Which part of the Zelda season pass are you most excited for?

Oh come on, all the people saying "you wanted Nintendo to get with the times, here we are..."

They've been with the times. For at least half a decade, since 2012 when they started selling DLC for NSMB2 and Fire Emblem Awakening. Their first season pass was 2014 with Mario Golf World Tour (which doubled the number of courses in the game). They've had great success with DLC in games like Mario Kart, Pikmin 3 and Smash Bros.

This is officially business as usual.

Seriously how many years from now are people still going to be saying "oh man, DLC, what sort of Nintendo is this?!"

Reminds me of the people who were convinced the Switch would have friend codes even though Wii U launched without them.

The stuff in DLC pack 1 should be a free update if they ran out of time to have them in the base game. Hard mode? New map feature? Seriously?

No. Just no.

I bought MK8 DLC day one because that was a good deal. This DLC looks like a shit money grab.

Come on people why are you all so damn negative about this? We get a probably massive game in March and will get an addition to that end of the year...

Its not like they make you pay 3,99€ to use the master sword or 1,99€ for a nice camouflage shirt and skirt....

I'll give them this, an expensive Season Pass with paywalled difficulties and cosmetics is certainly a sign that Nintendo is catching up with the modern industry. For better or worse.

I'm still totally buying it, though.

Hmmmm I really didn't expect that, not a fan of having DLCs on a Zelda game.

Buuuut if the content upgrades are really good I could be ok with them, if the contents are shallow that will enrage me quite a bit though.

Mario Kart expansions were great, so here's hoping this one follows suit.

If we take MK8 dlc's as example, we can expect great polished content.

can we really say it's the same thing ?

Content for a open world game is NOT the same as content for a racing game.
Never has been and will never be.
In open world game , everyone has , so far outputted content ranging from bullshit to great.
I don't even see any indication that could indicate this will be polished.

As expected this thread will be weird like ppl don't complain about every season pass ever for every game regardless of what it is, Zelda is no exception. Some ppl don't like the idea of season passes so what.

Unless this fabled GOTY version, is under $20 will will have spent more money in the game. Also, don't feel obligated to buy dlc because you own the game. You don't have to prepurchase it,you'll still get everything upon purchase when you do. So there's no real incentive unless you feel you need the prepurchase bonus content day one, which you probably don't.

The Wii U version is 46 euro. With a 30 euro GOTY you get cheaper and own 2 versions of the game.

Anyhow, since you can't buy the DLCs separately and I don't really like the 1st one I guess I will wait for the 2nd one to be released before deciding about buying the season pass. Maybe I finally get to use the My Nintendo coins for once.

I almost never buy DLC, but the Mario Kart 8 DLC was pretty great and well worth it's price.
I hope this is similar. although $20 seems pretty high for what they're offering. Hope it's worth it.

Hoping hard mode has stuff changed like enemy placement and drops, that would make me more interested. (something a bit more akin to Masters Quest rather than enemys just made tougher)

Soundslike 30 AUD which is alright for me. Just hoping that the new temple and story content is good. It's nice to have some story DLC in a Zelda game for once.

Meh? Cave of Trials is a thing you'll spend at most an hour with, and I'm being generous there. Hard mode... Well it's not something I'm personally very interested in. That's just the thing where you take twice as much damage, right? A new 'feature for the in-game map' is quite vague. What does that mean? A new area to explore? All in all, the first expansion seems really underwhelming.

We probably won't know anything about the specifics of these features considering they're trying to avoid spoilers, a new feature for the in-game map might be a new Shiekah Slate tool, Hard Mode might be a "survival mode" and distinct from a Hero Mode by restricting access to food and ingredients, and I doubt a Cave of Trials for a game with more fleshed out combat will be as dull as Twilight Princess's.

I honestly thought this was a troll when I entered this thread.

This doesn't piss me off or anything, I actually don't mind DLC when it's done right and Nintendo has a decent track record.

For a Zelda though...it just feels...odd.

It's been said before I'm sure but the holiday pack will obviously have Zelda playable in her own original storyline where she tackles a dungeon. So she's not playable in the main game but is in the dlc. So for everybody who wanted her, celebrate! She's playable.

It's good to know that Breath of the Wild will get some new life put back into it, and a hard mode would be reason to play through again.

But in general I hate "pre-order dlc". Yes we're not forced to buy it, but it's something trivial that annoys me.

The second dlc sounds great, the first one sounds shit, oh and not sure I'm ok with a difficulty setting being dlc, but then again it's what they did with Mario Kart 8 and the 200cc....

Been waiting for what seems like forever for this shit and they push stuff to a season pass?
You want to wait even longer for the game?

The game went gold and they're building new content. Does a developer need to wait a few months after release before starting DLC work before people stop moaning about stuff being pushed to DLC?

Season pass for a zelda game?

oh dear.

Cave of Trials should have just been a sidequest in the main game really like it was in TP and WW and a hard mode should be an unlockable diffculty.

Not going to support this, may buy the separate story DLC when it releases but there's no way I'm going to start buying season passes even if I do like zelda.

It's all one package. From the Nintendo website:

"Content packs cannot be purchased individually."

I do want to play the expanded story if it's substantial. I guess I'll jump in on this but unless those two items significantly improve the game experience I'll just wait for the summer content to hit before buying.

Will probably only get the DLC Pack 2 =P

Care to expand on that ?
Smash DLC's was pretty cheap compared to other fighting games
As someone who never bought DLC for any other fighting game, I can't comment on that. But the base game includes approximately 50 characters and stages along with all the other content in the game for the $60--or less for the 3DS version. So it felt like paying far less than a dollar per character or stage. But then the extra characters cost $5 each and stages $2 each, so they seemed incredibly more expensive. You could spend nearly as much on the extra characters and stages as the base game, and have increased those things by less than 20%.

Oh my, now Nintendo is a true AAA developer. I am so happy ;_;

Well: I won't buy in until the content is explained in more detail. The Hard Mode sounds fun, though. :/

Kotaku just reported that you can not buy the DLC packs separately?

And putting a new difficulty behind a paywall? What?

I think I'll pass. By the time the content I care about launches in the holidays I will have already long beaten it. Plus I can always youtube any new story content. I don't expect them to add anything substantial like the Witcher expansions

For all the people saying they will only buy the second one, It says on the bottom of the Nintendo website that they are not sold separately.

But expansion pass get bonus treasure chests? Bit confused there.

This reads that if you buy the pass now you get those items now as a bonus. It is to encourage people to buy it now rather than wait and see if it will be worth it.

Exclusive Hard Mode for the DLC? I don't like this. The only way this is something I'm okay with is if this is a new difficulty level not related to the Hero mode and the Hero mode is included in the main game.

Well after seeing FF15 I can't blame Nintendo that much. It's still far from it.
But I really hope it won't be the reference for most games.
I want my RPGs with nothing else to think about but playing and wait for the next.
No extra cost/storage whatever...

So now that's it's there, they better make a really really big pack so it justifies the price.

The first pack with difficulty/map update seems more like a patch than something I'd pay for.

Hard mode is behind a paywall? Please tell me I read that wrong???? 🤔

Well, if Hard mode doesn't exist in the main game, and they're beginning work on a Hard mode as additional content after the game has shipped...then, yes? In that context, I can't say I understand why people would be upset or offended. You're getting the option of additional modes and content, additionally, but yes, they are not always going to be free.

I don't know, maybe I'm biased because I work for a AAA game studio (that everyone loves to hate lol) and my job is essentially thinking of ways to keep players engaged in a certain game (this includes dlc/live offers), but I think a lot of players have a knee-jerk reaction when it comes to the idea of paying for extra content.

Like, at least for us, and I'm pretty sure for the Zelda team too--we do this as a way for added value to the player. I'm not saying ham-fisted cash grabs don't exist, but the majority of the time, when we plan extra content it's to enhance player experience and enjoyment of the product without necessarily making players who only buy the "base" product seem like they're missing out on the core experience.

"The second content pack will launch in Holiday 2017, and adds new challenges that will let players enjoy a new dungeon and a new original story."

This is an awesome idea
