He's just signed two executive orders during Mattis' ceremonially swearing in

Rebuilding the army from all aspects (subject to congress) and extremely vetting "terrorists"

It will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Extremely vet me if old

Edit:

Update for a link

http://www.cnbc.com/2017/01/27/trum...e-vetting-of-refugees-military-readiness.html

The details of what exactly Trump directed in the orders were not immediately clear. He signed them at the Department of Defense after the ceremonial swearing in of Defense Secretary James Mattis.

What does "rebuilding" even mean?

There's no decency/sanity floor to this guy's bullshit, so when my imagination goes to "he's gonna fill the army up with his fucking mouthbreather redcaps," it sounds hyperbolic, but is it? Considering this week, is it really?

He just seems to be signing executive orders that don't actually do anything to give the appearance he actually is doing something.

Yeah I mean defense spending only 11x that of second place, clearly we have room for expansion here.

Trump likes these "ceremonies" because it looks like he's getting stuff done and accomplishing his campaign promises. The truth is that the orders, actions or whatever you want to call them aren't very effective without congressional legislation. Some of them don't even make much sense.

Obama ordered Guantanamo closed on day one and look how that turned out. (Edit - ok maybe it was day 3).

The rebuilding stuff is just full of empty words.Check the readiness of the US forces, and have a national security strategy before January 2018. So nothing is being forced to change, but it sounds good for his base.

Watch "rebuilding the army" end up being a Erdogan-esque purge.

Nothing would surprise me after this week.

Some of them are just that. Its theatrics to be keeping promises. The Wall has to be dealt with by Congress and while we know they will do it the Executive order is just theatrics.

The Military one is again theatrics. Congress has to provide funding through bills etc. There are realistic issues with the Military that do need to be addressed but much of it could likely be done with current funding if someone actually cared enough to clean up waste.

I shouldn't bother asking in the Trump era, but what are the specific details? Any available?

None available yet. Updated the OP to reflect this. He didn't go into much detail. Just rambled on about keeping America safe from terrorist.

As for the army, upgrading planes, equipment, ships etc etc

Throwing more tax payer money at it to prepare for the inevitable war with Europe when the EU tries to protect its countries from Russia marching West. Guess what side we'll be on!

Really tho...I think he's going to get everyone heathcare by making all Americans join and serve in the armed forces, then force us to deal with the VA. Anyone who has any sort of medical issues is automatically called weak, unpatriotic, and depending on skin color, terrorist.

Remember when Republicans called Obama a dictator when he signed executive orders?
Let's hear what they have to say now...

<crickets>

Oh.

Yeah that's my take. Pretty much the only ones he's signed that do much are the ones telling an agency to stop doing something.

Rebuilding? What? I don't understand how active Military individuals can be pro-Trump right now.

They want to reopen all the bases that were shutdown over the years after the Cold War ended. A lot of these bases were the only source of income for a lot of small towns and they were devastated after the bases were shut down because we didn't need them anymore.

I walk tha corner to tha rubble that used to be a library
Line up to tha mind cemetary now
What we don't know keeps tha contracts alive an movin'
They don't gotta burn tha books they just remove 'em
While arms warehouses fill as quick as tha cells
Rally round tha family, pockets full of shells

Might want to rebuild some roads and bridges so your shiny new military vehicles don't sink into potholes during you dick waving parade.

...You know, the question I wonder with all this is did he even discuss the Order with Mattis first before signing it?

Because it'd be mildly funny to see Trump order the 'rebuilding' of the army and Mattis to wonder what the fuck he's on about.

Yeah rebuild the biggest most well funded army in the world... Fucking stupid.

Extremely vett people who undergo a vetting process that already takes up to two years.

So. Fucking. Stupid.

Increasing military spending has long been a signature Republican policy that has been romanticised by conservative media pundits over the last eight years (guess why). The topic was famously invoked during the debate between President Obama and Mitt Romney in regards to the size of the US Navy.

Here is a Politico factsheet that would interest readers:

Spending increased in 2010 and 2011, but it has fallen every year for four years since then by a cumulative 15 percent.

Other ways of looking at the question show declines as well. National security spending made up 20.1 percent of the federal budget in 2010, but in 2015 it was 15.9 percent. Over the same period, spending fell from 4.6 percent of gross domestic product to 3.3 percent.

There are two main reasons for the spending drop. The first is the Obama administration's decision to start removing U.S. troops from Iraq and Afghanistan. The second has to do with a process known as sequestration. Sequestration refers to the framework for automatic, across-the-board cuts to both military and non-military spending that were originally designed to force bipartisan negotiators in Congress to strike a deal in 2011. When negotiations fell apart, the cuts went into effect.

The bipartisan nature of the sequestration provision means that both parties merit a share of the blame, experts say. The most recent Obama budget proposed a 7.8 percent increase in the base Defense Department budget between 2015 and 2016.

http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-m...tifact-sheet-our-guide-to-military-spending-/

However, Republicans have always favoured an ever increasing military budget. Having a Democrat in the White House has only seen that demand increase during the narrative of a president unwilling to use the military, thus portraying him - and by extension the nation - as militarily weak. No doubt Trump would have picked up on that during his nightly Fox News viewing.

This. Nothing changes maybe personnel manning but most of it is just readiness and update national security strategy.

So he is saying the army sucks right now? Wish the military would read his words like I do. Anyway, what do they need to rebuilt when they are undoubtedly number 1 in military expenses already?

So, I'm beginning to believe this as well.

There's a good chance, according to an article I read on Politico a few days ago, that these EOs won't withstand legal scrutiny, and he's writing them all to give the appearance that he's trying to make good on his promises.

These seem to vague to have any actual meaning.

I will say since inauguration day the local Air Force Base has been flying jets at least 3 or 4 times a day.

Before it was a few times a week maybe.

Rebuilding means hiring Hugo Boss to design the outfit, and putting all the white soldiers on a higher pedestal, while giving black and minority soldiers the pawn work.

He is being simplistic in his speech as he tends to be. Trumps Military Plan has always called for building at least 80 more combat ships for the Navy etc. He wants at least 355 Ships in the Navy compared to the current 274.

Navy actually needs to get a fire lit under its ass when it comes to the Carrier Program. Falling behind on replacement and 2 more are rapidly approaching retirement.
