It is funny how every single time, they (analysts in general) bring up costs, but then forget certain systems launched in the market very cheap not that many years ago and yet have completely failed to sustain good sales. It's almost as if most gamers care more about the library of games, branding and features than letting price act as their bottleneck.

Also they somehow forgot to remember that early adopters are generally hardcore & core enthusiasts, the exact type of gamers who don't care about a new system's launch. If they want it, they're buying it regardless of the cost. Price-sensitive casual and mainstream customers tend to jump in quite a ways later on, by which point Nintendo can do pricing promos or even a price cut if they feel like it.

Switch 2 may not sell 150+ million units. But it will be fine, and still clear 100 million with little issue. What's more, I'm sure Nintendo will find other avenues of revenue streams to increase that and profits over the course of the gen, what with the theme parks, films, even a random branded clock did gangbusters. So basically, more worry over nothing from people who can only see the glass half-empty.

They are discounting Nintendo's exclusives. That's a mistake. If they get an Animal Crossing in the launch window bombs be dropping.

I voted no, couse i think to have the most successful console ever back to back with *just* an upgrade isn't possible

I can see anything between Wii U and 3ds sales numbers. Hard to imagine it selling anything beyond that, especially with the expected price tag.

You are forgetting one thing, next gen pokemon with more resources. This alone will make it 100M plus

If we can get tales of arise level-graphics in a pokemon game, competition is cooked.

I know its hard to believe after legends z-a, but i think the pokemon company is really starting to understand and switch 2 is going to change things.

Plus pokemon has been growing insanely in revenue the last 5 years, which will lead to bigger investments.

There's even the live action Netlfix show for the 30th anniversary. This will make pokemon explode even harder.

Too many unknowns at the moment. It will depend on the cost of the console, the software launch lineup, and subsequent stream of titles the initial year that will determine its success. Needless to say, there needs to be alot of buzz and momentum out the gate. I think Nintendo knows that and will be swinging for the fences on April 2nd. 2 weeks to go!

So you agree it won’t be as successful as Switch 1? :messenger_tears_of_joy:

The real hard question is whether it will be more or less successful than the Virtual Boy? I need some help determining my odds there.

Expecting Pokemon to have upgraded graphics is expecting a bit much. Best they will do is upgrade from PS2 level graphics to PS3. Hardware and money aren't what are holding them back right now.

I think so too. Switch 1 gave a unique oppurtuniity to play decent games like Witcher 3 away from home. Today there is Steam Deck and a bunch of other handhelds, that already provide more. Switch won't be as unque as Switch 1.

What time is it?
The safe bet is no. It's what my gut tells me as well if nothing else, I do think the pandemic helped push a good chunk of people towards gaming that wouldn't normally have been there and we aren't likely to see another lockdown again any time soon.

And what were analysts saying in early 2017 about the console that in the near future will become the highest selling of all time?

The 2020 pandemic helped the Switch a lot. That is why for the Switch 2 it will be hard to match the same numbers. But still will be a 100+ million console sales wise.
My buddy owns a retro have store in Sacramento want when I tell you the week leading up to lockdown was the most successful period in the stores history. Even when restrictions started letting up it wasn't until 2022 that he started getting inventory again. Financially he was set for ages.

I guess what I'm saying is you aren't wrong, that's a snapshot of the growth that much of the world saw in that period.
