Unreal Engine 4.15 update adds support for Nintendo Switch

Well duh Indies dont use ue4 that much its about Unity all around and i still see no support for Unity . What a joke. All third party games nearly have their own engines unlike lastgen. There are one handful games somehow decent on ue4(maybe less)

Please, some of you need to just stop. Take a break from GAF. This is turning into a contest for who can say the most ignorant, embarassingly uninformed statement

During its keynote At Unite 2016, Unity has officially announced support for the Nintendo Switch at launch.

Nintendo already confirmed that Unity would support the Switch last month, but now Unity Technologies officially announced Switch support themselves.

Like, is someone paying you to shit on Switch or something?
Did the Switch kill your dog?

You are beyond pathetic now.

I doubt they would do that. Nintendo's internal teams have very competent engInes like the Monolith Soft engine which would be better suited to RPGs.

Retro studios are competent enough to make their own game engines. Unreal makes sense for smaller developers. But bigger developers like EA (Frostbite) and Ubisoft use their own engines.

I mean we are already had or getting big games that used Unreal engine for this gen(SFV, KH3, FFVII RE, Gears R, Days Gone as so on). Also I like that you mentioned Retro as the default when talking about Metroid.

So I'm still a little confused about what this means. UE4 has had Switch support for a while (just see Snake Pass), does this update mean that anyone using UE4 can create a Switch build of their game?

Would such a build tell us anything about the Switch, or would it still need to be run on a devkit to get any idea of target specs?

rocketleagecis unreal engine right? i could be way off on that, i just thought i read it someshere and i really really want rocket league on saitch

Didn't certain indies say they made the most money on Nintendo platforms?
Supporting these engines will be great for indies.

The indies getting in on launch will get a nice payout too, I think. People are going to want to try everything on their new system and it's pretty starved for content in March, sans Zelda.

It isn't unheard of to port Unreal Engine 3 games to 4, unlikely for an indie game but it's happened. Didn't Batman Return to Arkham and Gears of War Ultimate run in Unreal Engine 4 (Batman isn't the best example)

Switch having nvidia guts and supporting standard APIs should make it fairly easy to get something like Rocket League up and running on the system. If RL doesn't get released for Switch it's not due to technical reasons, imo.

Rocket League makes so much sense for the platform, imagine playing it with split joy-cons on a plane trip.

RL is the type of game the Nintendo audiences jumps head over hills for, would be swell if a interviewer were to ask the developers on if they thought about it

I think they gave the typical "we have nothing to announce, but keep your fingers crossed" - type answer.

With how many franchise tie-ins Rocket League uses, if they brought over the game with a Mario Kart mode where you can shoot shells and stuff at other players or to influence the ball movement, that might work well.

I think RL is happening for sure....but since its a big deal now they are looking for extra incentive from Nintendo before releasing the game on Switch. Just like Minecraft didnt happen on WiiU before they could secure the exclusive Nintendo DLC:

Expect it be a e3 announcement if not earlier.

Add some F Zero themed cars and watch the dozens roll in.

Nice, I wonder about the scalability of ps4 games that could be ported to switch.

At a point the switch CPU can't keep up, but I wonder if the likes of BF1 would be possible on Switch with no AI modifications.

We don't know this for sure. If the Foxconn leak is correct the Switch CPU is actually a fair bit stronger than the PS4 CPU.

Snake Pass looks great compared to the PS4 version, we'll see how larger PS4 games scale down the line. We'll probably get more Steep footage soon.

watch it not get ports from 3rd parties even with this.

Its obviously Metroid
Imagine a Metroïd announcement at E3. With Zelda, Mario Kart 8 and Splatoon 2 already released, a strong buzz from multiplayer showcases, and hardware praise for various reasons. Switch would cement its appeal for good, with a big new Metroïd announcement.

Can Nintendo ignore it? :)

FTFY :)

Gears Ultimate is still UE3.
