As soon as the Horizon thread opened, it was inevitable.

Let them freak out, while the rest of us actually play the games :P

Well to ease people's pain I've been hearing superb impressions from the game. Can't say, but the game will get the score it deserves.

Hard work pays off people remember that

Sorry I missed the context to your post. Are you talking about BotW and people who are reviewing it?

I'm not concerned about reviews. The systems they have in this game seem very well fleshed out in terms of variety. It's a Nintendo game, so polish is probably through the roof. The presentation seems pretty damn strong, everything in the game world seems to react as it should to most stimuli and the cutscenes seem very well directed. There seems to be a lot of QoL design in making sure everything that could be tedious wasn't so. There's some very unique elements to the game (such as the Stasis Rune) and pretty much everything taken from other games has some sort of twist to it to make it interesting. There's a great deal of room for creativity and the systems of the game encourage using that creativity it seems and that's a big plus for reviewers. The AI is seemingly aggressive but not unpredictable so there's a way to plan around how they work even if they can throw some wrenches into your plans.

All of this combines to make an experience that is likely highly appealing to most reviewers. New experiences potentially out the wazoo, no interruptions to those experiences and a stylized sheen to tie it all together. Much like how Blizzard games succeed.

*tries to control breathing*

Like I said earlier this game will be 90 or above. Again, no big deal, but I find it funny that people would doubt Nintendo on the Legend of Zelda. They get the benefit of the doubt and giving what lots of fans have wanted from the series.

I never, ever, ever say something as absurd as this. Truly - this is gross exaggeration and hype.

But in my bones, I truly feel that this game has potential to be one of the universal greatest games of all time, in the same divine legacy as titles like Tetris, OoT, Mario 64, Chrono Trigger, FFVII, Halo, Planescape, etc, etc.

I really think that the graphics are going to be one of the only thing that holds the title back from damn near perfect scores across the board.

I have allowed the last big trailer to envelop me in hype, but I won't saying anything close to that until I actually play the game lol

Alright guys, I know we are all hyped, but let's not get carried away. I am not saying that you shouldn't be expecting a good game, but please don't set yourself up for disappointment.
i hope you are right

Oh?

Well it definitely shows with the little we've all seen thus far. I'm not worried about scores myself. I really can't wait for this, I even have next Thursday off to fully prepare for the long night of playing this on the Switch :)

I'm honestly worried they changed the formula of Zelda too much, it really sounds like dungeons are not going to be the epic experiences of the past with themed dungeon items and that will make me very sad.

My only big fear is that I truly do hope there's a whole other side of the game we haven't even seen yet. I know we've been told over and over the trailers and demos barely scratch the surface - but I'm hopeful there's something HUGE we're completely unaware of right now.

It kind of reminds me of MGSV. For the longest time we didn't really see a bunch of crazy story trailers or bosses or twists or environments or indoor locations... and we all just kind of expected a huge reveal half way through the actual game... and it never came.

Similar concern here as well. As much as I adore ALBW, I did not like the item/dungeon structure. Made items not feel as special.

To be fair, Kojima was never able to develop more of the game. So it's possible there was more to be had and we just never got it.

You guys are out of your dang skulls if you think Zelda is not going to get stellar reviews. Me? I'm more interested in finding out if it will dethrone The Witcher 3 as the game of the decade :p

I hope the previews on 2/24 aren't too spoilery. I heard on Reddit that Bill Trinnen claimed the embargo lifts March 2nd because there are so many story spoilers that reviewers will encounter, and that he thought even the plateau demo at E3 had too many spoilers.

I saw the new enemy from yesterday's trailer on my Facebook feed even after I had intentionally skipped watching the trailer. I hope I don't have to avoid the internet after the 24th...

If that's the case, they have failed, since it should feel like a 3D version of the original Zelda game.

Having replayed the original Legend of Zelda very recently (for the first time in a long time) and then the BotW demo, I can see similar vibes. Even on the Great Plateau, having seen it many times in demos, I got the prompt to awaken the tower but in terms of exploring it felt very open. Like in LOZ, I found some arrows and was thinking "wow, this early in the game!" and then I found some fire arrows!

Embargo is fucking tight so you shouldn't expect anything to leak before the review date. Or, not from major outlet anyway.

I don't think NintendoForce could even tweet the small snip they did.

That's never happened with a mainline Zelda dog. (Except Spirit Tracks lol).

Yeah I guess. I just think if they review it as an open world game and draw comparisions to different games of recent years it might suffer a bit. That and if there's a lot of technical problems I'm sure that will show in scores.

Without getting spoilery, please (I'm on blackout), what in general makes it seem like the dungeons won't be as epic?

I feel like BOTW itself will be a very divisive game, and may score around 85 in metacritic. But, I also think it will pave the way for the evolution that the Zelda series need.

Aren't the previews March 23?

They've said the trailers/demos barely scratch the surface? I mean, I know they said it about the Great Plateau at E3 but I didn't realize they said it about more recent footage.

Then, hopefully, there will be a lot of areas/gameplay abilities in the final game that aren't in the trailers. Part of the reason I'm not watching recent trailers is to have as much new-to-me content as possible in the game but for there to be even more is heartening. I see no reason to doubt them, though. The difference with MGSV as other(s) said above is that the development was potentially cut significantly short vs. planned content.

I'm hoping that if the main review embargo is due to story spoilers, that they won't let previewers discuss much by way of story spoilers on 2/24 . But, I plan to not read the previews and at this point if you're concerned about knowing any more story/significant content spoilers than you already know, would definitely suggest you not read them either just in case. (Including not reading the thread about them as it's probably unrealistic to expect people will use spoiler tags in every instance you'd want for them to.) The game will only be one week out at that point and surely well worth being as unspoiled as possible on. :)

The verdict will obviously remain out, as it were, until I've played through the game, but I will say I truly like what I've seen of it so far. I'm particularly pleased to see the breaks from so many Zelda series conventions.

Aren't the previews March 23?

I think you mean February, and the general Switch previews are February 23rd but the Zelda previews are February 24th as far as I'm aware.

I've been trying to avoid Zelda threads in general here but I still managed to get spoiled on my Facebook :(

So I'm just a bit concerned about what will be all over the internet after the previews but hopefully press outlets don't share too many spoilers then!
