Personally I think Evo should replace most fighting games with DOTA, LOL, Smite, Yugioh, Pokémon Sun and Moon, and every Smash game. Then have fighting game fans donate to a charity to get the final spot.

I'd probably donate if the charity were a lot more important.

Also as a TO I can sure as hell tell you there has to be numbers before you'll devote time and money to another game on the list.

2-5 people bringing one setup and doing a side round robin is fine, just don't ask me to make it the main event or spend $150 on a venue for you and your friends to meme around at.

My tourneys average 30-40 entrants every other week. Putting the money down for space for hundreds / thousands of entrants better have good reasoning behind it.

If people are generous with donating, odds are they'll be willing to actually enter as well.

Smash's presence at Evo (and likely the FGC as a whole) was due to them winning the last donation drive Evo held, it's natural for it to come up when discussing the new one.
 
Man, if the first EVO I can finally afford to go to is the last one for UmvC3, that'll be hype.

It won't be the last, new ports will keep it in like MvC2 was forever...

You don't think you're irrational and people who have been both in the Smash community and Fighting Game Community like Professor Beef understand what he's talking about. The last EVO donation drive was even more of a game of politics than this one is and just because you don't like the facts doesn't mean you get to call it fake or alternative news.

Ive also been part of the smash community since 64, and played fighting games in general my whole life. You can point out some bad eggs you saw online, but when you say something like "fuck this game and fuck anyone who likes it" you're a toxic person.
Also wtf are you talking about regarding fake news?

You probably should've specified that, then.

But my answer is the same. I give respect when it's earned, and the Smash community - not just melee but 4 as well - can kick rocks. I'm not saying other fighting games aren't full of assholes, but the Smash community has fostered their fair share more than other games.

That being said, make sure to cheer for me GAF once I get the funds to enter Smash 4

There was no Smash community 'since 64'. There were people playing Smash since 64, but the 'Smash' community AKA people actually getting together, and holding organized tournaments started with Melee and that wasn't until a year or two after its release. Also saying you play fighting games in general isn't the same as being part of the Fighting game community.

I'm not saying this to be exclusionary, I'm saying this because the actual communities do have their own history and it's important to remember the events and discussion because there's a reason why some people have a heavy dislike for certain communities. That's why I'm questioning your viewpoint and telling you when Beef or something else says that the Smash community acted shitty, that they usually have a reason why think that. Beef even said that had to go back and check Smashboards just to verify what happened with the last EVO donation drive, and you just dismiss it out of hand with "toxic". Apparently, it's toxic to actually point out what actually happened. That's some alternative facts right there.

And nobody is saying that "Fuck that Game, and fuck everyone in it". At least with most people, it's "Wow, fuck how shitty people in that community, fucking police that shit."

I'll be frank, the fact that you seem to disregard everyone else's perspective in order to advance your own shows that you're not open to even beginning to understand why some people may not like Smash, either in general, Melee or Smash 4.

well im sorry your experiences have led you to this conclusion. Honestly, compared to mobas, CS, Overwatch communities , all of the fighting games have been alright, maybe because theres less anonymity when you have to show up in person.

Obviously 64 were small time events that nobody really came to, but its still a game thats been played competitively as long as I can remember.

On a serious note (without the fuck everything comments), I do have to back up Beef here. There were a lot of politics and in general drama last time the donation happened. People seem to have very short memory on the matter, it was not all love and glory before. And I am not talking about random "screw other X game" type drive by posts either.
