Sure, it doesn't absolve him of anything.
thank you.
I'm not a PDP fan, lol. It's kinda fucked up you'd suggest someone from a country historically oppressed by Sweden to be a fan of a Swede.
lmao. yameroooo

I recently watched a video of his where he explained how he doesn't wanna focus on video game content anymore for the sake of it. I think he's tired of the attention, the pressures of being a YouTube personality, and is starting to lose it.
I'm beginning to think that being a full time YouTuber is potentially more damaging on your psyche than being a traditional celebrity. You are expected to be in front of a camera and engaging with an audience even more than Hollywood actors.
In the end what Forbes and WSJ is doing will just make millions of fans of Pewdiepie's more critical to media than they've been in the past. Which I guess is a good thing?

The only thing that is wrong is that he is a spoke person for Disney. I dont see why YouTube has canceled his show. Why is there a so big difference between comedy. I don't like PewDiePie's content but why do Anthony Jeselnek get his own show on Netflix for things that are so much harder while some jokes that are taken out of context are worthy of a Wall Street Journal article, a fucking WSJ article.
Why do we have to take political correctness into comedy. H3H3 said it best: "people who're getting offended for people who 'aren't offended."This shit get me triggered!
If the dude wanted to make some Jewish/Hitler jokes he should have made up an over the top Borat style personality to deliver them. That way there's a clear delineation between what he actually believes and whats a joke. Otherwise dark humor thats funny to your friends/small audience that knows you could be rightfully misinterpreted when your audience is 50 mil +.
Isn't clickbaiting/making a quick buck the whole point of his edgelord Death To Jews routine, and really the sum of his entire career of screaming over games? Or is he the True Artiste who is being misunderstood and exploited?

Also, like South Park taught us, if it's been more than 50 years since a bad event happened, it has now become funny.
Haven't read the whole thread and I slept through the history class in school, but what country may that be?a country historically oppressed by Sweden
Are you alleging that no Jewish people took offense?

Finland.Haven't read the whole thread and I slept through the history class in school, but what country may that be?
Of course i can't say that nobody took offense. But in the context of how he said it i don't see a problem with the joke. It's bad (for Disney) and i don't like how much the word "jew" has been used in comedy, but it can't be right for just somebody and not for others.
Also, like South Park taught us, if it's been more than 50 years since a bad event happened, it has now become funny.

You'll notice that South Park still runs on a major network and has no problem getting ad placement for new episodes, as well as reruns throughout the day.
So ask yourself: what's different about that, and this?
This is the cultural clash in comedy right now in a nutshell. It isn't about "political correctness" vs. "clean comedy" or something.Actual clean comics like Dan Nainan are 10x creepier than the most descriptive Louis C.K. pedophilia joke.
When your entire "joke" is simply saying something that you know makes people feel bad, with no satirical backbone, no actual joke, no purpose, what you're doing is functionally no different from saying the same thing like you mean it. And as Chan culture has so clearly taught us in the last few years, all you really do is provide cover for actual straight-up ideologues to say the exact same things, except they fucking mean it.
If the full context of your joke is "Death To Jews" because wow, you're not supposed to say that, you've simply done the verbal equivalent of taking your adult dick out on an elementary school bus. Oh, how shocking! There should not be a grown man taking his dick out in front of children! Ha ha ha ha! I can't believe he "went there"! Where are the SJWs now? Can you handle my political incorrectness? L M A O
Now, frankly, I don't give the slightest shit if you want to engage in this kind of vapidity. That's fine, it's a hell of a lot easier than saying something insightful or witty. What I resent is the idea that you want to be taken as seriously as the decent comedians and satirists of the world for doing the verbal equivalent of eating your own feces. No. If your joke is to say something that gets people mad, or reminds them of terrible things, or makes them feel less than human, they're probably going to get mad at you, not want to give you their money, not want to sponsor you, maybe even crack you one across the jaw.
Play in that end of the pool! You aren't entitled to respect for it.
You mean during the 16th-17th century or whatever when Sweden was huge? What has that got to do with anything or anyone related to Sweden today? No wait don't bother answering that, I'll go back a few pages and try to figure out what is happening here.Finland.

This statement just makes South Park look bad more than your point look good.
Many Finnish seem to have a grudge against Sweden and the Swedish, I've lived in Finland for a couple of months and it was pretty clear. (I'm not Swedish). You mean during the 16th-17th century or whatever when Sweden was huge? What has that got to do with anything or anyone related to Sweden today? He has had over 6 years or so to adapt to that life.I agree. Add to the fact that PDP actually started as nobody, poor with social and economic difficulties and never imagined he would blow up like he did. I suppose with personalities and celebrities, they are trained to tackle whatever pressure comes their way due to fame and money, but PDP just rose up exponentially and never had any experience of dealing with all the attention.
He just stop and take a long vacation for a while. Maybe that will do him good.
He is dropped from getting premium ads which directly affects his income, and has his show dropped which is also impacting him. I doubt he is happy about this.Hasn't affected his subscriber base one jot so I'd be surprised if he even cares. I think he's just trying to find where the boundaries of what humour is acceptable and I can see what he's tried to do in the video but ultimately it's not funny. I mean the guy made his name on rape jokes and 'edgy' humour, right?
He has had over 6 years or so to adapt to that life.
I always found his Jew jokes out of place, but then again he's had other bad jokes in the past revolving around rape and stuff.
Thing is, I think people are going too much into this. He's not a Nazi, and he's not an anti-semite. He's just got a very bad sense of humour, the type you'd avoid to bring with you anywhere publicly.
To me all this is just media clickbaiting and making a quick buck out of a public person's misstep.
Yes the Swedish oppression of the Swedish people by the Swedish people starting in the 13th century. There was no Finland until the 19th century. Times were rough, but there was no difference in the plights or rights between a farmer living outside of Uppsala from that of a farmer living outside of Turku.
I see this particular attempt of historical revisionism pop up from time to time, it's just a another gross part of the nationalist movement, very popular with supporters of the True Finns party.
Carry on.
When it's regular as a clockword it's not a misstep. He has no excuse. It's systematic hateful speech, and if does that to Jews, he must be doing it to other minorities or ethnic group. And he's making millions out of it.
I know that from my Finnish work buddies reports but I doubt that it has to do with Sweden oppressing Finland during the 16th century. I know the Finnish-Swedish people have a hard time these days though, can get attacked/insulted openly just for talking the wrong language (Swedish). But is the origin of the hate from when Sweden ruled over Finland? Seems farfetched. Maybe it's simply because of how nationalism has become more popular? Unfortunately it happens in all scandinavian countries today, rasism is increasing over the whole region, a nationalistic politic party is even the third biggest in Sweden today and will most likely be even bigger after the next election because of how badly the immigrant/refugees situation has been handled. Everything is a mess. Not that it has anything to do with PDPs dumb joke though. Many Finnish seem to have a grudge against Sweden and the Swedish, I've lived in Finland for a couple of months and it was pretty clear. During the reign of Christina, Queen of Sweden, a proclamation of 1646 called for the burning of houses of all those Finns who did not want to learn Swedish in the area that was later to be called Sweden Proper, west of the Gulf of Bothnia. Reading books written in Finnish led in some cases to imprisonment still in the 18th century
After witness Brexit and Trump winning the election, I wonder why I should empathize with people who is fine with anti-semitic joke just because the idol they worshiped make a mistake by with his gag.
Even PDP acknowledge he understand why others would be offended by it.
I think the question is, do people want Pewdie Pie labeled as an anti-Semite for these infractions, do they warrant it? Do they believe his punishment should be an absolute fall from fame? Is he beyond redemption for this? I have a hard time placing a label or punishment that some people absolutely deserve, on someone who made some stupid jokes..

How has WSJ/Rolfe Winkler taken it out of context?
Millions of people have watched a January 11 video by YouTubes biggest star that included two men laughing as they held a banner that read, Death to all Jews.
The man behind the video is Felix Kjellberg, a 27-year-old Swede known as PewDiePie, who has amassed 53 million subscribers. His success has brought him multimillion-dollar deals from YouTube and Walt Disney, which owns a firm that runs Mr. Kjellbergs business.
Since August, PewDiePie has posted nine videos that include anti-Semitic jokes or Nazi imagery, according to a review of his channel by The Wall Street Journal.
On Monday after the Journal contacted Disney about the videos, the entertainment giant said it was severing ties with Mr Kjellberg, who as PewDiePie rose to prominence via clips of himself playing videogames or performing skits and making crude jokes.
...........
PewDiePies account also took down three videos with a total of about 23 million views the Jan. 11 video, and ones from Jan. 17 and Jan. 22 after the Journals inquiries. In the Jan. 22 video, Mr. Kjellberg showed a man dressed as Jesus Christ saying, Hitler did absolutely nothing wrong.
Mr Kjellberg said in a video a few days later that the Jan. 11 clip was a joke that went too far. Alphabets Google, which owns YouTube, pulled ads that run on its videos from the Jan. 11 video within days of its posting, before it was taken down this past weekend. YouTube hasnt pulled any of the nine videos in question, though PewDiePies account took down three of them. Google hasnt removed ads from any of Mr. Kjellbergs other videos.
Mr Kjellberg didnt respond to requests for comment for this article. On Sunday, he wrote on Tumblr that he wanted clear some things up, specifically that he doesnt support any kind of hateful attitudes. Mr. Kjellberg wrote that he creates content for entertainment, not as political commentary, and understands these jokes were ultimately offensive.
The videos illustrate the risk for companies such as YouTube and Disney that, eager to reach young audiences, make deals with talent who may push boundaries on what is acceptable within the companys standards or basis social norms. By distributing the content to a wide audience, companies are vulnerable to criticism when a users words are deemed offensive. In Mr Kjellbergs case, a major neo-Nazi website has embraced his statements.
The video compilation WSJ has PDP reacting, explaining his shock that they'd "fiver guys" go through with it. What context did they remove?
They even asked him for comment and PDP demurred.
Context: Parody of Drama channels, comparing drama channels to nazis. He even photoshops Scarce's logo (a drama channel) into Hitler's armband. He's calling Drama Channels Nazis and characterising Trump supporters as Nazis too.
Context: This was after the fiver video. He was talking about how the indian dudes and the jesus dude were banned after his video. He was puzzled about the ban of the jesus dude: he didn't make the jesus dude say anything offensive in his video. He then checks the videos of the jesus dude and discovers that someone had made the jesus dude say the phrase "Hitler did nothing wrong", so discovering the actual reason for the ban of the jesus dude. He further clarifies that he wasn't the person that paid the Jesus dude to say that.
Context: Jokes about the press calling him a nazi, by stopping the video in a motion where he lowers his arm and you can freeze-frame to make it look like the nazi salute. The words "Nazi confirmed" appear on screen and sieg heil sound plays, to mock how people continously take him out of context to label him as nazi.
You'll notice that South Park still runs on a major network and has no problem getting ad placement for new episodes, as well as reruns throughout the day.
So ask yourself: what's different about that, and this?
