PS4 System Software Update 4.50 Features Detailed

Indeed. While the PS4 is capable of working with FAT file systems for backup and other purposes, the native file system it uses for game installs is something else altogether.

I take it 4.50's formatting tool does not allow for manual sizing of its partition. If so, is there no external tool that could be used on a PC to resize the PS4 partition that would be created?

I don't believe drives formatted by the PS4 have a recognizable partition table of any kind. In any case, you can't resize a partition if your utility doesn't have extensive knowledge of the file system it's tinkering with. At this point I think it's safe to say you won't be able to share a drive used as PS4 extended game storage except to move games between PS4s.

Makes sense. Shucks!

So how does the external thing work? One of my top wishes for a feature is you being able to download patches on the PC and then being able to load them on the PS4. This way, people with bad or no internet connections can still patch their games.

impossible with the way patches work.

I'm not sure what's up with your setup, but with the new beta patch, I have no problem getting 3D Bluray visuals through the VR headset while simultaneously getting 100% of the audio through my 5.1 speaker arrangement via my six-year old receiver.

Are you running audio through HDMI or optical out?

I'm running through HDMI only (cuz I have a PS4 Slim) and don't currently see a way to get audio from my TV instead of headphones while watching 3D blu-ray movies.

Hmm, just had my first 'external storage error' message, it wasn't showing in storage despite power to the external hard drive and lights being on.

A re-boot fixed this but I hope it was just a one off and not the PS4 forgetting there is an external hard drive attached.

Okay at the minute but once you have several hundred gigs worth installed if its going to start misbehaving like that...

I have a PS4 Pro. It doesn't have an optical out I believe.

My PS4 connects the PSVR box which connects to the PSVR headset with one set of cables, and to my receiver with a different HDMI cable. The receiver connects to the HDTV for visuals via HDMI cable, and simultaneously feeds the audio to my 5.1 speaker setup.

So I can listen to 3D Blurays audio solely from my speakers, or solely from the VR headset, or both. It's the same for watching the video with the headset and/or HDTV.

Does anyone has its PS4 pro shutting down by itself during gameplay or sleep mode since the 4.5?
It has happened to me 5 or 6 times since I installed it...

Pro has Optical Out, Slim doesn't

Ah, got it. I don't have a receiver, so I guess I'm stuck with headphones for now.

OMG I'm almost using my full bandwidth. Hope it stays this way when they release the firmware, so it's not because right now just few people are on this beta compared to the user base. It would be damn huge.

Tried partitioning the HDD I used to backup my OG when I got the Pro, didn't work, the PS4 just ignored it completely, and I could only access it via disc management in Windows. It just displayed the way a drive looks when you put a Mac partition, and I would have had to use DiskPart in CMD to reformat it.

PRO users that have crashes in games, does 4.50 fix this issue?

I have a PRO that Crashes on Rise Of The Tomb Raider in 4K mode.

Just gave a Crucial BX100 250GB a spin with in an external enclosure with FFXV.

Initial load (to wiz outpost)
Stock - 1m 47s
External SSD - 38s

Quick travel to Hammerhead
Stock - 1m 20s
External SSD - 28s

My stock drive is pretty full if that makes any difference. Either way, it's working real good. I'll be putting whatever current slow loady game I'm playing on to the SSD from now on.

Yay. My enclosure arrives tomorrow. Sounds like an improvement even on an internal SSD.

Do you go HDMI into TV, then HDMI out from the TV to your receiver? That's how I'm configured right now since my TV does not have optical out.

This makes me happy.

Is anyone else getting an error code (WS-37397-9) since yesterday. I'm constantly getting this and can't play online from time to time.

I really want an external HDD, but the PS4 simply doesn't have enough ports. PSvr takes up the back port for me now, so I'd have to put the HDD on the front (and it look like shit) and then I have only one port to charge controllers.

Can we get a topic change to

PS4 System Software Update 4.50 Features Detailed, supports USB hubs
?

Just got a 5TB HDD. With a 1.5 internal So 6.5TB or realistically like just under 6TB. Should be good on space for awhile now. My 1.5 wasn't enough and a 2TB may not have been either.

For those who have the beta, just want to confirm if I have a game on the internal drive I can transfer it to external just like I can do with the XBOX ONE just want to be sure..I assume it can but just wanted confirmation..and after I transfer the game over does it automatically delete itself from internal or do I have to do that myself

Yeah. Once you have the external drive formatted, you can press Options on the name of a game under the Storage > Applications folder and choose to transfer however many you want to the external HDD. The system defaults all future installs to the external drive, and uses the internal for captures/saves/etc.

Great so that means I can continue downloading games on my internal drive til the new firmware comes out..and once I get the new hard drive and I connect it to the PS4 PRO I can transfer those games to the external storage and then delete them from the internal drive..just wanted to be sure I could do it..now on to the question that I have about the wallpaper..I have seen lots of great wallpaper posted here for the new firmware..how would I go about putting one on the PS4 once the update comes out? I see that some people have posted wallpaper along with their ps4 themes not sure how they were able to do that

So, uh, when does this go live?

I bought a 2tb external hard drive today and then realized 4.5 wasn't out yet lol. :/
