DeMarcus Cousins has been traded to the New Orleans Pelicans

I think this might be a trade that makes both teams worse. I don't like Cousins on the Pelicans, but the Kings got almost nothing back for him.
The Pelicans get the best Center in basketball

They lose almost nothing of substance

The Kings get a betamax and a busted VHS tape of Garbage Pail Kids

I still don't know why people outside of Oakland and Cleveland care about the NBA this season. Parity has gotten worse and worse due to these punk ass superstars teaming up.
My Rockets are a joy to watch; Harden + D’Antoni = fun and Eric Gordon is giving Curry a great fight for the whole 3pt sniper title. We're probably gonna choke in the playoffs, but for now I can dream~

Supposedly the rumor is that Brad didn't want DMC.
That was just speculation on a Zach Lowe podcast some months back. Though I'm sure Danny did his homework with IT around too on the pros and cons. Celtics currently have more to lose adding an unpredictable element like Cousins to the mix, sounded like no GM put up a godfather offer and if Vivek had eyes for Buddy what can ya do.

*rap airhorn*

Pick swapppppp!!

Trust the process.

That's the good thing out of this story. Kings tank rest of season and sixers can swap for the better pick.

The bad thing is that NO offered a first round pick for okafor and they couldn't come to terms with the sixers. Calangelo should be fired

It's more fun to watch than any other sport and it's still fun to watch a playoff run, even if the chances of making it all the way are slim. I'd rather have a lack of parity and a fantastic product vs. the illusion of parity and a mediocre product (NFL)

That's a good point. You've swayed me over.

I just have a lot of bitterness in my heart. I'm a Knicks fan :(

It was top 20 protected. Ie you are trading ohkafor away for nothing. The Kings got the top 3 protected clause

Nobody would do that that. That's a salary dump trade. Not a gathering assets trade

I am first on the "trade Jah" bandwagon, but I have to say a top-20 protected pick is pretty uninspiring. I don't blame Colangelo for waiting to see if he could suss out a better deal, and lo and behold, this miracle fell into his lap. At the end of the day, I would still trade Jah for a lottery protected pick anywhere that will take him, but it would be nice to get a physical player back in return.

I hate to say it, but if I were him I'd at least probe the Kings to see if they'd do Jah for Buddy, or some permutation that puts Jah on the Kings. That would be the ultimate coup, as he submarines their season into prime pick swap territory.

He would be perfect for his scheme so I really doubt that. The only thing that would make this annoy me less is if they asked IT about it and he said yeah dude's an asshole and they backed off.

There's absolutely no way IT said that Boogie's an asshole.

Such a pointless and lackluster trade. Would have been great if someone in the east picked him up to compete with the Cavs. But the Pelicans? Why? So now the Pelicans can get swept by the Warriors in the first round instead of just barely missing the playoffs?

Ah OK didn't know it was top 20 protected, although I wouldn't be against trading him for Buddy, but the longer he stays on the sixers the worse they will get in return. Top 20 protected is better than a 2nd he's going to be worth next year

So what are the other 25 teams in the league supposed to do? Not even try for the next 5 years because there are a couple of dominant teams? Just throw in the towel for the next decade?

Pelicans know they arent a huge market for FAs. They also know they have Anthony Davis for the long haul and need to figure out a way to get other superstars to come there and stay there to play there. They accomplished a large part of that goal for almost NOTHING. The shit they gave up shouldn't have been enough to get a decent player, certainly not good enough to get a guy like Boogie.

Seriously the Sixers got more back in a deal for -nothing- from the Kings than the Kings got back from the Pels for Cousins. Its insanity.

How in the hell is this going to work with Boogie and Anthony Davis down in the post? I'm not sure this is going to work. They both need the ball. Unless someone agrees to sacrifice - which I don't see happening.

"How do we make this work?" is a much better problem to have than "This is not working" which has been the case for the Pelicans for a while now. Maybe it doesn't work but you need some actual NBA talent to try to make it work and they have a lot more of that now than they did 24 hours ago.

Both teams worse? What?
Hield was finally starting to work for them and they just got another big man who isn't great defensively. Maybe he'll work for them but I don't think he pushes them over the hump and he might be more of a headache than he's worth. It's definitely a bigger loss for the Kings, though. That was a terrible trade for them.

i think bigs are the dubs kryptonite this is absolutely terrifying bruh

I'm not saying hes the same guy they were so desperate to ship out of town they gave up a 1st round pick they wish they had right now (and a swap) to do so but yeah.

Wow. Maybe the Pelicans have a chance of making the playoffs. Only 2.5GB, can be done with that ridiculous front court.

Will not be that hard because Davis can play on the perimeter.

Boogie has been shooting 35.4% on 4.9 3s a game. He's been averaging 4.9 assists per game.

These are their shot charts

AD has a mid-range game. Boogie has range, drives more to the basket, facilitates more.

Boogie can too, hell, he plays on the actual perimeter. It's been a weird season for many bigs.

Brook Lopez - 1.8/5.1 on 3s per game
Boogie - 1.7/4.9 on 3s per game
Marc Gasol 1.4/3.6 3s per game

When was there parity? Was it in the 80s when the Lakers and Celtics went to the Finals every year? Was it in the 90s when the Bulls won 6 titles? Was it the 00s when the Lakers won 5 times and the Spurs 4?

ESPNs explanation:
"General manager Dell Demps is on the hot seat with the team in danger of missing the playoffs in back-to-back seasons since Anthony Davis signed a contract extension. He prioritized getting a center so Davis could play more at power forward. The Pelicans were close on trading for Jahlil Okafor and were willing to trade a first-round pick for him, but they couldn't come to terms with Philadelphia. Cousins represents a gamble for sure, but the Pelicans were able to buy low, especially since they were able to not have to trade point guard Jrue Holiday in the deal. Holiday is a free agent after the season, but New Orleans has now assembled a star core that has potential to be part of a strong team."

They really just want to make the playoffs rather than not be in it.

DMC is shooting 35% from three on nearly 5 attempts a game. Davis has pretty good range from 15-18 feet. They can spread the floor and not get in each other's way on offense.

Yall do realize they can both spread the floor and play in the post right? That they can both pass and run the floor? That they both play good defense?

The Pelicans traded a sub 40% shooter and a career bust for one of the top 3 big men in the league, how could they be worse?

They need to trade one of their legion of bigs for just about anyone in the league with a consistent jumper and they're a good team.

There are a bunch of CP3 returning to NOLA jokes going around, but honestly, I don't think the Pelicans can sustain 3 max guys. Getting Holiday back will be tough enough.

Trade Ajinca with 2nd rounders for a salary dump, and stretch Asik, and then go overtime on looking for guards
