Nintendo Switch Previews are coming in

It's really weird how some people just don't get it that some people find the lack of activity log, Netflix, YT etc. as deal-breakers. People have their own interests, get over it.

I find the lack of activity log, Netflix and YT as deal-breaker for me. Don't understand why? Too bad.

I totally get those omissions being disappointments and worth complaining about, but I honestly wonder why they're full-on deal-breakers for you. But it's your money, so whatever.

That's nice, I doubt the Switch will have the same quality of materials as an S7 Edge.

Also, google "s7 edge screen scratches" -- I just did and there are tons of results with many complaints about screen scratches, even in the first 24 hours of ownership. You don't have a scratch until the day that you do, and THAT is the day that you wish you'd spent a few bucks for a screen protector.

Nope. I'm not putting a cheap plastic layer on my phone's screen. My iPhone has gone without it for well over a year now and the screen is pristine. If it did scratch I still wouldn't really care much. I care more about my phone looking and feeling cheap because of some protector covering it, honestly.

Truly mega fail launch from what I read on NeoGAF so far, I believe it's all true without having even to read the previews.

No friends included, how am I going to play that 1-2-3 Switch game. Oh man, only AAA game at launch is Zelda? It reminds me of Tetris for the Game Boy and Sonic for Genesis. Really tough times ahead. The Pro controller is a negative too .. no headphone jack on a similarly priced controller to DS4 or Xbone? It has way more features but what's the point without a headphone jack! Do Nintendo think they are Apple and can justify the price of the controller without a headphone jack!

Don't get me started anymore - I thought I could finally ditch my mobile and iPad for good but this dam thing doesn't have YouTube or a browser? Man! I didn't include any games in my pre-order as I just wanted to surf the net on a console, something I dreadfully wanted to do on my Vita as well. Now I have to get Zelda and game on a game console 24/7 and complete it in 3 days. I will have practically nothing to do after that!

This is just a horrible launch!

Terrible post. I hate when people try to dismiss any and all criticism of a gadget. Like, the headphone jack thing for instance. First of all, the Pro controller DOESN'T have more features than the DS4. But second, you are equating every feature to a "dealbreaker" situation. Lack of a headphone jack is terrible, but nobody is saying that the controller is bad and overpriced just because of the lack of a headphone jack. It does, however, further make the controller feel overpriced.

You don't have to defend the system to this extent.

No actually it really comes down to the holiday season.

This isn't a presidency.

I don't agree with this. While holidays are important, the system needs to be showing a sign of life and appeal during normal months. Look at the 3DS, they dropped the price because of this exact issue. Even then the system never fully recovered. If a piece of hardware can't sell well on a month to month basis, sales spikes at holidays or big releases are not going to save it.

No VC at launch is ridiculous. There's no justification for it. How much time and how may resources has Nintendo poured into this Parental Controls smartphone app, etc, and yet there's simply no possible way they could have 2 or 3 NES games ready for day one?

There's no justification. I really thought Nintendo would learn from the terrible launch of the Wii U and 3DS. They appear to have learned very little.

If you don't "have" to have Zelda, there's no reason to buy a Switch. Especially if you have a Wii U. Nintendo is not prioritizing getting Wii U owners to upgrade to the Switch. There's no VC, no transfer system announced, nothing. Just a small handful of games, half of which are on Wii U.

I don't get it.

Look more closely. Most of what's popping out is bezel. The little bit of actual screen is such a small sliver that even a small banner ad might be hard to squeeze in.

I was thinking of something along the lines of a notification light:

I still don't get how to create a Nintendo Account in a foreign region. I'm trying to do it on the JP sign up page but it keeps giving me American time zones.

Yeah honestly, other people can use them to their hearts content but I hate the look and feel of screen protectors. Tempered glass ones are even worse.

Metroid uses face buttons for firing, though. Even Prime 3 has the fire button on A by default.
Doesn't mean it couldn't change. Idk man, having analog triggers would definitely make the controller more flexible and easier for devs to port games to the console. Every little thing counts.

c'mon!

if there was just 2 o 3 nes games day one, you will be complaining anyways

i rather have tame take their time on their emulator, because apparently the wii u one was crap

Because those are my interests. Simple as that. I love checking out my playtime, I love doing it on WIi U, 3DS, Xbone and Steam. I don't like watching Netflix or YT on my phone (Galaxy S6 Edge), only big screen and I don't have a tablet nor am I willing to take my school laptop with me. So Netflix and YT on Switch would be fantastic. Also, Zelda is the only interesting thing during launch and I already have a Wii U, so no need for a Switch until christmas, hopefulyl YT, Netflix and activity log will be there then.

I find the lack of activity log, Netflix and YT as deal-breaker for me. Don't understand why? Too bad.

If it helps an activity log will be accessible via the parental controls app at the very least. And we have confirmation that some media apps will be coming at some point (due to the setting for "disabling sleep mode during media playback").

You've obviously never used a good quality screen protector. "Looking and feeling cheap" is complete BS.

Also, you just went from "wouldn't really care much" about scratches on your screen, to caring about how your phone looks because of a screen protector. Seems like you do care... or you don't care... not sure which.

The S7 Edge feels horribly cheap, so I'd certainly hope that the Switch is at least as good.

I just find it odd that those features were a bigger system seller to you than Zelda. It's not like we suddenly found out that game is on two platforms. Did you actually cancel your pre-order over this?

I'm not disagreeing with you on the general principle of their inclusion, but even on the Gamecube, Metroid Prime used nothing from the analog triggers other than a simple "pressed down" command. There are better examples of games from Nintendo that have a better argument for their inclusion.

And yet there is TONS of evidence that you are wrong. MANY people with a vast variety of devices have had scratches. And slight sensitivity problems -- use quality protectors. I've never had any such problems. If you do, then you bought a crappy brand.

But if your luck ever does run out, and you do get scratch(es), you will wish you'd spent a few extra bucks.

No, if it ever, unlikely, gets to the point where the screen becomes so bad as to negatively affect it's use I will buy another - or more likely the case, I will buy an improved one because it will be obsolete.

If my phones don't scratch, things I keep in my pocket bare day in and day out for years, use while I'm walking around, there is nearly zero chance I am going to damage the screen of something that will much more rarely leave the house and when it does is not going to be in a pocket, nor being pulled out of said pocket 300 times a day for a quick look.

To be fair, given the fuckery with the 3DS's awful design scratching the shit out of the 3D screen, I wouldn't be surprised if the Switch dock ends up trashing the screen.

These Pro Controller price apologists are reminding me of the $599 PS3 shills.

"But it has BLU-RAY! Don't you understand the value of that? It has Cell! It has card readers! It has Wi-Fi! It should cost a thousand dollars! How can anyone say it's too expensive?"

Argue all you want, but accessory prices are high. Yes, there's a lot of tech in there. And yes, they've been creeping higher for years. And yes, Nintendo's not the only guilty party (but they're clearly bumping it up a notch).

None of that changes the fact that $70 is a lot for a controller.

I never pre-ordered, but I was thinking about it until the news about Netflix and YT.

Life is odd sometimes.

A $70 controller is a bit different than a $600 console. I paid $60 for a DS4 (probably could grab one cheaper now). $70 is fine . It's a bit overpriced, but it's not PS3-levels of overpriced.

I'm a Wii U owner. Nintendo has given me very little, if any, incentive to want to upgrade to their new system. What is my incentive? To play Zelda in 900p instead of 720p?

This is supposed to be their new home gaming system. Show me the VC plans, tell me about the upgrade program and how I can transfer or re-purchase all my Wii U VC games at a discount. They have shown nothing. This has turned into a joke.

3DS and Wii U had very thin launch window lineups. Switch is barely above those at this point. Very disappointing.

Retail on PS4 and Xbox One controllers are 65 dollars.

What a load of crap, only a nintendo fan would spin that as a positive.
And get the fuck out of here with that fanboy crap. It isn't strictly negative. From a gameplay implementation viewpoint, analog does provide a much larger range of uses. From a mechanical/hardware point of view, digital is more reliable and responsive. Instead of a deadzone in analog triggers, you only have the actuation pressure for the button. This is only from my experience, but on the numerous DS3, 360, and X1 controllers I've had, the analog triggers were first to deteriorate in functionality. (X1 is still the best controller ever besides the dpad tho)
I've played a lot of Wii U games. I can't think of a single one that would have been made worse by having the triggers be analog.
And I can't think of a single Wii U game I've played that would benefit from analog triggers. Although I didn't play any racing games other than Mario Kart and I don't believe that series ever made use of analog triggers.

There may be more benefits people can glean out of analog triggers, but it is not strictly 100% negative for not having them.

I care about my phone looking as it was designed. No case. No protector. Served me well throughout my last 4 iPhones.

Hence, i'd care a lot more about some ugly screenprotector covering my screen than a scratch ever will.
Especially so seeing the screens of modern high-end smartphones are very scratch resistant in the first place.

But seriously, this is wildly off-topic. You do you.

I hope someone shows off how the bluetooth headphone support works. I've got two pairs of LG Tone's that I would love to use with my Switch (they work great with my Vita).

I'm using the screen protector that comes with the official case from the moment I unbox it.

I only worry for dead pixels.

I don't think I'll even undock it that much.

It's just $5 more expensive, and it's not even the most expensive 1st party controller out there. It's not far off in terms of value, unlike the $599 PS3 compared to Wii/360.

Haven't seen this mentioned but it seemed pretty interesting. Source is the AMA on the NintendoSwitch sub-reddit.

Q: "Have you tried connecting it to a PC? Does it show up as a device?"

A: "The joy-cons do, and I managed to very simply hook them up to OpenEmu on my mac, so I played a bit of Super Mario World on the left one on its side.

Results: Super Mario World is not designed to be played with an analogue stick."

I would imagine then the Pro Controller should work with little hassle.

I did. Didn't get the N64 until about 2000.

Yeah you had Mario 64 and Pilot wings (sept 29). By Christmas you had, Mortal Kombat triology, Killer Instinct Gold, Wave Race 64, Star wars: Shadows of the Empire, Cruisn' USA, and Wayne Gretzky's 3D Hockey....

And to top it off i don't think the 3rd game came out until Halloween. so 1 full month with only 2 games lol.

To be honest. The Switch's Launch isn't SUPER BAD, but it's lacking. They are launching with 11 titles, 4 retail, 4 that are new releases (or expansions to be fair), with 4 more games coming in the month, 3 brand new, and one with a new, timed console exclusive content (afterbirth+).

That's 15 games in march. 6 are new, 2 have times exclusive expansions, and 7 ports.

I wouldn't call it Horrible, but it's not amazing either.

There's a difference between understanding the justification of the price, and defending it. I understand there's a lot of shit in there and that Nintendo's not going to sell at cost or at a loss. That doesn't mean I like it, though.

And for a while wasn't the PS3 the cheapest BluRay player you could get? Maybe that was just Sony fans trying to defend the price but once it dropped from $599 I remember a ton of people advocating getting a PS3 over stand-alone BluRay players because they were cheaper and since both PS3 and BluRay were by Sony, it meant that any updates to the format would be pushed to PS3 quickly.

Switch will have a far better first year than Wii U.

It's not like you won't eventually be able to get the Pro Controller for a cheaper price as well though. I doubt you could find a DS4 or an Xbox One controller for 42£ at launch, and that's without counting that with the One you technically need to buy the Play & Charge Kit or at least rechargeable batteries.

To be fair, given the fuckery with the 3DS's awful design scratching the shit out of the 3D screen, I wouldn't be surprised if the Switch dock ends up trashing the screen.

The dock actually has spacers inside that touch the bezel to prevent the screen making contact with the dock.

Retail on PS4 and Xbox One controllers are 65 dollars.

Nobody is actually charging MSRP though or at the very least there are a ton of well known established players like Best Buy, Walmart, Target, Amazon ect... that are selling controllers for under 50 bucks.

I don't think it's make or break, but it's not just the bucks more either.

Also sure the Switch controller will go on sale, but that doesn't help at launch.

What time are Zelda previews going up?

Probably around the same time. 9 am est

So far we have heard some tid bits that the game runs better than demos with some slight frame rate issues. Another publication said that it is everything we have wanted and more. And yesterday a French publication said that we have only seen 1% of the game.
