Turnip, I don't think your proportions are off much at all. Not as much as my motorcycle. If anything, maybe the head might be a smidge too big? But it might just be the hair and it's nothing that I noticed when I first looked at it.

Hello everyone! I've been contemplating contributing to this thread for quite some time, and I've finally decided to do so. I have been drawing all of my life (yet I still kind of suck lol) and my typical medium is pencil and paper, usually sketches. Feel free to give me any pointers or advice as I want to improve my artwork.

Also I love everyone's work in this thread too, you guys are SUPER talented!

Hey Tacorona, welcome! I would first suggest to resize your image so it's not so huge. 4k resolution is overkill and it makes it difficult for people to see your whole drawing on their screens. Or at the very least, put quote tags around your image.

My suggestion is to keep drawing. Draw a little bit everyday, even if you don't feel like it, and even if it's only for 15 minutes. And then post it in here. You'll see yourself get better after only a month.

Doodled about 20 minutes worth of spaceship designs this morning:

My bad, I'll definitely resize them to be more reasonable. Thanks!

Day 2

#...uh...8? 7? Cartoon-y practice.

A man and his hard-livin' cats.

I really like this one. The shine on the eyes and nose is exceptional, and the shadow dabs for the cheekbone area is really cool.

Franken Beasts, Where do you Find Them

This looks like something you could sell as a print for gazillions. Super cool.

Ha, I like this! It's a fun change and your style suits the minimalism. And I love the cats!

Thanks! Mistakes are bound to happen when people post pictures in which a part of their head is out of frame. Please don't blame the artists!

Day 2

No worries! Looking good, keep it up!

Quick sketchy crosspost from the Portrait Thread this morning:

Hey guys, great thread! Been loving the work in here, and wanted to give this a go. College student, I aspire to animate, and to help with that I've been meaning to practice drawing different things more consistently, and challenge myself to make something everyday even if the urge isn't quite there. :P Want to improve any way I can.

I do both traditional and digital stuff. Hope to stay the course!

Day 1

Just sketching up a redo caricature of myself.

I like it, it feels very Final Fantasy Tactics (except with noses).
Lol thanks.

Welcome, amigo! I think it's cool that you aspire to animate and I look forward to seeing more of your artwork, cause I love that caricature!

Day 4.

These are the main characters I created when I wanted to make some form of graphic novel several years ago.

Lol thanks.

Thanks brotha, and same to you! I'm enjoying your characters!

Day 2.

I don't know, I had nature on the brain today. :P

Hi everyone! I haven't posted in this thread in a while (I usually post in the Arts n Farts thread), but I have been drawing, pretty much daily.

Awesome to see some of you doing the daily challenge!

Here's some things I can post. Some SW and Final Fantasy fan art, and some random environment thumbnails.

I post a lot of in progress stuff on my Instagram if you want to check it out!

The colors on the Ahriman are lovely.

Cool to see all the new people in here... keep it up!

Yeah! It's awesome to see people showing up and posting and making this thread a little less "Tfritz and heavy liquid's sketchpalooza"

Day 5

Wanted to do something quick and simple since I'll be busy for the rest of the day. Shouldn't have outlined it, but at least I tried something new.

watching the progress of both of you gradually has been incredible. Amazing to see development so quickly and through so many stages.

started one night, finished this morning.

Done today in a couple hours I think. Had some new brushes I wanted to test out. And I really struggle with environments but they're really relaxing to work on. Hoping to finally focus on more original content this year.

Thanks! If anything, I feel like I've become a bit more comfortable with the tools. That and slowly figuring out what works and what doesn't. Which might be half the battle, I guess. It also took a while to get used to not being able to spend days on one sketch... just one "something" per day, good or bad. And hopefully learn from the bad.

I quite like both your pieces. Especially the shadows on the trees in the top one, and your leaves in the second. Great composition in both, they look like they could be out of the sketchbooks for Mulan or another animated film.

Day 6

MeO1BgF.jpg

Need to work on my wing details lol.

You're almost there! You just need to draw the bones or "fingers" that support the wings. Like this:

I think I may have skipped ahead a day or two, but oh well:

Then take a day just working on drawing wings! Because that's the beauty of the drawing a day thread - if you're gonna be drawing anyway, might as spend some of those days focusing on one or two areas you consider a weakness.

Yeah, if there's one great thing about this, it's forcing you to confront the tools at your disposal.

Ugh, missed 2 days. Great start. XD

Hey, but you're already making it up, so no harm done.
