Nintendo Switch Previews are coming in

Guys, has anyone found out any japanese version Switch preview, I just wanted to confirm that you can also change languages.

Thank you!!

Bumpy, this thread moves fast. Would be nice to see a confirmation, as I have a pre-order on Amazon JP, but I don't know if I should cancel it haha.

What are the chances servers won't be up on launch day and I won't even be able to download zelda?

The kinda funny guys seem to hate the switch but now they have frightened me by saying there is a chance this happens...

Wait, i didn't mean that now it's 30fps locked all the time. But if the guy who made the engadget preview tried both the 12S and the 1.0.0 version, and he said that frame rate is much better in the newest build, it's reasonable to assume that frame drops happen far less.

I don't think there's going to be a D1 patch, or that the game will have flawless performances, but that bit certainly implied that the frame rate is good now.

ah ok then yes. It does run great, but it definitely still has framerate dips

IR light source to use as a pointer anchor point like a sensor bar?

I expect it's just a nicely sized gap to allow easy changing of the game cards without the dock getting in the way.

At first I though it was something fancy too, but I'm more inclined to believe it's simple ergonomics.

Nobody is actually charging MSRP though or at the very least there are a ton of well known established players like Best Buy, Walmart, Target, Amazon ect... that are selling controllers for under 50 bucks.

I don't think it's make or break, but it's not just the bucks more either.

Also sure the Switch controller will go on sale, but that doesn't help at launch.

Yeah. $65 -> $70 = "bumping it up a notch".

Also worth noting, $65 is MSRP, not the actually selling price. I've never seen one for over $60, even back near launch when I bought extras of both.

Accessory prices are out of control. Everyone's definitely recognized that it's an area where they can gouge the customers. Console prices have held fairly well over the years - even with all that tech packed in that didn't used to be there - but accessory prices have gone nuts. And any retailer can tell you, that's where they're "allowed" to make some money - the margins on consoles and games are terrible, but they're pretty good on accessories.

Just two generations ago, controllers were $20-$30 MSRP. I still have boxed Gamecube controllers and Dual Shock 2s that I bought as spares for $20 each. Not on sale. That was just their price, late that generation.

Like many others have pointed out, I was referring to MSRP. While you can readily get controllers for 40-ish dollars NOW, THREE YEARS in, you could not get them for much below MSRP that first year.

Show me an online retailer receipt of getting a controller for 40-50 in the first 6 months of either PS4 or Xbox One.

They will be slow, thats for sure but I doubt they will be down.

I actually had tempered expectations for Zelda for a long time but people seem to be bursting at the seams to talk about it.

Maybe they really nailed open-world Zelda.

Here's the thing about Switch:

I need that Zelda.

Between the portability, the killer app launch title and the solid first party output during the launch year, I've got a feeling that I'm going to get more enjoyment out of my first year with Switch, than with any gaming platform in a long time.

It would be crazy as gamer not ro have zelda at launch. The biggest game of the century is just a must have. Let's hooe other developers take a note and upgrade their next games too.

The first 100 days of the Switch maybe an indicator if this sinks or swims....

I doubt we'll see any sort of serious push for this device from Nintendo until the Holidays. I think they wanted to start to build some hype and get it in the hands of the enthusiasts but wont target the mass-population until fall.

For better or worse, we're the beta testers.

0 chances, we know of download only titles day1. Just today we got the confermation for Shovel Knight day1.

If you have any time can you (or anyone else reviewing it) try outputting from the switch to the tv at 720p (there should be an option in the settings)?
There is (like third hand) stuff going around italian forums that if you do that the framerate is stable, but it makes little sense, shouldnt the switch just render at 900p and downscale it to 720p after?

I mean this isn't just a console. It's a handheld and a tablet. If they do it right it could compete in the tablet market.

I'm liking the general buzz in these teases so far., but how opinion seems to be swaying tomorrow will be the real indicator as to whether the game will be great or not. I can't wait.

What do you mean tomorrow? I thought Zelda embargo was up Mar 1, which is next week.

Has Nintendo said if they're planning to use that sliver of screen that's poking up out of the dock for notifications or is that just to give you a grip to pull the device out?

I think the dock is that way as a design solution to a couple of user experience problems. Because the Switch peeks out from the dock you can easily see whether or not the picture has been handed over to the TV. This would help a good bit with troubleshooting.

Second I the fact that the screen peeks out a bit makes it super obvious to a first time how the whole thing works. The first time you look at it, you know that a bit comes out and you know exactly how to do it. Similarly, I think they went for a two tone approach with the Joycons because it makes it visually clear what parts are detachable.

The Switch is pretty complicated with a bunch of moving parts, so anything Nintendo can do to help people immediately grok how it works is a priority for them.

I think that's also why in most promotional images of the Switch you always see a hand interacting with it, underscoring the idea that the hardware is transformable.

I think it's a pretty good example of how smart design can communicate a product's nature to users.

Zelda previews are up tomorrow, and whilst we won't get a Metacritic score they'll give us a pretty good indication as to what different sites might think of it.

I'm buying a Pro Controller just for the extra USB C Cable cable tbh

Not being honest but I currently have 0 of those so it's nice.

I switched over to Verizon since they offer unlimited plans again and finally upgraded my old Nexus 5 to a Google Pixel. Didn't realize the phone used USB-C, so the plus side is I now have extra wall charges and car charger.
