario and Zelda—no doubt very big deals. Splatoon 2 would be a much bigger deal if the rumors didn't more or less point to it being a small revision of the original. Beyond that, you have what, Mario Kart and Smash ports with a smattering of new content, a Fire Emblem Musou, and Xenoblade Chronicles 2? In the first 12-16 months of the console's life?

And the games are the best part of the Switch announcements! The rest of it ranges, at least for me, from "eh" to "Jesus Christ what are you doing?!"

Look, I want to love the Switch. I preordered one. But the more I think about it, the more inclined I am to sell it and wait until the first bundle or price cut. From my point of view, the best move right now is to get one at the end of 2017, when more games have launched, more are on the horizon, and we have a better idea of what's coming.

Also, I am willing to buy into the notion that they have one or two more major announcements for 2017 up their sleeve, but I need to see them.

Switch hardware seems good
launch line up is abysmal
too many ports
X1 and PS4 launch line ups were actually good, despite spin
3rd party support is critical to hardware success
EA announcing only Fifa is bad
hand waves Project Octopath Traveler
thinks Skyrim isn't the special edition (which is incorrect, I believe)
$70 Pro Controller is stupid
$80 Joycon set is stupid
$90 for a dock is stupid
online services are shit
people still care about achievements/trophies
...does he mean just the one? (from Nintendo at least)
Also, the launch line up/first year is one of the better ones in recent memory.
Sure, Zelda is the only big game at launch, but between Launch and mario there's quite a bit of stuff to play in its first year (MK8 Deluxe, ARMS, Splatoon 2, FE Warriors)
Joy Cons are also two controllers in one...literally. Buy that and you're set for 4 player local multiplayer.
Pro Controller is expensive, though.

Outside of 2018's new/original FE, all the titles in the show were announced for year one. First 9 months.
There are around 9 confirmed first party titles for the first year with a few rumored like Rabbids Kingdom Battle and Pokemon Stars.

Sorry, to be clear: I'm not defending the Switch's launch lineup. I was just curious as I didn't think the PS4's was anything special and remember only getting Resogun at launch.

he comments on this in the video
I'll have to watch it once I'm off work, then.

I'm fading this off current releases in the past year for the wiiu granted it was dead already but did anything really noteworthy come from 2016?

And already they revealed like most of their heavy hitters for year one making me question how will the following year or 2 look.

Some of you questioning his ability/credibility to talk Nintendo sound really stupid.
LMAO yep

Talking point, talking point, talking point........ GOOD point?
This thread should be locked.
Why? Because he praised a failed console? Cmon

Same informations, much different tone: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=EXV0lJiryJc

Arlo is love.

The top comment on that vid, made by him;
I know that one very big source of disappointment is the announcement of the "rental" feature of the new online service, but I'm choosing not to comment on that until we know more. I've got to know everything we're getting and how much the service will be before I can make a decision.

A man with a puppet is more reasonable than 90% of the internet, that's where we are right now.

He didnt mention Skyrim, he said Fifa is based on the PS3/360 versions, which is correct.

They just announced Fire Emblem for next year. Chance are we will be hearing more around E3, and they are also clearly holding back WiiU ports for subsequent years, rather than blitzing through everything this year.

It's really silly to already be proclaiming that next year will be thin.
