NYT: Trump Campaign Aides Had Repeated Contacts With Russian Intelligence

Pence would have zero chance of being reelected due to the messy circumstances, and that's assuming he he doesn't end up getting attached to the Russia scandal.

Re-elected? I guess we're going on everyone in the administration being kicked out and having a new election? Has that even happened before? I can't imagine that work being put in.

If there's any justice the Supreme Court would rule it go to the popular vote winner and deem the election of Trump illegitimate. At this point it is nearly impossible to determine just how infested then GOP is, so it would be irresponsible to give any sitting member of the GOP presidency.

While Ryan is the likely candidate, in all honesty there needs to be some serious discussion about it because it's clear that a majority of the GOP leadership's judgment is suspect given the Trump fellatio

Nah let's burn him too. He in this. He knew and he looked the other fuckin' way. Last time I checked, that shit is a crime.

I wonder why CNN is so hesitant to talk about this

2 options.

1. Because it's a NYT scoop
2. Because there are no actual news. We knew Trump campaign under Manafort were talking to Russia. For this to gain traction, we need one more campaign staffer name to leak.

id say who needs House of Cards, this shit is amazing. But its kinda like action movies, its awesome to see shit get blown up and people shot, until you see it in real life, then its not so awesome.

They are getting there....but they don't have him yet though. Need a smoking gun.

Here's hoping it's found soon!

That's one way to start the second civil war.

So what happens if all this comes out and the Republicans simply ignore it and pretend it's not happening? Since they're the majority in Congress can't they just do nothing, or actively suppress investigations?

Don't think the president actually has any extra power over that. That's the supreme court and maybe congress, and neither of those things will be different with Trump in charge

Well, the GOP is in charge of everything. If he were to sign some oddball executive order it has the chance of passing.

Even though people on GAF are always expecting a impeachment, lets say that does happen. Wouldn't the GOP and Pence still be in charge? If so, you should look into Pence. Not like he is is pro life, lgbt, etc. Only win is the orange turd being removed. Mostly would be the same the same otherwise.

You are asking this as if we aren't aware of the fact.

It's simply dealing with the reality of our scenario.

I don't get the myopia in this thread

Yes if all this is true and collision occurred - by all means get them all out
I'm for it - I'd rather have someone in the White House that is presidential and professional

But everyone solely blaming the Russians?
If it wasn't for the democrats screwing over Bernie and all the other stuff that was uncovered this wouldn't even be a story

How can you not say Hilary's team is most to blame?

Good grief, dude.

People like yourself wonders why Republican/Trump supporters gets hated on so much.

I posted in another thread that it will be the combined force of the IC, the press and the judiciary that will save this country, another gafer posted the synergy between the three groups..the IC leaks to the press, the press reports on it and the judiciary prevents the WH from stamping it out

I get that this is a big deal, I just can't quite get my head round why this particular news story is such a big deal. I'm not in the US so that may be getting in the way, can someone explain as if you were explaining it to say... a 14 year old?

The line of succession is kind of fucked that only 2 people on that list are actually elected official beside the VP.

Everyone after the Speaker and Pres pro tempore are all Secretaries appointed by the President.

I mean if Pence was also caught up and impeached and then Ryan and Hatch didn't take the position it would fall to fucking Rex Tillerson and then Steve Mnuchin.

Rand Paul basically already said that too. It is on CNN.com on mobile so really can't find it as fast as normal.

I'd argue they're (mostly) bending over backward for Trump more because they're scared at this point that alienating him would really hurt their own chances for reelection rather than because they're also in bed with Russia. That and they think they can still use him to some extent

No provision for that in the constitution. We're stuck with the line-of-succession as is.

The best option here would be for Trump to stay on but be so paralyzed by scandal that he's unable to achieve anything. Kind of a John Quincy Adams situation where he was lame-ducked from the start, then thrashed in the election rematch of 1828.

Pence wanted funerals for aborted fetuses

He's much worse than Trump

A pro-life whacko versus a man who is suspected of colluding with Russians to influence the Presidential Election. A man whose signature policies are a wall to keep out Mexicans and a travel ban to keep out Muslims. A man whose solution to race relations in this country is to adopt stop and frisk as a national law enforcement policy. A President who flies off the handle on Twitter constantly when he's questioned or criticized. A man who has already embarrassed himself almost every time he's interacted with other world leaders. A man who has suggested he may or may not support our allies in their time of need. A man who wants to bring back torture as an intelligence gather tactic. Then look at his closest advisers, look at the men sliding Executive Orders under his pen.

So you could deal with Pence's gay therapy?

I would like to see someone produce some evidence of this. Because it's repeated ad nauseam and based on the searching I've done, it's wildly overstated based on a single, likely misconstrued, line in a bill he signed.

I am in no way defending Pence, as I hate this entire administration and I'd pay good money to be in the front row to watch them drop from the gallows if that happened. But I don't think there's actually evidence for this claim.

I'm still cautiously optimistic the GOP will do something about this and that US will protest about this.

But I'll take this Valentine Treat today.

the entire line of succession is fucked

I think we'd be okay when you get to Ryan. He's like the least problematic person on that list for me. Ryan isn't a conspiracy nut and is actually a competent politician. Not ideal but if you told me Paul Ryan was going to be President for the next 4 years, I'd smile and say Thank You.

The first move should be to get the fucking insane, dangerous stooge out of the nuke chair. He's an exersential threat that goes beyond policy disagreements.

Once that's done, the Dems can just stonewall any and everything and keep the illegitimate president story going. Being from a party that supported a Russian plant, it shouldn't be hard. Run on the midterms on it.

Yea, this concern trolling is ridiculous. Once the blood is in the water, the GOP is going to suffer massive losses. Just look at Flynn, the second he got fired, everyone senses weakness and is ready to pounce.

We can delegitimize an unelected president all day, especially with beating the Russian horse worse than Benghazi.

I'd argue they're (mostly) bending over backward for Trump more because they're scared at this point that alienating him would really hurt their own chances for reelection rather than because they're also in bed with Russia. That and they think they can still use him to some extent

Oh, I know the reason. Shit is still disgraceful.

Yeah, there's no way if this breaks bad that Pence gets to assume the seat. He knew. So he gets impeached too.

VPs can get impeached and removed just like Presidents do. And if the case is a treasonous one, he doesn't get to duck it, much less be rewarded with the Presidency.

It will fall to Ryan. But the question then would be whether the election itself is declared illegitimate.

PLEASE.

This election was already unprecedented in scope, let us get into re-election territory. WE need it!
