DeMarcus Cousins has been traded to the New Orleans Pelicans

"How do we make this work?" is a much better problem to have than "This is not working" which has been the case for the Pelicans for a while now. Maybe it doesn't work but you need some actual NBA talent to try to make it work and they have a lot more of that now than they did 24 hours ago.

Davis doesn't really post up. He's the roll guy in pick and roll sets, and has flexibility in where he can roll because he's such a good midrange shooter.

They're both great shooters, they don't need both to be posting.

Will not be that hard because Davis can play on the perimeter.

ESPNs explanation:
"General manager Dell Demps is on the hot seat with the team in danger of missing the playoffs in back-to-back seasons since Anthony Davis signed a contract extension. He prioritized getting a center so Davis could play more at power forward. The Pelicans were close on trading for Jahlil Okafor and were willing to trade a first-round pick for him, but they couldn't come to terms with Philadelphia. Cousins represents a gamble for sure, but the Pelicans were able to buy low, especially since they were able to not have to trade point guard Jrue Holiday in the deal. Holiday is a free agent after the season, but New Orleans has now assembled a star core that has potential to be part of a strong team."

They really just want to make the playoffs rather than not be in it.

DMC is shooting 35% from three on nearly 5 attempts a game. Davis has pretty good range from 15-18 feet. They can spread the floor and not get in each other's way on offense.
Cool. I don't watch the Pelicans at all and don't really see Anthony Davis play often since he left college. But it seems like there may be enough space for them to co-exist. We'll see though. I also tend to like good guard + big man combos over big man + big man combos.

I'll be watching a few Pelicans games now to see how they mesh in the second half.

There are a bunch of CP3 returning to NOLA jokes going around, but honestly, I don't think the Pelicans can sustain 3 max guys. Getting Holiday back will be tough enough.

Trade Ajinca with 2nd rounders for a salary dump, and stretch Asik, and then go overtime on looking for guards

they should just rent out cp3 for 2017-2018

boogie's contract isn't that bad

the problem defensively is that this is going to shift AD to guarding PFs full time, and away from the paint where he is a superior rim protector and DMC is not.

Congrats Kings fans, good thing David Stern nixed Chris Hansen's purchase of the team from the Maloofs.

I'd hate for y'all to be missing out on this bright future ^^

Yeah that is a problem.

One thing we might see is NOLA dealing with their trash bench by staggering Boogie and AD's minutes.

Boogie has played PF though, right? Can he not be the one to guard PF? Or would that not be ideal, at best, for small ball PFs?

I'm sure I'm wrong here, but isn't Jimmy Butler a better trade bait? I mean he has said he wants to play with the Cavaliers, so I don't see why there should be a problem there. Rajon and Wade are way past their prime and Butler wants to jump ship to Cavaliers, so why not trade Butler to the Cavs?

I think this might be a trade that makes both teams worse. I don't like Cousins on the Pelicans, but the Kings got almost nothing back for him.
lmaooooo

This is up there as one of the dumbest fucking trades of all time. Sold the best 5 in the league for peanuts. Boogie and AD (if healthy) are going to feast. The fuckingstupid meme is probably the most accurate I've seen online so far.

Boogie was gonna extend. He would've been far more valuable next season, and the Kings could actually properly tank after trading him

Butler wants to go to the Cavs what are you talking about??

He said if he wanted to play with one player more than any other, it would be Kyrie, as he was a big fan.

  1. Where has Butler stated he wants to play for the Cavs? He said Kyrie is his favorite player, but that is not the same as joining the Cavs.
  2. What could the Cavs give up to acquire Butler? They are by and large one of the least attractive trade partners for the Bulls. Teams with high draft picks and young assets are ideal trade partners for the Bulls.
  3. Maybe I'm lost, but what does this have to do with the Kings trading Boogie to the Pelicans?

I had just been wondering about the Bulls.

It will be interesting when teams like GS and HOU throw Green and Andersen at the them. Do they just let Davis chase whoever around the perimeter then dominate that small ball on the offensive end?

I can't wait they play HOU in three days then two more times before the playoffs hopefully they get bumped to National games.

the pick has protection?!!? You have the audacity to offer Buddy Fucking Hield and a draft pick for Demarcus Cousins AND ask for protection on the pick? And the kings said yes/!?

He said if he could play with anyone in the league it would be Kyrie. So while it's not necessarily that he said he wants to play for the Cavs, it's still more than just Kyrie is his favorite player.

Yeah, the only way the pick could possibly get better this year is if it gets thrown into the top three by the lottery.

Now, even if that happens the Pelicans are keeping it. lol

It will be interesting if this pushes the NBA towards big men again. Hopefully AD can keep Boogie calm.

It's too bad that's Boogie's reputation. I mean why not get fired up if you're playing on the Kings? What's the worst that happens, you do something dumb and get ejected and cost your team the game that they weren't going to win anyway?

See if he keeps his emotions in check when there's actually something on the line. Could go either way I guess.

When you have guys like AD and Cousins, the question is not who you can guard, but who can guard you.

Same as the Barnes for KD upgrade in GS, that lineup changes what other teams have to gameplan when they play you.

The ability to shoot and clean up by both bigs is unreal. This is what Joe Dumars tried with Dre, Moose, and Josh Brick and failed at horribly because none could shoot.

Ha, just reading how the 76ers benefited from the Cousins trade.

Apparently the fired GM Hinkie's perpetual tanking strategy is still paying off.

-Philly has the right to swap SAC 1st rd pick in 2017 (if it falls outside of the 11-30 range)

-Phiily owns SAC 1st rd pick in 2019

-Philly owns the more favorable 2nd rd pick between SAC and MIL in 2019

Great time to rebuild Vlade, right when you're just in reach of your first playoff appearance in a decade.

"Character matters"

EDIT: Shit, forgot about DUI Lawson and Darren "Domestic Violence" Collison. What great "characters".

Someone on either this thread or on reddit thread had said that Boogie didn't have behavioural issue when Karl Malone(??) was coach.

So if that's true, it may have been coaching staff that made Boogie act up.

Boogie has had behavioral issues for a long time. He's a coddled, entitled super star. The environment in Sacramento might have contributed to that, or it might be more Boogie. We are about to find out the answer.

Mike Malone and Boogie was good that year up to that point, surprised it took so long for him to go.

I think the issue with Cousins is less about entitlement or that he wants to be coddled (though he certainly has been at times in his life, and that may factor into how he sees things) and more that he reacts very negatively to any perceived unfairness or slight. There is a reason that he loved Malone, who by all accounts does not coddle players, and there is a reason he reacted so negatively to George Karl's attempts ad head games and media manipulation.

He's never going to have the temperament of Kawhi, but the reason things have gone so negatively has been how chaotic and terrible Sacramento's coaching and front office have been.

The Zach Lowe pod was interesting. Apparently he bullied the crap out of Stauskas. Doesn't surprise me, dude seems like he's just a bully, especially with some of his confrontations with the media.

Kings reddit is killing me today

Oh and, I think Cousins will cause more harm than good in Pelicans.

Can't see him sharing the spotlight with AD.

The real hero here is Hinkie who foresaw King fuckery and took their treasure chest

Like how you don't mention that Cousins and Stauskas made up towards the end because Boogie realized he was an ass
