PS4 System Software Update 4.50 Features Detailed

I really, really, really hope that the PS4/Pro firmware features will transfer to the PS5/whatever; instead of another 'clean start'.

Apologies since this has probably been answered numerous times, but is possible to switch an external HDD back and forth between two consoles?

It's great that you can copy games and what not from internal to external and vice versa. Takes awhile but I just transferred all the non super important games to my external from my internal

Does this mean swapping out hard drives is massively simplified? Like can I transfer stuff back afterwards?

Can a drive that's currently in the PS4 be put into an external enclosure for PS4 use and not need formatting? Thinking of upgrading to a SSD for the internal and using my SSHD as the external if it's not too much of a faff.

Not sure if this was posted it talked about, but you can now directly upload/download save data by pressing options on the game itself! Looks so slick! No more running to settings all the time now!

Yep, this is an excellent feature.

I haven't tried but i don't think it'll work because there is the OS installed on it.

GAF, need some advice on whether I should potentially get a PS4 PRO (I have a 4k TV).

I currently only have a handful of PS4 games though.

- Bloodborne.
- Digimon - Both World and Cyber Sleuth.
- Final Fantasy XV.
- Dragon Quest Builders.
- Ratchet and Clank.

I'm really not going to buy too many PS4 games (heck the PS4 was a gift from my girlfriend), the next one would be FF12 remaster and Nioh.

Would I be stupid buying a PRO? Should I just stick to the OG?

If you have a 4K TV I do not think you would be worse off by getting a Pro. It has quite a bit of advantages even for 1080p TV's, but with a 4K TV is really a well recommended choice IMHO. You would even get improvements for unpatched games :).

Tried a USB 3.0 hub for both. Works just fine with PSVR, but the external drive did not.
Which would mean there's not enough power going to it. It being a 3.0 Hub should transfer enough power to run it.
Although I read not all USB hubs do this as they should.
I think it was Anker I read in a article which did do this
I'll try and find the article.

I second that!

Grab the Pro, even if for 4K R&C that thing is Pixar quality. Plus as others mention you will see boosts in pretty much any game now.

So supposedly this update brings improvements for PSVR cinematic mode. Any idea what they actually are?

In my experience I'm seeing increased image drift and no noticeable image quality improvements. I've played about 3 hours of Yakuza in cinematic mode so far.

Honestly depends on your disposable income man. I'd say no judging by the few games but if you basically have a blank cheque as far as allocating funds towards your hobby then why not. For me there isn't enough reason and I have a good number more games than that (I'm just not that fussed over technical specs) but there's every chance I'll have maybe 3 Switches by year's end. Do what makes you happy. If spending that amount when it isn't easily justifiable don't do it, but if you can easily justify it based on either your high use of those few games or just by having the disposable income, no real reason why not. It's a hobby, indulge as you like if you've got everything that matters in order :)

I posted about this a while ago but this is my favorite hidden little feature since I haven't redownloaded everything after getting my pro.

Got my code, am I able to roll back if its to buggy / whatever? (non pro)
Yes

this update !
boost mode, external hdd, party from quick menu

can't wait for external hdd performance test.
going sshd 3"5 could be good.

No, I meant it is showing the normal 3D image on the HDTV (the same double image on the VR unit). Viewers will need 3D glasses to enjoy the HDTV feed if you have the PSVR on.

Yeah, I figured that's how it would work with a 3DTV (good to see that confirmed). But the other guy was talking about what happens if you don't have a 3DTV. He was saying if its a normal HDTV, no video signal will be transmitted to the TV.

Update*
Now that is odd
Got Anker 4 Port Slim USB hub for £10
PSVR + Samsung 2TB 3.0 HDD and my TV's ambi LED's all running off the PS4PRO's back USB
Cool how my LEDs turn on when the PS4PRO does now.

Has anyone tried the "3D Blu-ray on PSVR" thing already?

I should try it out tonight. 😁

Yea I posted about this yesterday. My biggest disappointment is that it doesn't also send the signal to the TV, so if you have Audio Out set up from your TV to your Receiver, you get no audio.

I'm hoping somebody figures out a solution to this that's not "get a switch".

The actual 3D effect is pretty cool, though it was kinda jarring watching Avatar 3D when all of the faster action scenes happened and the camera shake was in full effect. I got used to it after a few minutes though.

It doesn't output to the TV? I have a 3D TV, so in the middle of watching Gravity I checked to see what the TV was doing with the signal, and it was just the two images combined. Maybe the signal passed through because it was paused when I looked?

i think i found something new, if you insert a disc that comes up that it can't install because of not enough space and it has a update if there is one will still continue to download, i think in the past if i haven't got enough space it'll just delete the update

Interesting. I wonder if it's not displaying to the TV in my case because my TV is not 3D. Or maybe it's a setting to have it display to both locations, I'll have to dig around tonight when I get home.

I really want an external HDD, but the PS4 simply doesn't have enough ports. PSvr takes up the back port for me now, so I'd have to put the HDD on the front (and it look like shit) and then I have only one port to charge controllers.

get a vr stand that charges all of your controllers.

I guess I'll look into that. Next gen consoles just need to have all USB ports in the back.
Silly idea, if you need to charge your pad when playing it's uncomfortable.
The frontal USB are needed for charging while playing and for connect your Pro Pad.

I have an external charging dock but still don't have any free USB ports.

The back one is PSVR and the front one is a USB with mp3s on it. Because I still can't save mp3s to the hard drive like I could way back on PS3.

I'm not sure what's up with your setup, but with the new beta patch, I have no problem getting 3D Bluray visuals through the VR headset while simultaneously getting 100% of the audio through my 5.1 speaker arrangement via my six-year old receiver.
