Nintendo Switch Previews are coming in

I saw the battery life of the switch on BotW was 2.5 hours. is that normal? my perception even though I bought it.. is that there are a lot of challenges.. Nintendo definitely does not have the wind at their back with the Switch.

One site reported that.

Gamespot reported 3 hours, at default settings, which is also what Nintendo claimed.

There are also multiple outlets that got 3 hours. Maybe they used different settings?

Quantity. I'm not saying they spent hours with those games, hell no. But if they move through Switch games with a similar clip, the stream will be a third as long as the Wii-U one.

Finally, we get to see someone stream Mass Effect and FIFA!

They play the entire launch lineup. That's kind of their thing. See how the games run and all.

Outlets are reporting between 2.5 and 3.5, depending on settings. The Switch auto-adjusts screen brightness which will change those times based on the light level in the room.

No one really does in the console space anymore. Sony caught the fire of gamers, but that tide ebbs and flows. Switch isn't 100% console though, so that's a hedge for them.

2.5-3 hours is what's being reported, and that's about what you'd expect. That's around what the 3DS was, and these games are much more demanding + battery tech hasn't seen big improvements in recent years

If I still owned a Wii U and I wasn't interested in the DLC at all I'd play Zelda on Wii U. Otherwise: Just sell the damn thing and all its games to finance the Switch purchase. Do you really want to have the Wii U until the Holidays to play the Zelda DLC? Really?

Some guy on Twitch almost broke Zelda NDA by launching the game thinking he was allowed to show up to the title screen. He stopped in when Link was waking up. He did a live unboxing.

Risky business.

Previewers have been getting around 3 hours of play time out of Zelda on average.

That's in line with Nintendo saying that Zelda would drain the battery in about 3 hours.

So, yes, that's expected.

This preview is hype: http://www.forbes.com/sites/erikkai...-is-a-technological-work-of-art/#113e6832777b

Nintendo's upcoming video game console is so impeccably crafted, it gives both the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One S a run for their money. This is a gadget with sex appeal, and the first video game console to achieve what Apple achieved with the iPad. Making tech sexy is no small feat, and it's this achievement alone which has the potential to do what the Wii U couldn't: Appeal to a broad consumer base that goes beyond traditional gamers and Nintendo fans.

Nintendo has taken all of its gaming chops and coupled them with a design straight out of the Apple playbook. The combination is something truly magical. The Switch may not have much on it just yet---I've only used it to play The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild so far---but the hardware itself is beautiful to look at, to hold, to listen to. It's a work of techno-art, and I'm more excited by it than I was by any of the VR headsets that landed in 2016.
Now reading the Time one.

I would be shocked if GameStop didn't have ample copies in store.
Yeah, Amazon and Gamestop only stopped taking preorders for the Switch version last week. My guess is they were concerned they couldn't fulfill all online preorders if they continued taking them. You should easily be able to walk into GameStop or Bestbuy and find one.

What does it matter? There are still a couple Wii U games I haven't gotten to play yet, why would the DLC matter if I play it on Wiii U or Switch? All for a slight resolution bump? No thanks.

I've already learned the harsh reality of what happens when I own too many games (Luv you steam) so only having Zelda for awhile is not a bad deal for me.
You are right on with this. Having only one or two games to focus on for the foreseeable future is a blessing in disguise for me. It will probably take me several months to get through Zelda anyway, so it will be nice to not have a huge backlog staring me in the face the whole time (as long as I can ignore my Steam/Wii U/Xbox One backlogs).

I don't really agree. I put quality over quantity. Mario 64 lasted months for me.

"Quality over quantity" was the N64 motto. I wanted to believe. But when I'd hit 100% completion on both Mario 64 and Pilotwings, Wave Race wasn't out yet. So I was glad to have a Playstation. And that happened over and over throughout the generation.

The truth is, enough quantity guarantees quality. I'd certainly rather have one great game at launch, but the N64 and Gamecube got killed even though I'd argue they had the very best games of their generations.

If there was an award for shitposting in Nintendo threads he would win by a country mile.

I'm looking forward to the GB stream.

Shitposting? Do you even know what that word is supposed to mean?
All I said is that GB's launch-day stream will be rather short compared to the Wii-U one. I came to that conclusion by comparing the launch line-ups of the two consoles.

That's freaking it. If you want to debate me on how GB will handle it then go right ahead, but i'm not wrong in that there's less content to stream on day one. It's not meant to be a personal attack.

Also, just a head's up, self-plugs are against the TOS.
Woops, my bad. I've been linking my blog here forever, but I guess this is different. Removed.

There really isn't.
Most of the games on the list will get played for 10-15 minutes seeing as they are ports of games available elsewhere and they'll likely spend a bit more time on Zelda and 1,2,Switch.

I mean, even the Wii-U had games like Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty, Darksiders, Mass Effect, Batman, FIFA, NBA, all that kind of stuff. I guess we'll see come March.

I can see them doing bomberman for bit, a little Fast RMX, and Spectre of Torment. the others i agree on, unless they do world of goo (and maybe the two tomorrow corp games, i don't know their control interface) to show how the touch, traditional and motion function all work with the games.

if you got everything maxed out, yeah. over 3 hours is default.

When will the Zelda preview thread be made?

Article I linked above says 2 hours and 50 mins with max brightness on airplane mode. Take that how you will.
Hmm so if all data connections are shut down you can crank up brightness and get about the same time. At least that's how I"m reading that, but I wondering about airplane mode off and brightness turned up.

Does anyone know how saves work? If I start playing Zelda on a card and switch to digital, will I be able to continue with my save, or are they written to the cards?

Between this and how seamlessly Switch can transition between "docked" and "portable" modes, Nintendo really nailed it! It'll be an absolute blessing to have a console where going physical doesn't mean I need to plan ahead by a few hours.

Saves are thankfully on the system itself or an SD card. No need to worry.

Just watching the Digital Foundry video, which was pretty decent.

They got out a power bank though to show it working and it reminded me that you won't be able to charge it when using the kickstand :/

Believe it or not some people don't sell their gaming hardware immediately after software support dries up for it.
