Update on what Yosuke Saito said four months ago,

Saito has confirmed that the studio is considering bringing the title to the Xbox One platform

Recently, this is the answer he's given
"There are currently no plans to release on this platform. The main reason for this is that the Japanese
market for Xbox One is not strong, so the decision was made to focus on PlayStation 4 rather than to split our efforts across two platforms."

"we don't wanna focus on multiple platforms"

watch them release the PC version like one month after initial release, Dragon Quest Heroes style

They're most likely developing the game on PC and porting to PS4, so I wouldn't be too worried about the quote- we'll get a PC version by the end of the year, I'm sure.

If they were developing it on PC and then porting to PS4 then why would they announce the PC version a year after announcing the game for PS4 and why would they release the game for PC well after they release the PS4 version?

Just doesn't make any sense.

You've just announced that the game is coming to PC as well as PS4. How did that come about?

Yosuke Saito: Platinum Games are known in Japan as a great developer, but I think they might even be a little bit more popular in the West. I wanted this game to be more available for everyone worldwide. In Japan, not many people play video games on PC, but we've heard that there's many, many gamers who play on PC in the West. We always wanted to - we started planning for a PC version from the very start of the project.

we actually start creating our games now on high-spec PCs and then optimize for the different consoles we release on. Since we already thought about releasing on Steam from the get-go, we'd already built the game in such a way that it would play on PC.

Makes total sense but also a bit worrying that Japanese developers dont think they can make an impact in the western market via the xbox brand. I understand PS4 is the market leader and are also ahead in western markets, but still there are around 30 million xb1 in the western market. Phil needs to have some really good strategy going to Japan.

It isn't the size of the total market but rather the size of the potential audience a game like this can sell to. In the case of Xbox One, that would seemingly be a very small audience.

Those 30 million are unlikely to be interested in a niche japanese RPG like Nier. That audience is way more likely to own a PS4.

30 million Xbox One owners doesn't mean 30 million customers who will potentially buy a JRPG. It's a lot more nuanced than that, though strong marketshare is always a good thing.

People believe this. My goodness.

I doubt they'll work with microsoft directly as long as they have enough other contracts going, because I imagine having a product cancelled like that can be devastating to a small developer like Platinum.

However, to conflate that with "we'll never make an XBONE game again!" is also completely incorrect. If the person hiring them wants an XBone version to happen, it'll happen, of course.

It's a bummer that the XB1 isn't getting the game because of Japanese sales. I guess Square Enix isn't really interested in what it's going to do outside of Japan. Hopefully this means the PC version gets released sooner rather than later. With them being fairly silent about it, one does have to wonder.

no lies detected

PC is also not the strongest in JP, so i'm not sure if Xbox / Windows 10 Ecosystem would make any real difference in potential sales and reach.
If you want to play those type of games, you have to get a Ps4 nothing wrong with that.

Typical Henn/Egg problem.
No customer support and no developer support. and you can't blame either side to acknowledge that
