Embargo on Nintendo Switch console/games previews lift on February 23th / March 1st

Yeah I guess. I just think if they review it as an open world game and draw comparisions to different games of recent years it might suffer a bit. That and if there's a lot of technical problems I'm sure that will show in scores.

Or they could do their job and review it for what is it, and not what it isn't. When I go to buy a Zelda game I'm buying a Zelda game, not wondering how it compares to Just Cause or Assassin's Creed. If I read a review of a movie I want that movie reviewed.

My only big fear is that I truly do hope there's a whole other side of the game we haven't even seen yet. I know we've been told over and over the trailers and demos barely scratch the surface - but I'm hopeful there's something HUGE we're completely unaware of right now.

It kind of reminds me of MGSV. For the longest time we didn't really see a bunch of crazy story trailers or bosses or twists or environments or indoor locations... and we all just kind of expected a huge reveal half way through the actual game... and it never came.

I am secretly hoping for time travel to the world of Hyrule 100 years ago. Or that the memories that Link unlock are not just cutscenes, but you actually get to play through the events that took place 100 years ago in fragments.

I never, ever, ever say something as absurd as this. Truly - this is gross exaggeration and hype.

But in my bones, I truly feel that this game has potential to be one of the universal greatest games of all time, in the same divine legacy as titles like Tetris, OoT, Mario 64, Chrono Trigger, FFVII, Halo, Planescape, etc, etc.

I really think that the graphics are going to be one of the only thing that holds the title back from damn near perfect scores across the board.
I actually second this. This game is going to be special. I know it. You know it. We all know it!

If non-themed dungeons end up being a thing I'm not too bothered by it. The original Zelda didn't have themed dungeons and they're all fun. You could also beat that entire game without even using the sword, so I think that's what Nintendo is going for this time around.

Creativity on the user's end is key. (I'm sure the game itself is very creative though)

I think you mean February, and the general Switch previews are February 23rd but the Zelda previews are February 24th as far as I'm aware.

I've been trying to avoid Zelda threads in general here but I still managed to get spoiled on my Facebook :(

So I'm just a bit concerned about what will be all over the internet after the previews but hopefully press outlets don't share too many spoilers then!

Lol yeah I meant February. -.-'

Any word on whether Giantbomb will be doing a live stream for a few hours to show off the hardware and some of the games?

Going by rumors, impressions and speculation, the dungeons are themed while the mini-dungeons (shrines) are not, though some shrines deal with certain physics elements. Though of course they're altering Zelda's conventions so what you might think as themed may not be how they play it out.

I hear ya. Sorry to hear about your getting spoiled at all, I've heard about a few things more than I wanted to also unfortunately. I would say stay off anywhere online you could get spoiled (such as FB) starting Friday. Even GAF maybe. Is that too extreme? In the past at times some people change their avs to spoilery info as soon as they see it. Or spoil in unrelated threads.

takriel, I'm nearly as excited for someone like to get to play this as I am to play it myself. I've been seeing your building excitement for years here so it's heartening to see the game finally come out!

From Gerstmann's tumblr:

Anonymous asked:I assume you are, but is GB doing a switch launch livestream? I mean, I know there's only gonna be like ten games on it at launch but I'd still like to see everyone's reactions and takeaways for the shit.

I assume we are, too! But everything’s up in the air at the moment. The timing is all weird with it being GDC week and all, but we’ll see how it all comes together.

Asking here because of course I won't go into the actual thread: What's the reaction to the new screenshots? Do they look good?

The "New Screenshots for... [SPOILER WARNING]" thread, should still be on the front page.

Nothing is a spoiler in that thread, aside from a pic of the boss that GameInformer showed off a couple of days ago. There is however a new pic of you simply being inside one of the huts, but I wouldn't say that's a spoiler either, because nothing about it particularly stands out. I like the pics myself, but I've long accepted that it just looks better when you're actually playing lol

They do look better than normal though

Ah, thanks. I was worried there would be some stuff from the latest trailer. I'll go have a peek.

Pics compressed by imgur and blowned from 900p to 1080p. They do look good (some of them at least, compression is awful), but they're hardly representative of the actual image quality of the game.

Looks like a dated wii u game

In general, it is significantly less common for games to score above 93 on average than it was in the 00's. That is all I am saying. I think Uncharted 4 is the only game to even average 94.

Well besides all of the various ports of Grand Theft Auto V it looks like Metal Gear Solid V is the only game to break 94 this gen.

I don't think this is true. MGSV is at 95 on XBO, where it only has 10 reviews. On its most reviewed platform, the PS4, it has 93 with 86 reviews.

The screenshot thread is why I'm a tad nervous about review scores. Technical aspects such as graphics and maybe framerate are going to seriously knock it down I think.

Don't be nervous about review scores unless your employer gives you performance based bonus.

Nintendo games (and this one in particular) look much, much better in motion than they do in screenshots. It's been that case for a very long time. I don't think reviewers will judge the visuals based on still screens.

I want the box art in poster size SO. BAD.

When?? Why can't I buy it? Hell is there a high-res version of the image out there I can turn into a poster myself??

Not this same image, however my local bookstore has had BOTW posters for sale for at least a month or two now. I think it was the poster of Link climbing the mountain.

Well I'm not actually nervous, I'm not that silly, just in a sense that I don't entirely think they'll be as high as anticipated.

If the worst thing they can say about the game is that it doesn't look as nice as they'd like, then shit, that sounds great to me...

Yeah Amazon has several but I specifically want the box art. It's beautiful and I want to frame it like a movie poster.

Biggest problem for me was that the dungeons were too short and too easy.

I love short dungeons. I usually just play 1-2 hours at a time, and I hate coming back to an unfinished Zelda-dungeon. My mind just can't deal with backtracking stuff from a few nights before

Technical aspects will be an issue for some reviewers, but not most, unless the game has severe performance problems. I know reviewers are harsher this generation, so it's not a perfect comparison, but Super Mario Galaxy 2 came out in a year when 360 and PS3 were delivering vastly superior games from a technical perspective (games like God of War 3 and Red Dead Redemption had just released, for example) and it has a Meta score of 97. If BotW delivers an amazing, unique gameplay experience, it's going to do just fine. You also have to take into account that most journalists will likely be pretty floored that they're able to play this type of game on a portable device (all outlets are reviewing this on Switch).

So the joycons are really tiny. Like to the point for being unusable. I got to see a Switch today and the joycons felt great attached to the screen but I couldn't hold a single one comfortably and even with the grip it was way too narrow. A third party would make a killing with a cheap grip that's wider.

Weird. There are a few press-people with huge hands (Jose Otero from IGN for one) who've said the joycons felt small, but fine for short gaming spurts.

It is the Wii U pro controller.

Lol, .. thought so. Actually, looking around that image.. there are some interesting things going on. I'm not sure if that person is buying things to flip them or whatever, but they have several repeat items besides BoTW. Interesting. Also.. I've not seen someone protective plastic inside of a cup like that before.

That's a trash bin on the floor...

That's a trash can hahahaha :p

Edit: Whoops don't mean to dog pile!
