1) Just an example to show it's not about being offensive or not. It's about who's being offensive to who.

2) Context, he's making fun of Keemstar. He's clearly, at least, acting like he's appalled by seeing it.

3) Just an example again. You think this is offensive, so "That's a wrap, he should be vilified"

1) thats not how being offensive works, at all. It's not the offenders or defenders call on who is offended.

2) Bull-fucking shit. This is a weak ass defense going on here and people should be ashamed to be pushing this narrative. Keemstar did not make PewDiePie send a fiverr request to some guys in india to hold a sign that says "Death to all Jews" He chose that phrase, he chose to upload the video for reactions and clicks. Period.

3) Me and several others including Google and Disney. The fact others DONT find "Death to all Jews" not offensive is extremely telling the climate that is going on right now in the world.

So you use a book about another entirely different bunch of countries and cultures and applied it to another country with hundreds of different cultures, against my actually having lived there after your book's publishing date. Real convincing argument you've got here.

He's being held accountable for his actions. Which is fine by me.

Hope he can comeback from this a better person, and continue doing what he loves.

Again, I never claimed that India specifically was antisemitic. Orientalism is about the western image of the orient, not reality.

Huh? The guys said "subscribe to keemstar". It's still in poor taste, but he is, indeed, making fun of Keemstar for being the racist piece of shit he is. He's been taking jabs at him for a while now, honestly (I'm pretty sure that "white guy victim" video is also taking a huge shot at Keemstar)

Again, I never claimed that India specifically was antisemitic.

Then what the fuck is even your angle. Not being able to admit that you fucked up in your arguments?

.

The joke is about Keemstar being anti-semitic. How is "Keemstart did not make PewDiePie do this" supposed to be a rebuttal? What other phrase should he have used to paint Keemstar as anti-semitic?

I never claimed India was anti-semitic, but people from there look ethnically similar to people who are very, very anti-semitic in the east. And I never called PewDiePie a white supremacist, I called him a capitalist exploiter.

Why does the fact that they look similar matter? By that logic, you can say that since most racists are white, all white people are racist. It's a poor argument. Also, the very fact that they are offering their services on Fiver means that anyone that uses their services can be labeled a capitalist exploiter.

The Middle East was Edward Said's specialty and that's why his research focused primarily there, but many of its concepts apply to western views of the east in general.

I mean, the Middle East and the Far East are two vastly different locations, and I would argue that the Far East lacks the close geographic and cultural relationship with the West that the Middle East was often exposed to.

Hey, he can rant all he wants now. The damage has been done. :)

to himself? his watcher? dude I agree that this jew comment was to much for some people but his view wont be affected in a slightest.

I do think however he will learned from this event not to tell people to do shit like that again. He really should be publicly apology to the 2 Indian dude, that was mean of him

Read it again. He is saying that pewdiepie is making fun of Keemstar who is known to be anti-sementic

Hope he can comeback from this a better person, and continue doing what he loves.

I think the question is, how many times is he going to sabotage himself like this and how many times are people going to be willing to give him a second, third, fourth chance?

I mean, corporate sponsorships are done with him so he's pretty much cut himself off from any entertainment venue that isn't the internet. He can't afford to mess around with that too much.

The guy lost some ad revenue, viewers, and his deal with Disney and all because of his own actions. Hes going to be fine and he's not a victim here. Yet we still have plenty of people waxing poetic about SJW's and "People just can't see past their programming." It's pathetic.

You are literally saying "He is showing how another person is anti-semetic, by paying strangers to hold up a sign that says "Death to all jews". Wonderful logic.

Read it again. He is saying that pewdiepie is making fun of Keemstar who is known to be anti-sementic

I did read it just fine thanks. Believe it or not there are better ways to point out someone is anti-semetic by being anti-semetic themselves. Again Keemstar did not force him to do this, this was all PewDiePie.

I never claimed India was anti-semitic, but people from there look ethnically similar to people who are very, very anti-semitic in the east.

We look very similar to a lot of people from a very wide area. What the fuck? What are you even trying to say?

lol ok we'll continue with the numbers thing

1) idk what that means

2) You said kids and teens will see this, reacting this way, even if he's acting, shows them that's unacceptable language. He, or someone he knew, definitely sent that. That's not what I'm saying.

3) Yeah, it's clearly aimed to be like an "offensive joke", at Keemstar mostly, but I'm just arguing that making offensive jokes doesn't make you a bigot, automatically. They're brands, obviously, once people start a hubub, they'll react accordingly.

The argument is about the image and depiction PewDiePie showed in his video, that's what it has always been about.

No. You said that he was exploring third world countries for profit. When that fell apart you went and said that he was targeting India to be even more anti-semitic. Now that that fell apart too you're... trying to say that it might as well be as bad because Indians are somewhat similar to Middle Easterns? The fuck?

I really like the stance of Disney and Google on this. Normalizing intolerance and violence should not be tolerated. They should implement a zero tolerance policy to intolerance.

Seriously? Are you guys for real? Is Pewdiepie racist? Anti-semitic? A Nazi? Really?

He made a joke, albeit in bad taste. Yes, i agree, kind of. You know who else make fun of Jews, Hitler and god knows what else? South Park. Stick of Truth has a whole goddamn level where Zombie-Nazis trumpets out racial slurs and white supremacist hate-songs.
I didn't see the pitch forks back then.

But seriously - it was a bad joke. It was not fitting. But all the hate is in this thread - you are barely better yourself. Get off your high horses.

Then let's blame Filthy Frank, iDubbbz, maxmoefoe, PhillipDeFranco, Pyrocynical and others who make the same kind of joke or commented on stuff breaking all SJW and PC's.

I think iDubbbz puts it clearly.

Yeah, let's take advice from the white dude who casually uses nigger, affectionately calls his fans niggerfaggots, and stalks and harrasses a girl for calling out on his racism just because she also uses racist slurs too.

I was completely fucking horrified how much Reddit ate up this YouTuber's shit just because he had a sick gotcha moment video.

Yep, people really get off on these things and making people villains. The internet is weird.

Hes young, goodlooking and most importantly rich, he's gonna have haters no matter what.

Ethan's statement about the whole "controversy"

Yeah, doesn't give a shit.

not much of a PDP watcher, but I do watch h3h3 occasionally.

He'll definitely make a video about this ordeal. How couldn't he?

Now looking forward to the mental gymnastics he is going to go through to somehow justify it.

"He's an entertainer/commedian, it's what he does! PC culture bullshit!" isn't gonna cut it.

Hope PDP does the right thing and issues a real apology and tries to clean up his act a little.

1) Not everytime. Comedians get called for shit all the time. Being a part of that group doesn't exonerate you from everything. It's the joke and context that matters. Speaking of context...

2) Wat. I was told by like 5 fucking people that he was shocked that the 2 indian dudes actually did it, then to salvage it, he made a Keemstar joke. I'll watch it myself but you are literally the only one here arguing that he planned it all along. Nevermind there are two of you. Same thing though.

3) In that exact post you stated that people were being offended for him. Yet in this thread we had several Jewish posters angry at PDP. So which reaction matters more? Hint: Both are valid.

...and you kill them all....because they're bad guys.

I mean the "N" word is used like crazy in Mafia 3, but then I get to stab the person that said it in the throat and feed them to Alligators.

There's a huge difference and disconnect that some don't seem to get.

What? The "Subscribe to Keemstar" was part of his request to them. It was literally said in the exact same video. How would he salvage it? Did he go back in time?

Considering the average level of discourse in youtube comments, I'm sure their audience is more pissed at this move than supportive. Terrible community. Twitch is filled with just as much racist garbage.

That's a shame.

He always seemed like a nice guy, but it looks like he had a serious lapse in judgement.

Hopefully he can learn a valuable lesson from this.
It's called the untouchable syndrome. Pew has it, our current president has it and Tiger Woods had it.

Don't feel bad for him one bit. Shit is not funny.

If you keep following this "Wonderful" logic in a straight line, any comedy, movie, or documentary that creates offensive imagery, and reacts to it as if it's offensive, shouldn't be allowed. Because they paid someone to pretend to be offensive so they could react to it as if it's offensive..

Look somewhat similar, not are somewhat similar. Image. Are you typing on your phone or something and it's changing exploiting to exploring?

Time to change his name to PewDeadBye.

Best post in this thread, kudos

Cape for rich assholes, then get defensive when they get their shit wrecked, ppl.

The salt from the stans is amusing. "Death to all Jews" standalone isn't comedy. Not a joke, nothing funny about it. But then I kinda had a feeling about this guy ever since his flag started getting waved here. Good to know I was right. :D

Also, stop using words like "naive" and "misunderstood." This dude knew exactly what he was doing. The "comedians get away with it!" line is also wrong. George Lopez wasn't given a free pass for that shit he pulled recently.

No, that's a language lapse since "exploring" here can mean "exploiting" too. My bad. Still, I hope you can see that you've dug yourself a hole. There's nothing about image in your arguments as much as you want to claim.

You people treat calling people nazi the same you treat console wars. This shit is disgusting.

People hated him here on Neogaf because of his success. Not surprising to see all the people coming out of the woodwork labeling him things.

He fucked up, yes, but I don't think he is racist, facist, etc...

I think the word you are looking for is context lol. Context is something that is central to comedy but of course all these people saying that anyone who's upset just don't get comedy, conveniently ignore context.

They didn't understand what jew meant. They said it themselves and apologized. He got rejected by a bunch of other people and he was expecting this to be the same. His poor judgement was still airing it

I'd say his poor judgement was asking a bunch of people to say 'death to all jews' for the lols. 'I tricked you into saying something horrible' is some grade school garbage. It also seems weird to defend the action as he didn't know he just kept going to different people until one didi it, because it sounds like he just kept making the same mistake over and over without ever thinking why no one would do it and what he should do if they did.

Not so much poor judgement as a whole pile of unintentional idiocy.

Disney and YouTube done the right thing, PewDiePie has a responsibility to his younger audience and shouldnt have uploded the video. Could even argue Google didnt do enough since he can still monetise his videos and so will not really feel it, personally think he should be banned for monetising his videos for a month or two to set an example.

However I dont think it makes him a racist/Nazi/alt-right/WS, just an idiot who had a lapse of judgement.

Not sure about that. People that are upset seem to conveniently ignore context just fine from what i'm seeing.

When I use phrases like "looks like" it tends to evoke the idea of an image. Must be another language lapse.

Disney & YT dumping him likely won't impact him much, but JK Rowling's reach on social media is pretty huge. I can see a bunch of tumblr/twitter memes coming out of this, and THAT is what will kill PewDiePie's channel/career.

He did know though, I never claimed otherwise. He did know it was a horrible message and wanted to see if it would get through anyone. It did and he was surprised. He could've made a passing comment about it, but instead aired the full thing, that was bad judgement on his part, as that is not good for anyone.

Don't come here with that shit, I'm not the only one calling you out for that.

Most of the Retweets and replys are answering how JK doesn't get it. The joke was shit and everyone knows that, but the ones who follow his videos know where the joke was headed.

This is like saying someone punching you and laughing is basically no different than a Jackie Chan movie. "I don't get it--they're both using violence for humor, stop being so sensitive!" The more "edgy" the humor the less lazy, more well-crafted it needs to be, for reasons that should be obvious to anyone.

No it isn't.
