Trump: rebuilding army and extremely vetting refugees

Baby boomers should be fucking ashamed of themselves cause their parents risked their fucking lives to keep this shit from entering into this country and then they ignorantly vote this shit in. I'm not saying all baby boomers did this shit by the way.

The GOP the last few elections is big into comparing absolute numbers in the military. Remember Romney trying to nail Obama about our Navy being the smallest since WW2? Obama's comeback about horses and bayonets nailed it.

If Trump wants to 'rebuild the military', maybe he should focus first on fixing/staffing the VA.

Yes, agreed. Doesn't the hiring freeze mean that they won't be hiring more people to work with Vets? That's...extremely shitty, because those people are needed.

WTF are we rebuilding the military from? We already have the most powerful military in the world by a huge margin.

Is he planning on invading someone?

Remember, this is a man running for Republicans who always want bigger military and generally have hard on for militarism. And also remember Trump has asked "why they can't use nukes if they have them".

I recommend being very, very worried. I know i am.

EDIT Speaking of militarism.... Gorbachev wrote about current situation:

WTF! I must have missed the memo, but are we at war with someone?

Well, if I had to guess...with these comments about rebuilding the military, Nikki Haley's comments to the UN about "you'd better have our backs" (paraphrased), and Trump's comments on the ABC interview and in his "speech" to the CIA where he AGAIN said that we should "take the oil," I would say......soon??

Trump liked to mention Iraq but i wonder if he has bigger problem with Iran?
Who else could Trump be talking about? Mexico seems unlike but... *shrug*, Trump's too insane to be easily predictable.

In any case, i do wonder if casus belli will be manufactured or if it will be just straight up invasion just because.

Sweet. It's not like we need to spend money on education or poor neighborhoods

Nope, just indoctrinate the poor folk with jingoism and get 'em out there to go fight your wars, problem solved

Can't properly occupy Chicago without beefing up military spending. "Chicago blackhawks" is about to mean something completely different.

He certainly seems to not be a fan of Iran, and he did make "tearing up" the Iran nuclear deal a sticking point. But, I don't think he'd DARE go to war with Daddy Putin's strategic ally. Iraq seems likely, or hell, someone else, because fuck 'em, right??

...Gotta admit, I had to google casus belli. Tough to say, but the way he's instituting immigration bans is making him the recruitment poster for terrorism right now. I very much hate to say it, but we are likely to get attacked in some way, as a direct result of HIS policies, and that will be the provocation to justify war. Maybe. I'm just an ordinary schmuck reading the news...who's to say?

Modernization does matter. Major Modernization programs in the Navy for instance have been complete garbage leading to a number of programs being scrapped and then shit programs like the Littoral Combat Ship somehow getting through.

Wait

We have ships for naval battle... in lakes?

Expanding our military made some sense when we were talking about "getting tough" on Russia, but now that we're moving in the direction of improving our relations with Russia its just downright wasteful spending

The surprises are the orwellian fine print buried under the headline of the orders.

There is an agenda at work that has an end-game in mind. Secret protocols, if you like. All these executive orders must serve the greater purpose of the un-written protocols which are only spoken in private between Steve Bannon and a few others.

For example it is obvious that one of these hidden protocols is:
* build hatred distrust and fear of immigrants particularly those from troubled areas.
So buried under the headline executive order are paragraphs that subtly serve that more important protocol.

another hidden protocol would be
* Improve the relationship and profile of an authoritarian regime of power as it serves of de-sensitize citizens to future changes.

others might be
* undermine and destroy the freedom of the press
* dilute democratic opposition by handing power to state governors friendly to future authoritarianism
* blunt the vote from minorities
* encourage oligarchs and remove oversight of money from them.

What we see are campaign slogans turned into executive orders, what we don't get to read are the secret protocols they can only be inferred.

This is why Trump never allowed detail in the campaign, which the press promptly mis-interpreted as vacancy.
Detail would have allowed insight into the actual plans
Very well said the finer details are just like some of us feared. Trump likely had some degree of vacancy of finite details as Bannon and allies such as Putin and fossil fuels created his political platform. At this rate, I'm not going to be shocked when Trump signs a Make America Great Again EO and it focuses on a police-state in some cities such as Chicago and Detroit, labelling BLM a terrorist group, eliminating sanctuary cities, make terrible deals to bring businesses back to America, etc.

Anyway, hopefully I'm wrong but it's starting to look like we may get into trade wars with Mexico and China. We will likely get into a war against ISIS. I just don't know how bad it will be. I am deeply concerned about a war Trump is in when he openly questions why we don't use nuclear bombs. Not too mention a lot of the extreme right wing was talking about bombing the middle east until it glowed so it doesn't seem like the current goverment would care too much. Given a revamp of the Army, I'm curious to what scale they are planning on "going to war with ISIS". Speaking of which Trump has openly discussed about getting full control of the Oil in the Middle East. So we already know what his ulterior motive is.

they've already abolished the notion of peace time, in the west especially in USA we've been in continuous war since 9/11 with no peace treaty in sight. They tell us that particular at election time.

However the "war" isn't quite enough. Too many people question whether freedoms given up to fight terrorism are justified by the death toll. To an authoritarian that is treasonous.

So of course it would be helpful if the threat can be amped up. And even better if ISIS can be encouraged to try a little harder. Don't talk, don't discuss solutions, just "wipe them off the map" (knowing that even bombing without limit leaves plenty of souls in or near the rubble with new murderous intent). It is a no-lose proposition to do what Putin did in Syria. There is no Syrian armistice now that the rebels are "defeated", Trump just proved that by putting the whole country at the top of his no-entry list.

Apparently Trump's "Muslim ban" also applies to permanent residents of the U.S.—people who may have been (legally!) living in the U.S. for decades. Green card holders are being blocked from getting on flights back to the U.S., and those who had already landed in the U.S. are being told to return to their point of origin.

also from this executive order [pdf]:

Sec. 7. Expedited Completion of the Biometric Entry-Exit
Tracking System. (a) The Secretary of Homeland
Security shall expedite the completion and implementation
of a biometric entry-exit tracking system for all travelers
to the United States, as recommended by the National
Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States.

This is very unsettling as well. And I can't even imagine how it will work when driving into/out of the U.S. The current process (best case scenario) is you show your passport to a person in a booth, answer a few questions, and then drive off. Will everyone now be required to get out of their car and have their hand or iris scanned?

My best friend's nephew is in the Marines. In his own words he voted Trump because Trump is most likely to take us to war, he's itching to fight. Says he didn't want to go through all that training for nothing. He enlisted right out of high school 3 years ago.

Sorry but your friends nephew is a fucking idiot.

Jesus Christ what a fucking moron

What kind of shit? My Army and Marine friends have enough sense to not wish another war and fuck them up even more

I truly believe that the Trump administration will try to start a war, or bait sometime of foreign hostility to justify one so they can remain in power easier.

I'd like to make a thread discussing this, as there has been some strong discussion on it but we have so many Trump threads and i fear it'd be closed.

There was a joking speculation that Trump was going to try to go to war with Russia and....well im sure you can picture these outcomes.
