Being linked to anti semitism regardless of how successful you are is a death sentence. Look at what happened to Mel Gibson. No company wants to be associated with someone with perceived racist views.

I agree that is how it should be. But I believe there will be more people out there willing to try to turn that around for a slice of the profit potential.

are you talking about 2017 Oscar nominee Mel Gibson?
yeah he totally got black listed by companies.

Precisely. Many people here are saying this is the end of his career. Plenty of money makers are looking at this as one hell of an opportunity.

Hope he invested well. Career is probably finished.
Unless folks refuse to advertise in his channel he'll be fine. Without his youtube premium show, which was only a relatively recent venture, he'll be fine but whatever money he wasn't making from regular reviewers that he might have recouped in here is once again lost.

His career isn't over but his rep is tarnished with big companies. He also lost a significant chunk of revenue without those deals. He's basically gonna earn money from clicks the old fashion away again. Dude really fucked it up.

He had a reality show? wtf?

One of the first YouTube Red shows they kept pushing on us.

Dudes career began with him just screaming "RAPE" down a microphone. It was way past time for corps to yank the money if they wanted to seem like "the good guys" in this era.

Well, he dug his own grave.
He has no one but himself to blame for what is happening.
Anyway, he has enough money already to transform his venture into something else.

I never liked the guy very much and I never watched a single video of him so I can't really comment on his behavior.

I don't understand why he would think wishing death in an ethnic group would be hilarious. Did he ever explain his thought process? What's with all these racist fucks coming out of the woodworks

'several videos detailing a stunt in which he paid two shirtless Indian men to make a video holding up a sign that said “Death to All Jews.”....' ?!

Jesus, how the fuck did no one in his team stop him?

Im usually playing devils advocate, defending mistakes and stupidity, but at his level its inexcusable

I wonder. I feel like the age of the internet and the surprise rise of people like trump and events like brexit might have turned that on it's head unfortunately.

The prank makes absolutely no sense as a joke unless your goal is to get a lot of Nazis laughing. The guy's audience is made up of young people.

His fans are all alt-right types so he can have them. There defending him right now on twitter.

Highly, highly doubt that. In fact I'll say you're outright wrong. You have/had people here that liked him. I'm sure "all of his fans" were not "alt-right". Also, most kids don't have an actual political stance or scream racism/hate from the day they're born.

It's a mixed bag that falls on all sides of the fence.

I couldn't stand 30 seconds of his stuff and I don't personally know anyone else that could. There's no place for racism/hate on influential Youtube channels. Especially when you have thousands of kids as fans. Personally I don't know how anyone other than a kid could ever stomach a lot of his stuff. My daughters watch a lot of crazy Youtube shows, that I monitor, but I can't stand to listen/watch half of them. Not enjoyable at my age. Many of them aren't offensive though, so I don't speak against them doing what they like/love.

All these people excited aside, gotta say I'm disappointed in the guy. I didn't ever watch him or anything like that but I surely respect a grind when I see one so to see him ruin that on something he should've known would hurt him financially and just public perception of him in general is a shame

well he won't lose enough viewers to impact him plus he has other ways to make money/already has a shit ton.

Eh, I imagine these shows and such are a much bigger portion of where his money comes than what he gets from his viewers and subs, not to mention this probably will impact future opportunities for sponsorships and the like.

Time will tell, but he probably dealt himself a pretty huge blow. Now, given that he's the .001% of Youtubers making multi-millions, the question is whether or not that huge blow is enough.

Maybe if it was a different prank or something I could understand that, but this was absolutely idiotic and anyone with half a brain could have told him it wasn't a good idea. He hoisted his own petard brilliantly and for no clear benefit.

Dude legit got blacklisted from all the major Hollywood studios. That is widely known.

and he still got someone to pay for his movies and he still got recognized by the academy.
pewdiepie has 53 million subscribers in the most valuable target demo, he'll be more than fine.

Mel Gibson's stuff was much much worse too.

I really don't understand. With all the contracts he signed for, no actual producer check his videos before uploading on youtube?

Hell, it's not the first time this has happened with him. Apparently, similarly insensitive rape jokes he made led to his partner Machinima being dropped by a major sponsor, which ended up turning Machinima into the rotting husk it is today.

I still am not sure what he actually did. From the clips I saw someone held up a sign in a video he was reacting to on a stream?

He paid them to do it via a service where you pay money and these guys make a video where they say a message you tell them to say. Not sure if he thought they'd actually do it based on his expression.

With Donald Trump as the president of the United States, I find it funny that anyone in here would say with a modicum of seriousness that PewDiePie's career is over.

it's actually reading the comments not just on here, but on other messages boards. It's related but unrelated.
Felix is pretty modest when it comes to talking about how much he earns and money in general. Yet so many people are ignoring the situation and talking about "how he has money". He is right.

Especially when the U.S just elected an oomplah loompah who spews this in a meaningful manner.

I don't want to watch the video but, as far as I understand it from the eurogamer report, he acted surprised and shocked when the nazi message appeared on screen. He seemed to think that someone were to catch his prank and stop it.
So my question is: why did he see such a disturbing outcome and post the video anyway? Is he so starved for fame and attention that he HAS to post the video anyway? Isn't he the multi-milionaire, most famous producer on youtube?

He made stupid jokes and got what he deserved. I don't think he's a Nazi at all or trying to keep his alt right fans happy or anything else like that though. He'll find another revenue stream.

He brought this upon himself I guess. I'm not a fan of his content but his kind of 'humor' can be seen throughout many other youtube channels. Like I said, I'm not defending him or taking sides here but I think the only reason why he got taken down like this is because of how massive his popularity is, other smaller channels will continue to operate normally with the same kind of content until they grow enough to get noticed by the masses.

are you talking about 2017 Oscar nominee Mel Gibson?

Yes, the same Mel Gibson who spent 10 years in the wilderness out of Hollywood and couldn't get a major Hollywood studio to back any of his projects, or manage to only get any substantial acting roles.

Precisely. Many people here are saying this is the end of his career. Plenty of money makers are looking at this as one hell of an opportunity.
It's the end of of his career as we know it. If/when it hits the national press it will have a massive effect on his brand. And with the current political climate there is every chance this could be far more damaging.

and he still got someone to pay for his movies and he still got recognized by the academy.

Yeah, this happens all the time in radio. Zany morning show host says something stupid, there's a big controversy, they get fired, things settle after a few weeks or months, they get hired by another station/conglomerate.

I think if he was completely joking he needs to apologize and denounce that type of thought altogether and really be 100% serious about it.

Even then he's an idiot, but at least one I'd still watch every now and then.

Edit: And honestly I dont think he will give a genuine apology after watching the videos. They just irk me and I get the feeling he was not 100% joking.

His career is far from over. The thing with Youtube is, you don't need anybody but yourself to reach an audience. He built the biggest one there is and they're not going anywhere.

Now his relationship with sponsors and big company, now that's another story. But the way he talked about how filming Scare PewDiePie 2 was such a stressful experience, I have a feeling he wanted out anyway. Now he bought an office space for him and his friends, so obviously he planned on doing things his way for quite a while.

I used to just be annoyed by PewDiePie and his base but with the stuff he's done recently I've grown to really dislike him. Hopefully this is the beginning of the end of his career.

That's a shame.

He always seemed like a nice guy, but it looks like he had a serious lapse in judgement.

Hopefully he can learn a valuable lesson from this.

His entire career was a serious lapse in judgment lol, this shit is tame compared to some of his other videos.

I think the real problematic news here is how YouTube and the internet gives white men a free pass for targeting vulnerable groups up until their brand is damaged. When they lose profitability it's time to jump ship.
