AMD Ryzen CPUs will launch by March 3

I wonder how they exceeded their original 40% IPC target so much.

Not just by a little but by a huge amount? A few months back they were saying 'more than 40%'.

In short: $US499 for the 1800X, $399 for the 1800 and $329 for the Ryzen 7 1700. Some more info here (disclaimer: I wrote it).

There's also a bunch more benchmarks that were available during the tech day, but those were under embargo until the CPU launches.

Ha, finally something concrete... Hopefully

Just over 52% was the end result, re. their IPC target.

Even more Cinebench, meh. Nice die shot though:

If you can get a i5 6600k for under $160 and you're pretty strapped for cash but want to upgrade, that may still be a viable option (1600x is rumored to be around $260 retail, 6core/12 thread).
I'd still wait until after benchmarks come out to see where the performance falls unless you need to build a computer right now. I'm not sure about AMD motherboard prices, but I think I recall AMD boards being slightly cheaper as well.

yep. chances are good that intel will do some price cutting.

quick question before everyone wakes up and posts plenty of other info (and the pre-orders begin)

why would I want to buy a 1700X if I could just OC the 1700 to the same clock speeds? possible OC overhead on the X version?

and yes, we still don't really know if there's anything more to the X than just the automatic overclock, right?

Higher base clocks on the 1700X, so OC potential is higher.

oh wow, I totally overlooked the base clock, I just assumed the 100mhz higher turbo and the auto-OC thingie

Paul's Hardware talked about other benchmarks:

-1800X vs 6900K in Sniper Elite 4 with dual RX 480's. 1800X system was 5-10 FPS faster. No other details though. They demoed this in 4K so it was obviously 100% GPU bound.
-1700 (non-X) vs 7700K in Handbrake.

It's in the title of their article =) 2nd of March is the sales start so the benchmarks NDA naturally ends on the same day as anyone can just buy and benchmark one. I expect leaks between now and then though.

Yeah I just hoped maybe the NDA ended before launch or at their event at GDC or something, at least they already have the chip so launch day it's just push a button and reviews go out.

Since no one answered my question yesterday I thought I'd ask you, is the R5 X1600 coming out at the same time as the 1700,1800 or is it later in the month, months from now?

6 cores and 4 cores are coming at a later date, this much was known for some time now. 2nd of March is 1700, 1700X and 1800X.

No. Only Ryzen 7 will be launch in March 2.

Ryzen 7 1800X: 8C/16T, 3.6 GHz base, 4.0 GHz turbo, 95W, $499
Ryzen 7 1700X: 8C/16T, 3.4 GHz base, 3.8 GHz turbo, 95W, $399
Ryzen 7 1700: 8C/16T, 3.0 GHz base, 3.7 GHz turbo, $329

There is no roadmap for Ryzen 5 and Ryzen 3 yet but I guess it will reach the market few months after... May is a good bet.

Guess I'll wait then. Also quick question could I push the r7 1700 to 4ghz with it's TDP at 65?

Or will that limit my over clock?

This is unconfirmed but it also seems that the 1700 will only come with the 95W Wraith cooler and the 1700x comes with the full 140W Wraith. That might be important for some people, but for those with 3rd party coolers it matters less.

Mostly what I'm waiting news on the most. Want to see how good the 1700 will OC with a decent cooler.

Also boy am I glad I didn't get a 5820K for 400+€ some months ago :D

Didn't you upgrade to Kaby recently? The i5-750 was getting to long in the tooth? Or were you not too bothered about Ryzen?

Yeah, i5 750 to 7600k for $230. Not phased, didn't personally see myself spending over $300 for CPU, especially since my gtx 970 becomes the bottleneck now and is maybe due for an upgrade. Still interested to see what Ryzen's answer for the $200~ bracket is.

Anandtech said:
AMD pointed out that the new 8-core silicon design runs 4.8 billion transistors and features 200m of wiring.
That number is quite a bit more that one would expect. An 8 core Haswell-E is almost half that for example. I wonder what's going on here.

Where was this known? They had a huge info dump leak way back that showed all the different sku's.

This information leaked back in January I think. The whole lineup leak was inaccurate in places but it didn't show any release dates anyway.

Intel response, courtesy of PCPerspective:

An official Intel spokesman did respond to today's AMD news with the following:

“We take any competition seriously but as we’ve learned, consumers usually take a ‘wait and see’ approach on performance claims for untested products. 7th Gen Intel® Core™ delivers the best experiences, and with 8th Gen Intel Core and new technologies like Intel® Optane™ memory coming soon, Intel will not stop raising the bar.”

We don't know yet... there is little info or leaks to be fair.

I guess from this week up to March 2nd we will get a lot of info about these processors.

I'm trying to pre order

FWDcBF6.gif

OMG, this is so accurate!

I mostly do design, video, animation and everything graphic related apart from gaming so I'm now saving money to build a new PC. My FX almost died (god knows why) and I'm holding it at 2 GHz and 4 cores until I can get a new CPU to get in shape again, 1700 looks to be the best option for me since I don't like doing OC because of the risk of breaking it

So the Asus prime b350 board is only $99 according to pcper - awesome. Looks like I might be able to go a little cheaper on the Mobo and get a 1700X instead of a 1700.

Wow, nice job AMD! Is a "welcome back to the party" celebration warranted? I guess we'll find out for sure in the next week or so. Still, the early signs are very, very positive.
