And wasn't the prince in Twilight Princess more of a purple and grey? Not this downright red. These have shark heads too. It just looks like Zora have variations similar to how there are a million fish.

The Deku Tree specifically says "You don't any recollection of me, however," so he knows this Link. The only Link that could be is the Hero of Time. Are we going to say that he's been out between OoT and Zelda II? Seems unlikely to me.
Inconclusive. This could still be a new Link that simply knew the Deku Tree before Calamity Ganon appeared. Remember we're missing his entire story, Link is starting off "blank", but not "fresh" like in other games. The Tree is fully grown in flashbacks, not the seedling it was at the end of OoT. Zelda knew the Tree in the past (which she didn't in OoT), it makes sense that Link would have as well, he just doesn't remember.

that's quite a jump. I never got from the trailer that he knows THIS specific Link, but that he recognizes Link regardless of the version.
Or that he did meet Link, but he has amnesia.

Nailed it on the head. Link's past from 100 years ago is supposed to be a big part of the game and we have evidence indicating that a great deal of the footage of Zelda in the latest trailer takes place in the past via flashbacks, namely the scene where she interacts with the Great Deku Tree (who is clearly fully grown and not a sprout in said-scene).
I'm thinking this is may very well be post-AoL in the Zelda timeline.

DISCLAIMER: I'm basing the BOTW measurements on /u/EngineeringHyrule's math. It is evident that a small alteration in the base assumption (Link's height) can throw these measurements off. Upon the release of the game and the availability of more accurate measurements, I will revise this. Additionally, Witcher 3's measurements are based on the in-game mini-map measurements (m).
For Witcher 3's cities, I've measured the square/rectangle that surrounds the immediate city AND the surrounding populated areas.
For Novigrad, I have stretched the border out to the Outskirts/Farcorners/Seven Cats. For Beauclaire, I've included Lebioda's Port/Palace Gardens and part of the Belgaard Vineyard. Oxenfurt was more straightforward; not a lot of additional populated area - but I did include the university area which is relatively empty and only accessible in the Hearts of Stone DLC. Here's what I've got:
Novigrad Area: 0.64 KM^2
Oxenfurt Area: 0.15 KM^2
Beauclair Area: 0.40 KM^2
For BOTW, I'm looking at the Castle Town ruins that fall inside the 5 surrounding pillars (which form a pentagon around the town/city on the new Special Edition Map). I've also measured the Castle Town Island that is surrounded by water.
Castle Town Ruins Area: 0.60 KM^2
Castle Town Ruins (Island): 0.27 KM^2
Castle town island is smaller than Novigrad within its city walls (though similar if you discount the water in Novigrad's port). However, the setup of Castle Town is not entirely clear to us yet (particular pre-Calamity). It's possible that only the castle itself lies on the island surrounded by the moat, and the rest of the town is on the mainland. In which case the city/town region would be massive. If there are actual playable memory sequences, it would be exciting to go through a fully realized Castle Town.
We got a quick glimpse of Castle Town under siege, but its still difficult to tell how its made-up, other than the obvious focus on the castle itself being central.
Full maps for Toussaint and Hyrule. Credit to /u/TheLittleGoodWolf from reddit for the BOTW map (which is an overlay of the new Special Edition weathered map on the the EngineeringHyrule one mentioned earlier).

If it's the first time they're meeting it could be he forgot that this isn't the same Link.
But let's be completely real, it likely is that they met before the 100 year skip, and he has amnesia as he remembers the past. In 100 years a Deku tree sprout isn't going to go from tiny tree to gigantic motherfucker.

Yeah I really wanted it to be the Hero of Time but I think the evidence right now points to it being the latest in the downfall timeline and post Zelda II.
I'm reading the wiki for the Zelda II story and already I can see how some of it might fit together...

Anything can be explained by saying 'it's magic' lol. Regardless, sorry but it makes no sense for me that this game is set with hero of time. You're focusing too much on the great deku tree appearance, which can be explained as the sprout hundreds of years later, and not enough on the line that the history of hyrule is one of fighting ganon many many times. Which Aonuma said to focus on when saying where to focus to try to pinpoint its location in the timeline. Ganon only came forth IN Ocarina of Time. We'll find out when it comes though.

But then... why are you disputing my statement which said he wouldn't go from sprout to giant tree in 100 years? He was a sprout in Ocarina of Time, then consider how many years it would take for the next Link, and even then with fighting ganons many times even more Links. Him having met Link before doesn't mean he met him as a sprout.

Those timelines were caused by the ending of Ocarina of Time.
Adult Link left behind a timeline where Ganondorf broke into the Sacred Realm, killed the King, took over Hyrule, and was ultimately defeated and sealed away. Zelda then sent Link back in time to relive his childhood free of this apocalyptic future.
This created two distinct timelines. The future where adult Link had now vanished was left without a hero, and when Ganondorf returned the Gods were forced to flood Hyrule in order to save it. This led to Wind Waker.
Meanwhile Link returned to his childhood where he and Zelda were able to have Ganondorf executed, preventing him from ever entering the Sacred Realm. He then left in search of Navi, leading to the events of Majora's Mask, and much later to Twilight Princess.
Ocarina diverges into 3 different timelines "officially".
There has already been sightings of characters and symbology from all three timelines within BoTW, so theory that reunification is happening is looking true.
They're not doing anymore because the game is close to releasing

I'm so used to those symbols showing up along with their respective races they don't even register on a conscious level anymore.
It's like being surprised when Link has a shield with a red bird on it.
Yeah I think it's a straight up Zelda II sequel starring the original Link.

I think it's the best option. Make it a Zelda II sequel, and escape interquels. Hell if they absolutely wanted to, branch out this new timeline.
Maybe one for normal ending, one for true ending.
Zelda II sequel has been my assumption and desire from the start. I hope I'm reading the signs right like I did with the release date.
Whether it's a direct sequel or simply set sometime after I don't care so much. I think the overall chances of this being a Link we've played as is very slim, regardless of timeline placement. Even less so if this is a Post OoT game as there are just too many conflicts with that game to me.
