PS4 System Software Update 4.50 Features Detailed

My friendlist for B1ggRandall is now my B1gg_Randall friendlist.
But my custom background and my folders didn't change.I hope I didn't lose my saves.Fuck!!!

Perhaps they're setting up a system for changing your user name and this is one of the side effects. I mean, if you can merge two together then surely you can take a new account and merge it with an old account? Come on!!!

edit: Damn and all hell, I thought I was first with this idea.

I did some testing few days ago.

I know it is a ball ache to do but we could probably do with some internal SSD vs external SSD benchmarks. At the moment I'm rocking a Samsung external and it seems a massive step up from my internal SSHD.

Maybe this is Sony's answer to wanting to change account names?

Make the account name you want and then combine them as one...

rsz_bo9e7dq.png

YOOOO. Dat legacy Sony psn ID database finally found a solution.. Hmmm I'll take it!

Don't know if it's been mentioned yet, but the trophy list in the quick menu now updates when you earn the trophy, not when it syncs. Makes it much more easy to keep track of them.

I'm wanting to SharePlay with my dude down in England, but he's not in the beta.

If he logged in to my account as a guest, could he install the firmware? Even more importantly, is that against the ToS? Really wanting to show him Nioh.

do you guys think load times will take a hard hit with an external drive?

A hit? I've been shocked at how much loading times have improved by adding a 4TB external to my system.
I used to have to wait nearly 10 seconds longer than my friend before I was joining a game of BF1, and now I'm always the first one in the game which I certainly didn't expect.

Just bought a Pro as well thanks to this update and now loading times in EDF 4.1 are almost completely removed.
Very happy with this update.

So, I was looking for YouTube videos demonstrating all of the features, but can't seem to find any. Is this because of an NDA you're meant to agree to prior to downloading the beta software?

From my understanding, that should be fine... People have been doing it with the burner accounts but only because they obviously wouldn't wanna be sharing their own details. Should be fine with someone you trust.

By now, Sony has to know the demand for this update is high. This has to be the most wanted PS console firmware update ever. At this point if it's stable enough just push it out with external hdd game/app storage as 4.50 and if boost mode is still being optimized for us Pro users and there's anything else left over (I.e external drive power usage in suspend) push out 4.51 in late Feb or early March. Wishful thinking I know. I have an external drive plugged in and ready to go, I hope Sony releases 4.50 soon.

Case in point, I just downloaded something and my 1TB drive is already full.

Nah...Not even close...Party chat...In game xmb access...Those were probably more wanted

Yeah, I want this update bad! I bought a 2tb hard drive last week and am now just waiting (impatiently) for it to release.

I dunno...
If you think this is more wanted then party chat or in-game xmb access...Then you were not around during the early PS3 days...

This is just the new hotness...people need to relax, it will be released to the public in a month or so. You will suffer no catastrophic injuries by waiting for something that you KNOW is coming...Sony didn't do betas back then so you had NO IDEA what was coming, or even possible

Anyone complaining about 500GB (or even 1tb of space) of space already has had the opportunity to upgrade to at a minimum 2TB, they have simply chosen not to do so...If storage space was THAT important you could have it already

I think people are as excited by the boost mode tbh

Yeah naw. Yall don't remember. The frenzy. Every average Joe blog had like 5 people in the comment section clamoring for party chat and in game chat. It's the same 25 people asking for a Bloodborne boost and updates. Practically no fanfare elsewhere.

So when is this thing coming out officially?
It doesn't have a release date, the purpose of the Beta is to identify any bugs and fix them before release. The more bugs they find, the more they have to fix before release.

Usually it's 4-6 weeks from the time that the Beta is released though.

Make it a perm account on the system, DL the update, then delete profile from the system.

A guest account wont allow the DL.

Okay so...

As it turns out, using the Cronus Max (which a USB Hub for full passthrough) stops a USB Storage Device from working. Like, it just simply isn't read until I pull out the Cronus Max

I wonder if there's a limited amount of power to USB devices from the PS4 in which case

Not sure if this has been gone over already so I apologize if this is old news.

I took my external HDD from my Pro and plugged it in to my OG PS4 with the beta firmware. It won't allow a game to be stored on both hard drives, so I had to delete the dupes from my system storage.

Not a big deal for me in this situation, but it throws a wrench into the whole idea of being able to take the HDD to a friend's house. If there are duplicate games on their machine someone is going to have to re download or you're SOL.

Hope they find a better solution eventually.

Edit: oh shit new page *please be news to someone*
Ran into this tonight. Wanted to let my cousin try the For Honor beta on my ps4 in the living room, so I connected the external drive that I am using for my bedroom pro (and where I already had the beta downloaded). I was expecting it would not let me run any duplicated games, but it actually also forces you to delete the duplicates before you can even use the external drive. That's not really something I want to do because I've downloaded like every ps4 game I own on the external, and I mainly use the pro, and the other system is for when family come over. That means the living room ps4 would only be usable when the external is connected (or I'd have to constantly redownload games). The only solution in this case would be to buy a second external I guess? Not the biggest deal for me, I just downloaded the beta on the other ps4, but it seems like an oversight that should be fixed.

What if you just put all games on the External drive? Does that let you switch between consoles?

That's... Horrible... Omg

It doesn't let you use the external drive at all? Or just the game that's installed on both drives?

You can't use the external at all until you remove any duplicates (either from the system storage or the external).

In prinicpal it would be easy to fix, they could just implement a system such that if the game exists on the system storage that takes precendence over the game existing on the external storage (and so it would just ignore that game on the external).

There is secondary issue if your intention was to take your game library to someone elses PS4 in that it indexes the external when you first connect it to a PS4 and adds each game to the home screen; this information is then held on the system storage such that when you remove the external storage those games are still visible. So if you connect an external storage with hundreds of games installed your friend is then going to have their PS4 library cluttered with games they cannot play after you've gone. They would either need to delete them manually or resort to doing a database rebuild. There doesn't seem to be any dedicated way for quickly removing external games after the drive is removed.

Lame.

I feel like that last one is an easy fix, I'm not so sure about duplicates. The fact that there isn't even a copy option means it's something they haven't figured out yet or they just don't want you to do it.

Found something weird with the external HDD I am using.

I moved a bunch of games from my PRO to my launch PS4.
The external HDD is empty. The launch PS4 see's it as empty.
But when I plug it into my PRO it has 32GB used under "OTHER"
Can't view it at all. So I format the HDD on my laptop and then reformat it on the PS4 for extended storage..still shows 32GB used on the PRO.

I don't know what that is.

It could be another partition unique to your launch PS4. Use a partition manager on your PC to delete it if you don't think you need it.

Did some searching around..this "Rebuild database" option in safe mode fixed it.
Apparently my PS4 still had an entry for and allocated space for a game that was no longer installed on it.

All good now.

Yes it does.
You do need to wait a bit till the system has gone through the drive and linked everything up though. At least the first time.

Technically, yes, but as I mentioned in my initial post, I rarely use the PS4 in the other room myself, however, I failed to mention that it does get regular use by family members when they come over. Like I said, not really a huge deal (especially as I have a 2TB drive in that other PS4 that isn't filled yet), but, it means I will have to download everything twice if I want to play something on both PS4s. Or, I could get a second external, download everything to that AGAIN, and then if there was one game I had downloaded on my main PS4, I could bring the drive out to the living room and use it temporarily. At Sony's glacial pace when it comes to this stuff, I doubt it will be changed anytime soon, which is a bummer.

Right, it doesn't let you use it at all. I didn't even think about the indexing issue, as both PS4's are mine, so I don't really care, but that would be annoying for those items to be left behind if a friend brought a drive over with a bunch of stuff only he owned. Again, not a huge deal for me, but I wish these kinds of scenarios were thought of by Sony a bit more before they implemented the feature, because now we're going to get months and months of people wanting it changed (and I think rightfully so, honestly). It seems Sony tends make changes based on literal requests, without thinking of the bigger picture, haha.

I'm trying to understand what happens when you unplug your external HDD.

I travel with my ps4 once or twice a year and so it's really important to me that the thing still mostly function OK without being chained to a HDD. I realize games stored on it won't exist but I really want to be sure the OS handles it gracefully

I guess the way to use it is to put games you play often on both PS4s on the external, and then other games locally.

Can you easily move games from internal to external like you can on a Xbox?

Could someone have more that one external HDD? I don't necessarily mean at the same time, but if I have a couple external drives, can I unplug one and plug in another that has a different set of games on it if I wanted to without causing any issues? I know pulling an internal HDD will require a format when you plug it back in for example.

I dont think you'd have a problem.. But why would you do that

Anyone know if there's any workaround to getting a 240GB external drive working? The stated limit is 250GB so the drive I want to use can't be formatted. Any feedback on this on their beta forums?

Probably not, since the system is doing a disk check before even allowing you to format it.

Just received an update to System Software 4.50 Beta 3. Any ideas what the differences are between the previous build and this one?
