2016-17 TV Cancellations Thread: TNT finds "Nothing can come of nothing."

Really amazed that after 4 years ABC couldn't find anything to pair AOS up with. It's been marooned on an island between comedies and bombs before getting pushed to the 10pm death slot itself. CW built their superheroes up from scratch and expanded them accordingly, and it's paid off big time. It's just really weird to me that ABC would do a Marvel show and not capitalize off the genre in any way. I guess Inhumans could pair up with AOS but that's assuming it gets a 5th season. I've already seen it in syndication so maybe it's bringing in the cash.

Kind of would have guessed more for first presidential sitdown

Lethal Weapon continues to shine

Do I need to start watching Lethal Weapon? I was sure it would die a quick death like Rush Hour, but I guess I was wrong. How's the guy who plays Riggs? Damon Wayans, I know. But not the other guy.

If you use a VPN you might want to check out Channel 4's site. They have their own streaming section for foreign shows, most of them never shown on TV in the UK.

Yes!

I just find it funny that real TV critics basically advocate doing the same. To me it's like when Giantbomb talks about loading SNES games on their phones via emulators, but that's a whole other discussion.

It's fine. I would say it's on par with Rush Hour in terms of being a generic cop show, but it has much better leads. It also doesn't need a completely convoluted set up to explain why the characters would be working together, which helps.

I don't think they're quite minutes away, but given that they're portrayed as going to directional state college it's quite easy to assume that it's only about an hour away, which isn't actually that far.
I guess next year Axel will just find a job in Orson and they'll still be together.

Unfortunately subtitled stuff tends to do super poorly in the US.

RIP Sundance

Then again, maybe if someone aired Skam it would catch on over there as well. Jesus that thing got big. And it ruined all my jokes about how fucking terrible Norwegian TV is.

Aren't they doing a US adaptation of Skam?

It amuses me greatly that a show with Mo Rocca is in their "popular series" category. The gay agenda is alive and well (and sneaky).

ha

RIP Sundance
Les Revenants had at least twice (and for some episodes five times) the amount of viewers in the UK compared to the US.
Deutschland 83 had thirty-two (32!) times the amount of viewers in the UK.
I can't find the UK ratings for Gomorrah, but it didn't do super hot either. (~100K viewers)

Sure, but here we live in a post-Skam world.
The third season premiere was the most streamed thing ever for the public broadcaster.
Adding to that there is the articles. The quizzes. The guides to Norwegian slang. The podcasts. The fashion guides. The memes. The everything.

It's a bit weird how the most culturally relevant and hip thing in Scandinavia for teens is coming from fucking public broadcasters.

And the US version is probably going to end up like the US version of Skins, a tame, pale imitation which won't find an audience. I don't have a lot of faith in the idea.

Love season 2 march 10th, I still need to watch season 1 :/

I don't know what the situation is in the UK, but most/all of the subtitled shows in the US air on obscure channels that get awful ratings anyway. Maybe if NBC or ABC took a crack at a subtitled show, it'd fare better?
I doubt by much though :/

Damn, PBS better step it up! (before Trump defunds it and/or turns it into his own personal propaganda machine)

I bet it ends up on Nickelodeon or Disney XD or something.

Well that was sudden. I was wondering when they were coming out with season 2. Season 1 was pretty good, if a bit too cringey at times. The scene where Gus is in the writer's room was very hard to watch.

Is Lethal Weapon legit good? I'm surprised by the ratings but is thinking of giving it a go. Does it have much in common with the movies?

The show went super quiet since it debuted, and here comes the new season! I ended up really loving a lot of it (though some parts, not so much), so I'm excited for more.

It already had a second season announced from the beginning, so they just kept production rolling along. Didn't need to do any big renewal press or anything. Also I think filming ended over six months ago, slow post production/release held back.

Riverdale with the 0.9

It has the strongest buzz of any new CW show by far (except Supergirl) but with the lead in and time slot, not so sure.

Today in the Daily Stump Craig Ferguson Report Watch Bulletin:

Craig Ferguson to Host a Live Weekday SiriusXM Show From His House

I'm sure him hosting a daily 2 hour radio show won't interfere with Join or Die, which has not yet been renewed or cancelled by History Channel.

Reminder again that the show is cancelled because History refused to air the last scheduled episode of the season, scheduled to air on July 28th, 2016, called "History's Biggest Douchebag". I wonder why they didn't air it. Who were the six candidates?

On the topic of History's Biggest Douchebag, the six people up for consideration between Craig and the panelists are: Thomas A. Edison; Anthony Weiner; Marge Schott; Bernie Madoff; Donald Trump; and Martin Shkreli.

Yes, I wonder why the network might have pulled this episode last minute. *shrug*

Hopefully we can get the episode as an extra on the Blu-Ray.

Riverdale - 0.8

I actually have no idea what to give it. On one hand, No Tomorrow and Frequency had strong lead ins and the audience had no interest. On the other hand, Supernatural isn't a comic book show and has a sizable female audience that might be open to watching something pulpy and soapy. Plus even though everyone might not read Archie comics, they're familiar with them.

I want to go higher. I think the show is gonna be huge and might even grow an audience but I'm having a hard time jumping over a 1.0 for the premiere

I hadn't heard about the filming! I guess I figured they'd promote the show a little more but now that it's two months out it makes more sense to start now than at the end of last year, especially when you have A Series of Unfortunate Events and others eating up the spotlight. This is a super long way of saying I wish they showed it off more so more noticed it... but at the same time, it's Netflix, which is all the promotion it needs.

never heard of it: 0.5

oh wait that's the Archie be hot now thing? 0.6
Nah, I'm kidding, 0.4. ( it's still 0.5 )

It's a CW show, so nobody cares and the idea of anything doing better now than the shitshow that is week zero of Trump's presifailure seems weird to me.

Grey's Anatomy does good, Scandal premier isn't that amazing, How To Get Away remains the stepchild.

Correct!

Riverdale 3.1. It will be an Empire-like television phenomenon. It will be 5.6 in the season finale.

It will get adjusted up in the finals.

Jesus that isn't good for a show with the buzz it had. Supernatural wasn't a good lead in for the show. Those fans only care about that show. It was even up against two channels of reruns too.

That said it's got the global Netflix deal so it's probably safe with those numbers compared to CW's other new shows.

I was so off. That's about where No Tomorrow and Frequency started at if memory serves right. I wonder if that'll hold or grow. I really liked the first episode so I hope it keeps going.

This is starting to become a pattern for The CW. Which is very strange because pre-Arrow, their bread and butter was teen soaps. Dawson's Creek, Felicity (not that one), One Tree Hill, Gossip Girl, etc. Wonder what it takes for a non superhero show to explode for them in 2017.
