Weird, that's exactly what made me entirely disillusional with the left in general, Gaf included.

The people on the left I know at least, (Some very very involved with organizing events etc.) in real life aren't like that. For me to say OT GAF represents the left would be ridiculous. I think people are just doing what they do when they get scared. Lashing out. It's an uncertain time for a lot of Americans who hold our ideals for a better, more inclusive future high. I share that sentiment. I just want to see pragmatism injected. I think the statements from organizations like the ACLU recently, reflect better what the left is. A lot of prolific OT Gaffers, are more representative of an alt-left position I think. It's hard to make that distinction though anymore because well, GAF is a large part of my online presence. So it's something I see frequently and helps shape some of the nature of my reality.

This is a threadworthy discussion for Off Topic, but you would instantly be dogpiled into oblivion so it's probably not worth it. The Alt-Left is a very real thing.

...Man, that's such a sad statement for a forum that genuinely prides itself on intellectual discourse. To be honest, I just try to avoid political threads now entirely. GAF is still the best resource on the web for media, science, and technology discussion, however.

He has a problem, which is why Disney acted. Context is important but so is timing and intent and he has messed it up. That is the simple fact, alternative or otherwise.

I believe Jim Jeffries has a small bit about this and him being "caught" saying something vile as part of a larger longer joke and then people crucifying him for it. The h3h3 video is about this as well but I don't think its some magical "I told you so!" moment as it doesn't somehow negate the offensive joke and what poor taste it was in. It was a bad joke at a time when things are running hot over racism in any form, even unintentional bad humor. PDP should have probably known better considering the climate these days and people not taking it at all especially as a dude who is watched by a lot of kids.

It seems like it is more about money than it is anyone being offended or there being other problems. Poster then says 'Well, you're right but...' which usually leads to them complaining about his other aspects which are completely unrelated.
We reach a new page (if you're the 50 post type).
A new person comes in not reading the previous pages, only reads the first post/replies and calls pewdiepie something terrible.
The cycle repeats.

People are focusing on the anti-semitism part though. Just see all the articles about it as they try to list all instances what might be perceived as anti-semitism without posting the full context. That the intention is to smear PewDiePie and label him as a anti-semite is pretty clear.
Mind you, I agree with Disney dropping him. If you're employed by a multi-million dollar company you can't expect them to agree with the repeated use of nazi references or simbolism in the videos produced, no matter whatever context or intent there is behind it.

Disney has the right to remove their endorsement or sponsorship, we see this types of stuff happen all the time, very political. Then there's always someone fighting for "first amendment" or whatever. But people have the right to say what they want + companies have the right to cut sponsorships to statements that might lose them money.

In the end who is right and who is wrong, or is everyone just an ass hole?
