NYT: Trump Campaign Aides Had Repeated Contacts With Russian Intelligence

"The officials interviewed in recent weeks said that, so far, they had seen no evidence of such cooperation."

So what's with this part of the article?

Because again. Why are they even talking to Russia? Why did Conway and Pence say there was no contact with Russian officials? Why did Flynn lie about discussing sanctions and then only come clean when there was no other choice?

CNN claims they have other names. At the very least this warrants an investigation. It also shows the leeks will keep coming and this is just getting started.

Also brings up the question. Why did Comey feel the need to write a letter about Clintons emails and not this?

LOL!

Jesus fucking christ. It never ends.

Covering up mistakes from a campaign that ended over 3 months ago?
Sure thing... keep telling yourself that.
Wonder if we'll see this exact same excuse trotted out a year from now. I bet you we will.

This doesn't even make sense lmao. To think a POTUS has reached this level of incompetence and inadequacy and on top of that, publicly displaying it to the world... this is just unbelievable.
He's Eric Cartman. This is just how he rationalizes away anything against him as the fault of someone else.
He has no self-awareness.

Steve King, Republican, on CNN keeps insisting that there needs to be investigation into leaks and leakers. Keeps dodging and ignoring when pressured about if there should be investigation into Flynn and all surrounding issues that are now surfacing.

Edit: I need coffee asap, I keep getting leaked

Edit 2: "Clean up IC, we need purge leakers!"

I agree about the wealth link back to the Kremlin. But are we now saying any wealthy Russian interested in politics is practically a Russian government official? Or worse, an agent? Is Rex Tillerson a sleeper agent?

Well, his objectives are pretty clear, sanctions get in the way of making money for him and others. He would sell out the US to make a profit. Pro Russian, no but does he care either way, no.

Purge, huh?

...wait, so he's confirming then?

So has anything in the piss dossier been actually debunked at this point? Seems like more of it has been corroborated than not.

Piss tape is still an unknown...

@realDonaldTrump
Information is being illegally given to the failing @nytimes & @washingtonpost by the intelligence community (NSA and FBI?).Just like Russia

Wow NY Times and WaPo sure have been failing for a long time

They've been failing ever since Donny was born... According to Trump. World according to Trump.

Gotta love the GOP.... CNN interviewing a Congressman, who is more concerned about the leaks than he is about the potential collusion between team Trump and the Russians. What a shit show.

With the majority of GOP looking for any excuse they can find to ignore the facts, even if this shit hits the fan, will they actually do anything about it? Will something like this just get a bunch of people on Trump's team fired, or actually have consequences for Donald himself?

The Putin/Reagan image is used to remind others that officials talking to Russian aides does not mean those officials are aware of the real background of those individuals. What has happened here is the IC have examined the backgrounds and discovered the FSB links. It's not that different than people looking back at this image in hindsight.

It's a long reach to accuse Trump aides of knowingly colliding with Russian intelligence. Anyone who is suggesting that is being unreasonable.

Mr Souza says that a secret service officer told him the tourists were in fact "all KGB families."

And meanwhile these cunts trumpeted "WeekeeLeaks" as the fucking savior of truth during the election. Unreal they are still playing this with a straight face.

The lower decks are flooded and these fucking guys are still sunbathing on the top deck.

Edit: I just want to say this. I have missed this. It was so weird and cold time when Easy D didn't rant on Twitter for 5-6 days.
So which is it Donald? Fake news or illegally obtained info?

The POTUS accusing the intelligence community of conspiring against him. Wow.

He's not gonna last, is he.

He's already pissed off the intelligence community, he's only making them hate him even more.

Forget everything that's happened up until now and look at this with fresh eyes.

The President of the United States just publicly claimed two of his own agencies are illegally working against him.

This shit if fucking wild. Anyone downplaying it needs to come back to reality.

The "contact" has been known since the campaign. This is nothing new - there have been dozens of articles on this by the NYTimes. Significantly, none of the information they've gathered -- and that has been leaked to them -- has suggested or indicated that the Trump campaign knew that these Russians had close ties to the Kremlin** or that they were FSB.

What is obvious to me is that, Trump aides (few of which had any connections to Washington) relied on his web of business associates to garner support and expertise. Anyone familiar with Russian wealth knows a great deal is related, at least partly, to the Kremlin associates; Russian billionaires know, or knew, members of the Russian government. We see it to a lesser extent in the west with billionaires having relationships with senior administration officials (i.e. Richard Branson vacationing with Barack Obama).

It is likely that some of these Russian connections were intelligence officers, or at least were in contact with them. Can that give the appearance that Trump aides were colluding with Putin? Yes. Does it mean that they knowingly did so? No. As Paul Manafort said recently, "These people don't wear FSB badges."
I would agree with this as a level-headed take if it weren't for the rich context around all of this, from Manafort's cash ties to Kremlin politicking in Ukraine to Carter Page tinkering with the Republican platform to Roger Stone announcing WikiLeaks drops before they happen to Donald Trump still not releasing his tax returns despite a stinking cloud of suspicion over his business dealings.

At the very least, we need bipartisan investigations to determine whether or not the story is overblown. When the IC is screaming at the media to rake this guy, we should listen, even if the unilateral behavior of the IC Is a concern.

No wonder Blunt was trying to get ahead of this -- it is going to seriously dent the Republican party for years if they keep alienating the intelligence community.

Why haven't they taken his phone away? I don't understand why he stil thinks twitter outbursts are a good idea or why anyone on his staff isn't reeling him in

It's just fucking embarrassing

Now the intel community is going to just leak more stuff.
The impression I get now is that Trump's team WANTS that to happen. They want the leakers in the IC to identify themselves so they can be eliminated and replaced. All of this information that's coming out is valid but they have no intention on acting on any of it. They just want the remaining Sally Yates surrogates to identify themselves so these organizations can be cleansed and people can be replaced with sympathetic Trump loyalists who care nothing for the truth unless it's to further the aims of the Trump autocratic regime.

It's funny, the first two tweets say it's all a conspiracy and then that tweet confirms it's real info leaking out.

He was basically offline for 6-ish days. Tweets on his account were precanned stuff from staffers. Someone must have given him his phone back.

I give his administration 6 more weeks.

Dat GAF optimism. We are in a better place than we were prior to the inauguration, but I'm still not sure it will come to anything. Trump has rigged the game, and has the house advantage. It's going to come down to the GOP leaders finally turning on him, which I'm not sure they will.

Did he seriously just pretty much confirm the information is true? What a fucking idiot.

I suppose it won't matter though since no one in a position to actually punish him will actually do it. Party before country and all that jazz.
